G'day from Australia , The secret compartment is impressive however I was more impressed by the fact that it was a two sided frame many a time I've had to hide something behind a frame that I would've liked access to show the other side, great idea thank you, Tim .... PS: would've been too simple for me to think of it 😊😊

Very nice, when you split the board on the band saw it seems like it is the same thickness as before. How did you make up for the width of the blade? Seems like it would not be flush?
@dpmakestuff8 жыл бұрын
I mention that in the video description, but basically the band saw blade kerf is so thin, I was able to sand down the difference on the other boards. Thanks!

Nicely done. I don't have a CNC machine, what would you suggest instead: router, or maybe a chisel and hammer?

Yeah a router and a template or a drill bit and a chisel. Thanks!

The part of the frame that you cut on the bandsaw, how did you get it the same thickness as the others because you took a saw blade width out of it?
@HopeStreetWoodworks8 жыл бұрын
At 2:54 when you are splitting that piece on the bandsaw, what kind of blade are you using? It looks like you are getting an incredibly smooth cut. All of my bandsaw cuts are extremely rough
@dpmakestuff8 жыл бұрын
Its a scary expensive Laguna Resaw King blade. If this one broke, I'd buy it again. It transformed how I think about bandsaw cuts.

Thanks for the quick explanations as to why you were doing various techniques at various parts. It made the video a lot more informative. Did you have any trouble with those pieces of brass (?) bending when you were pushing them into the timber?
@dpmakestuff8 жыл бұрын
Gnuthad thank you! They were brass and I I had no problem getting them in there. I used the wooden mallet to make sure I didn't damage them.

Dustin, I'm curious why you don't have the riving knife on your saw? Serious question, do you have a reason for not using it? I'm looking at upgrading my saw and one of the features I wanted most is a riving knife, hence my question. Thanks for the vid btw, it's really a neat design.
@dpmakestuff8 жыл бұрын
Larry527az I have one and love it. I use it along with the guard since SawStop did an incredible job designing the whole thing. This was a particularly bad board and was pinching the riving knife too so I removed it. If you look close at that shot, you can see the board is already cut a little.
@larry527az38 жыл бұрын

Truman F .....dimensions..sorry. you know like how thick is the wood he used,, how deep are the half laps he made,, how deep is the hidden compartment?..not sure what the difference is? plans or dimensions..is there??
@dpmakestuff8 жыл бұрын
Joe basementwoodworking I didn't make plans since they would only work for that size of picture. I based the thickness of the material on the thickness of the ice pick. I didn't want the have to make a groove in the front face.

did you shorten your ice pick?
@dpmakestuff8 жыл бұрын
yes! About an inch off the handle and 3/4" off the spike. I also trimmed the excess out of the sheath. It's roughly 3" shorter but the spike is nearly the same. Fits in my pocket better this way. instagram.com/p/BK4R91GjrvL/?taken-by=dpmakestuff
@spencemade6598 жыл бұрын
I'm going to have to do the same thing. i love the ice pick but it is just to long to keep in a pocket comfortably.
@dpmakestuff8 жыл бұрын
spence made Cutting the handle was easy. I used a torch to heat the spike until it fell out and then trimmed the sheath to fit the spike perfectly. Then I used a jewelers saw to remake the split and a steel center punch to make the dent.
