The entire scene of Gwen Stacy’s death still gives me chills. The near lack of music, the web forming a hand trying desperately to catch up to Gwen, the loud crack when hitting the pavement, and Peter bawling his eyes out. It’s sad to say but that scene is the highlight of the film for me. So beautiful yet so haunting. It’s one of the best death scenes in a comic book movie for sure. Glad you enjoyed this movie! It isn’t the best movie but there’s a lot of heart in it. Looking forward to your next reaction! Have a great day 😊

It breaks my heart, especially Seb's genuine reaction to it. Someone shoulda warned him Gwen's whole claim to fame (and why she doesn't exist in a lot of other Spider-man media) is her death. ASM2 made a lot of mistakes, but I always thought they did justice to the iconic Death of Gwen Stacy scene.
@EmphaticNod
@EmphaticNod 3 жыл бұрын
@A Fucking Bird It's sort of confusing as different stories have retconned who was "first" over the years. Gwen and MJ were around at roughly the same time in the comics. They sort of competed for Peter's affections for a while, with him eventually choosing Gwen to be his steady girlfriend over MJ. At the time, MJ wasn't looking for commitment, and Peter had a little more in common with Gwen. After her death, MJ (who was friends with Gwen) became a slightly more serious character and she and Peter grew a lot closer as a result, which _eventually_ led them into the loving relationship we see in the movies. In some ways, the MJ/Pete relationship that we know wouldn't exist without the Death of Gwen Stacy.
@EmphaticNod
@EmphaticNod 3 жыл бұрын
@A Fucking Bird Yeah, she's actually pretty interesting, both as a figure in Spider-man's life and as a character whose death had such an impact on comic book history (story helped usher in the Bronze Age of comics). If you ever want to read about her, Spider-Man: Blue is a really good, self-contained story that serves as a brilliant snapshot of who Gwen was and what she meant to both Peter and MJ. It also really helps establish her as a _person_ outside of her death.

I'm a bit mixed on this one, I liked it more than the first one but I also have a pretty hard time watching it.. I don't really like Harry in this, Goblin is very meh (even bad I'd say) but I really like Electro and everything about him, the backstory, the character, his development etc.. Andrew is amazing in the movie, the suit looks great, his chemistry with Emma Stone is also great, a lot of good stuff, great jokes.. all of them! But yeah, the rythm of the movie is weird, there's way too many montages, also some very weird song choice (but I really love 'My Enemy' track for Electro, it's fantastic), his parents' backstory is meh.. I don't find it very exciting, interesting or even really useful for that matter.. So.. I get why people like this film and why they don't, I think I like maybe half of it.. something like that....

Honestly I'd just cut the "Parker Genetics" thing out of his dad's video. We already know why the cross-species genetics was a risk thanks to what happened to Dr. Connors in the first movie. All that gene thing really does is make the audience question what's happening because of the Green Goblin disease and what's because of the Parker genes, which isn't where their focus should be. A few extra lines of dialogue could fix the problem you mentioned though. They should have had Peter mention to Gwen that Harry is drinking too much and acting a bit irrationally, so he's afraid if he gives him the blood he might do something stupid like injecting it right into his vein. Also he could mention all the corruption inside Oscorp and say he can't risk them stealing the blood and using it for evil, which we learn later in the film he'd have been very justified in fearing. On Harry's end, he could confess that he's been getting worse for a long time and the disease is killing him much faster than it did his father, which would explain why he's suddenly so desperate for a cure and why he doesn't think he has much more time at such a young age after his father lived a somewhat normal lifespan.

