I can keep it together up to that sentence but after that I can't, I just loose it every time. Even now after many years. But these things keep happening, kids getting abuses and killed by their own parents and relatives and it seems the law is not doing it's job efficiently.

Carroll took two years to write "Alyssa Lies." The song was so emotionally painful to write that he got migraines while writing. It is based on a true story of a girl that wasn't saved in time. It seemed to Carroll that no matter what he wrote, he would never be satisfied with it. When he realized that he would not be able to make the song perfect, he tried the best he could to make it realistic and sufficiently emotional. After three years, he felt it was as heartfelt as he could make it, and recorded the song!!!!

This is a terrible story, but sadly, if you remember at the beginning, he said it was based on a true story, and I doubt just one. If you read the back story on the song JMC took almost 2 years to write this because it was so hard for him to do. I think the best take away from this song is to remember as adults, we need to listen to our kids and react fast when they tell us these things about their friends. Thank you for watching and sharing your honest and open thoughts on this.

It's pretty common, especially for smaller towns, for people to absolutely know what's going on and never say a word. Oh, they'll gossip about it to each other but never tell the cops or cps. They think ita "family business" and/ or "you shouldn't tell someone how to raise their kids. That's their business". I was in my late 30s when I learned my ENTIRE town of around 1200 people knew what was happening to us. NO one ever said a word. That still pisses me off to this day.

Mr. Sebs Duran, My older brother Lenny and I were abused by both of our parents, Lenny was deafened in one ear and our mother, during YET ANOTHER one of her rage filled bearings caused a Detached Retina in my left eye not long after I started the 6th grade. I had to have emergency eye surgery then, but I was never able to see out of that eye ever again, in fact I was recently diagnosed as going completely blind in my right eye. The eye specialists have all told me that since my right eye has been doing the job for both eyes, that has worn my right eye down for all these years and that there is nothing that can “cure or fix” my right eye, and it is getting darker and darker to see. PARENTS, PLEASE LOVE YOUR CHILDREN, THEY ARE GIFTS TO YOU FROM THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY HIMSELF😊.

@davidschmidbauer3930 I should have been more clear...my apologies. I meant that people who haven't been through that should watch it. As a rape survivor and a domestic violence survivor, watching videos about those two things rips me into pieces. I completely understand that some can't watch this video. I do wish they would put a trigger warning at the beginning of the videos that are about child abuse, DV, sexual assault, etc... I hope that clears up what I failed to include in my comment. Thank you for pointing it out. I am very sorry that it has that affect on you.

I'm a retired investigative social worker for adult and child abuse. This song brings back memories of kids situations that NO ONE should have to shoulder. Kids need love and protection. Not to be hurt or neglected. They lie most times because they are told, and get, worse abuse at home if anyone finds out. So they are terrified all the time. May God bless each and every child. They are gifts from God and should be cherished.

I never grew up listening to nor paying any attention to country music but sometimes it’s all about timing. I found country when the time was right for me. I’m 50 now and got into country in 1993 when I was 21. I was driving a company truck and didn't bother changing the radio station from whoever drove it last. I was just in the frame of mind to get lost in a song and the right one came on (All These Years by Sawyer Brown) and it stayed in my ears, my mind, and in my heart for days afterward until I had to buy the CD. That’s how it started for me. I love how country songs paint vivid pictures and that each one is its own story. You asked for some songs so please review/react to All These Years by Sawyer Brown, Not That Different by Collin Raye, Till I Was A Daddy Too by Tracy Lawrence, I'm Not Supposed to Love You Anymore by Bryan White, You’re Gonna Miss This by Trace Adkins, If I Had Any Pride At All by John Berry, When She Wakes Up (And Finds Me Gone) by Tim McGraw, Matches by Sammy Kershaw, I’m Not Strong Enough To Say No by Blackhawk, and I Still Believe In You by Vince Gill. That, my friend, would give you a nice look at how great country music was, especially in the 90s (the best decade for this genre). Country tells it like it is and if there’s any emotion that you’re dealing with, this genre will bottle those feelings up and make music that will hopefully help you.

Well, that was unexpected. Heard this song many times before but my daughter just graduated kindergarten 2 days ago and it crushed me out of no where.

I have several songs that are amazing! Love all the ones I’ve seen you do so far. Best 2 country songs ever are The Dance by Garth Brooks, and topping that is The Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost by Craig Morgan, singing on the Kelly Clarkson show.

Awwww, the fact that you said "do I find the country voice cheesy..." That my friend is our sweet Southern dialect. You will be happy to know it is gradually disappearing from all the bigger Southern cities but you will still find it in the rural areas.

The first time I heard this song was my freshmen year of community college in a Humanity class. Our instructor did something along the line of the teacher in the video. He then had us write down the names of people we knew over our life that had been victims, and we had to find out where they were today. It broke me to pieces , and changed my major as doing research for this assignment I did as I was told. I had 2 friends from Middle school that it was clear were victims, and they were removed from their situations, and through this we lost touch as in middle school when I was growing up social media was a brand new thing. I found both of those girls. One followed in her parents shoes, and her life was a spiral. The other made it out but has terrible self esteem issues. I wanted to be a social worker , but through that assignment and this song, I realized I could never as that career would kill me.

I have heard this song many times. It never gets easier to listen to it. As a father of 3 girls, I cannot imagine ever laying a hand on any of them. This is another one of those songs that will bring a tear to your eye, no matter of age, race, economic situation or gender. All abuse needs to stop. Wish I had the answers.
