These guys were the elite session musicians of that time period. They also played for Michael Jackson's Thriller album and Steely Dan.

The drummer Jeff Porcaro told in an interview that he was once asked to play in a certain style for the session. The producer played the song and it was Jeff himself playing the drums which he naturally recognised immediately.
@Reardonsteel23610 ай бұрын
So your saying that the producer wanted Jeff to play like Jeff? Lol@@onsesejoo2605

I was a teenager in the 80's. All this music was just atmospheric to me back then. Like you said, I'm just now starting to really appreciate how good some of those bands actually were.

This is my favorite Toto song, and it always makes me wonder why they never really let Bobby Kimball loose a little more. He kills it on lead vocals and they still hand it off to other guys so much. Give him free rein on a few of their rock bangers and I think they become a truly iconic band.

I agree! I love his vocals, he needed to be up front more.

One of the first rock songs of the late 70's to have a "new" sound when it came out in 1978 along with "Just What I needed" by The Cars that came out just a few months earlier...Amazing music.

This came out when I was in junior high and I immediately loved it on the radio and rushed out and bought the single and came home and figured the piano part out in 2 or 3 minutes and then I spent the next several weeks annoying my family by banging that piano part, playing the bassline with my left hand, and trying to sing to it which of course is nearly impossible because Mickey Thomas is so damn good. And I would say he definitely has soul to his voice. You've probably already reacted to it but the hit song Jane by Jefferson Starship features Mickey Thomas on lead vocals and it is another absolute powerhouse in terms of showing off his singing ability. Plus it's a totally rocking song. He also takes lead on an Elvin Bishop Band song that was a huge hit in its own right, I Fooled Around and Fell in Love. There he really shows you some of his soul.