Electro in this film reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix's Joker. This is my personal favorite Spider Man series. However i was spoiled in the theaters watching this because i knew in the comics that Gwen dies. And judging by the first movie i knew they would take it in a dark direction. Comics fans were going crazy on if they would do it or not. Tbh i think this is why the movie got bad reviews by some. Western audience's weren't ready for that dark narrative with Spider Man. I remember being in the theater with my GF and looking around at happy families with children, thinking they were coming to see a more lighter Spider Man like Tobey. Boy were they surprised. They were shocked by the movie & all the kids in theater cried & walked out crying lol. I remember a mother walking out saying "that movie was so depressing" it's funny now tho in 2021, if this movie came out it might be worshipped like Logan. I personally think this movie was ahead of it's time, yes it has flaws but we get to not only see the expert Spidey fight, but we also get to see a realistic, down to earth New York Spider Man & the most accurate Spider Man sense of humor & costume. And the web slinging is so dewicious!

Gwen's death is the biggest death after Uncle Ben's in Spider-Man Comics
@pazz
@pazz 2 жыл бұрын
In the comics, Gwen was Peter's first love interest, but was not really liked by a lot of the comic readers apparently. So the writers killed her off, which actually secured her legacy and impact on spider-man as a character. and now she's mostly loved by fans! She has shown up in the comics again a few times, most notably in an arc called "The Clone Saga" and now her popularity has been revitalized with Emma Stone's portrayal in these films and by the comic character "Spider Gwen", a spider-woman from an alternate reality where Gwen got bit by the spider and Peter became the Lizard and died (essentially becoming her version of Uncle Ben). I've always thought Gwen was a more compelling character then MJ in all mediums, which just makes her death (in the comics and film) all the more tragic.

I love how Spiderman was such a game changer from the start. Gwen died in the comic too, almost exactly the same way. At that time it was crazy to have a major character, especially the love interest, die. It pushed some more mature themes.

It's been largely thought that the scene of Peter finding the secret subway lab should come first, thus giving a reason why he says no to Harry's request for blood. But how they set it up here, it just looks like there's no explanation, just a flat out no.

Fun Fact 2: after the first TASM movie’s composer, James Horner refused the chance to compose this score (he read the script, and said: It’s a piece of…), so Marc Webb asked Hans Zimmer, whose wanted the first time, but that time he was busy with The Dark Knight Rises’ music. Webb wanted for Electro a dubstep theme, which after Skrillex wanted to retired. Zimmer liked the idea and found a Baroque aria, from the 16. Century. Webb didn’t get it the first time, but this was the base of Electro’s theme, which one mixed Zimmer’s other collaborators (Steve Mazzarro, Johnny Marr, Junkie XL, Pharrell Williams) ideas, including the “Itsy-Bitsy Spider”, and Pharrel Williams’ chanting, which represents Max’s thoughts. Here the lyrics: Cant Ignore the Paranoia. Something Slipping. Mind Distracting, Agony Inside Of Me. My Pulse Is Racing Mental Torture, Self Destroyer. I’m dying. I’m dying. I’m dying. He lied to me He shot at me He hates on me He lied to me He shot at me He hates on me He’s using me Fragility Electricity Afraid of me He’s dead to me He lied to me He shot at me He hates on me He’s using me He’s dead to me That Spider-Man He is my enemy!!! They lied to me They shot at me They hate on me They’re using me Afraid of me They’re dead to me They lied to me They shot at me They hate on me They’re dead to me And now theyre all my enemy!!!

If they *do* bring Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man back in the Sonyverse like rumours hv been saying, I wonder if they'll bring Gwen back too, i.e. as a variant (maybe even as Spider-Gwen). If not, they'll probably hv him move on w/ MJ, but they could acc explore a relationship w/ Felicia Hardy's Black Cat tbh (which I think would suit Andrew's Spider-Man more than Tom's).

So in the comics Gwen Stacy was Peter's first girlfriend. Just like how me se in the movies, they were truly in love. In the comics, Gwen actually went to England but came back because she had to be together with Peter. It was basically a relationship where they would have naturally gotten married. Comic fans at the time didn't like Gwen as much as Mary Jane. They thought Gwen was just too good, too perfect of a person and MJ seemed interesting so the writers killed her off. The death scene in the comics is actually pretty similar but different. Gwen was falling and Peter actually caught her with the web far from the ground but the whiplash from the sudden stop broke her neck. The death of Gwen Stacy is significant as that started the Bronze age of comics where they started to become grittier and darker. In the previous Silver age of comics, main/important characters didn't die and Superheroes never failed.

I'll never forget seeing this movie in theatres when I was 12. When Gwen's death happened, you could hear audible gasps from all around the theatre. And then it was dead silent with the exception of some crying. It was SO shocking. Nobody saw that coming. It was one of the first movie deaths I'd ever seen that really got to me. That scene was burned into my brain for a LONG time. The chemistry between Peter and Gwen was next level. Definitely one of the best relationships I've seen on film. Such a sad death.

I like this version of Spider-Man for a bunch of reasons, but there is one important difference that breaks away from the original lore. In this one only Peter can be Spider-Man if anyone else who doesn’t have his genes gets bit then we see how it goes wrong. But it turns the character of Peter Parker into a “special boy” with an inherited destiny, rather than the original which was about the idea that anyone could have been Spider-Man and the only reason we have the hero we do is because a good man with the right guidance (Ben and May) got bit. In this one is was more a question of wether the “chosen one” would fall down the good path or evil path until his wake-up call from Captain Stacey.

I love your comment so much, I never thought about it this way. The thing why so many people relate to Spider-Man is because he was meant to be anyone. Never realized they went with the whole “ chosen one” thing.

there was always meant to be a third film with andrew as spidey but it never happened because sony fired andrew. the reasoning why is a little complicated and was surrounded by rumors for a long time. the second film didnt do well at the box office(maybe it was a case of "too many villains" like spiderman 3). there were scenes and entire plot points cut from this movie by sony and that upset mark webb and andrew(spidey meeting and being friends with MJ being a big one). andrew was very publically vocal about wanting spidey to be bi like he is in the comics. Stan Lee himself at the time was very much against making spiderman queer. it was later revealed that there were contracts requiring that spidey be portrayed as a straight white male in these movies. Marvel studios had been pushing for spidey to join the mcu since 2012 but couldnt yet reach an agreement with Sony, who own the rights to spidey. Sony servers were hacked in 2014 revealing an email that gives what is meant to be the official reason andrew was fired. there was a gala in brazil in 2014 where the third film would be announced that andrew was contactually obligated to attend but had decided not to attend allegedly because of all the creative differences within production of both prior films. regardless of reasoning for why, he went against contract and was let go.

Hey Seb great reaction!! I think this series is probably my fav over the original trilogy, mostly because of Andrew and Emma. There wasn’t a 3rd because the response to the movie was really bad. Many thought it had too many villains and plot lines setting up the next film. So Sony got really hesitant about everything they had planned and pretty much cancelled everything Spiderman and 2 years later entered into the sharing agreement with Marvel to reboot Spiderman. It’s a shame really as now people are watching these movies years later and actually enjoying them, and it would’ve been really great setup for all the future movies. With No Way Home coming out later this year, it’s possible that these movies can continue what was already started.

What's crazy is that people supposedly complained about too many villains in Spider-Man 3 and the Amazing Spider-Man 2 but are excited about SIX possible villains being in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will probably be the Sinister 6.....UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Yet another Spider-Man movie where Tom Holland will be carried by someone else...SMH!! I just hope to see Tobey and Andrew as Spider-Man.
@A_T88
@A_T88 3 жыл бұрын
@@lirpa2300 yep exactly. It’s was never about there being “too many villains” it’s always about how good is the story to make them all fit and work. Poor story or acting, poor movie. Venom in Raimi’s SM3, was terrible and Harry, while established was written poorly also. In ASM2, the only thing that could’ve been better was Harry and developing him more. The Rhino has always been a thug for hire and Electro was well developed( although goofy sometimes).
