You pretty much already know that if someone says "I'm really not a big drinker" or "I have a beer/a glass of wine now and then" they are probably abusing alcohol (NOT the same as being an alcoholic). Especially if they are fat (alcohol=calories; Not saying thin people can't have an issue but they'd have to eat extremely little or have absorption issues to drink a lot regularly and stay that size). Most people that don't would be more specific, more along the lines of "I sometimes have a glass when going out", "I sometimes have one on the weekends", "I like having a few beers when I'm out with my mates on Friday night" or "I only drink on special occasion". Now, that's not a guarantee of course, but generally trying to downplay it and giving very vague answers, some of them being essentially non-answers ( "I'm really not a big drinker" and such kind of lets the people hearing it interpret it instead of making any clear statements) already is a huge warning sign, same with food ("I really don't eat that much"...) and other things that can be abused int hat way.

@@blueram3063 The British don't use humour like this as a means of 'laughing off' the importance of their problems. We use humour as a gracious way of dealing with some very serious situations. Don't forget what the British had to cope with during the air raids that many cities had to endure night after night in World War Two. Families would go into their shelters when the alarm sounded at the start of an air raid, not knowing if they'd have a house to go back to in the morning. Some would come out of the shelters the next morning, only to find that the entire street of houses had been demolished by German bombers. Have some respect for British humour. Our parents and grandparents generation wouldn't have made it through some of our country's darkest times without it, and it still serves us well now, no matter the 'importance of the problem.'

People do not realize just HOW much sport you need to do to work off that much food. If you're an olimpian athelete and train 7/8 hours a day you can eat whatever you want, but with a normal schedule you don't burn off much and you need to watch what you eat
@oliviariley46167 жыл бұрын
meggyspencer on a normal schedule your body can burn up to 1500 calories doing absolutely nothing as your body uses the energy from calories to work. Average exercise only burns about 200-300 calories. Therefore you can eat up to 2000 calories a day doing a normal amount of movement and not gain weight just stay the same.

Yes, and most importantly oil! No matter how healthy an oil is, they're all very calorie dense so they have to be counted. Olive oil is about 120 calories per tablespoon, so you can eat a huge plate of healthy veggies, but if you slather it in oil it could easily still be 500 or more calories.

I love these shows they show that the easiest way to tackle obesity is education, not everyone is aware or wants to be aware of how food impacts not only our weight but our health! It's our responsibility to actually teach our children to cook nourishing food! It's so hard to get away from junk food and more emphasis needs to be placed on it's okay to have fast food a few times a month but also bring it back to basics at home in the kitchen!

@uniqwiab86797 жыл бұрын
mnguyea I hope she burned more than 285 calories lol
@Krazycutiegurlxxx7 жыл бұрын
Unless you're doing fuck all at the gym, 285 calories will not "defeat everything". 285 calories is not a lot to burn. Not even a 1,000 calorie meal will defeat anything. If you burn 500 calories on a treadmill, then eat a 500 calorie meal, you consumed not zero calories. Meanwhile your workout improved your fitness and your meal nourished you. It's a pretty important dynamic. If you didn't burn those calories and still ate the sandwich, you ate a net 500 calories. If you go to the gym and don't eat at all afterwards, you ate a net -1000 calories. This will make you lose weight as long as it means you've consumed below your maintenance calories, but the fact that you didn't eat after gym isn't the point, it's the fact that you did not eat period. If you don't eat the sandwich or go to the gym, you ate a net zero calories. You didn't improve your fitness nor did you nourish yourself. My point here is that working out and eating aren't opposite actions. If i lift weights for 2 hours and don't eat at all, i will have lost a lot of calories, so i will lose weight. However, it will take longer for me to recover from my workout without nutrition, and my gains will not be as good as they could have been if i had chosen nutrient-dense food to eat pre and post-workout. The consumption of calories doesn't undo my work in the gym; it can work against my aims (say if i eat a nutritionally crappy 500 calorie cupcake when i want to lose weight), or it can work with my aims (say if i eat a nutrient dense salad with skinless chicken when i want to gain muscle). Unless you plan on going hungry, you're going to eat. The message isn't "don't eat", the message is "eat things that will be good for you and eat more if you want to gain weight and less if you want to lose weight".

The metric system is easier in that it works in 10's. But it is not an INTUITION system. Things were measured for a very long time by what you had on you. Put two hands together finger tips touching in a circle and it's 1 pound of fat. Spread your thumb and pinky far apart and you get half a foot. two fingers together is 1 inch. etc... Feet in height is just very straight forward. No one thinks of things automatically in Kg because only at the doctors do you hear it used.

She never speaks of cholesterol or growth hormones in meat and dairy, just calories. She never explains to these folks that the reason they are munching on cheese into the night is because they are lacking high quality calories from plants and other nourishing foods. She simply says to restrict and move more. Yes workout, but just change the source of calories and then you’ll have more energy to move lol.

I'm firmly convinced that anyone who's overweight but says they eat a totally healthy diet are conveniently forgetting all those high calorie snacks they're eating all day long. Seems like most people underestimate the amount of calories they're eating on a daily basis while overestimating the amount of calories they're burning.
@seithroil6 жыл бұрын
Definitely what you eat doesn't matter nearly as much as much as how much you eat
@whatrtheodds7 жыл бұрын
This is more common then not, this really convinced warped perspective on what is actually eaten. I have had a few friends that have been overweight with the same mindset. I wonder why this happens. I always say, ill put you on a diet and we shall see what happens, I volunteer to monitor. I just love this stuff. but they refuse..... I over eat too but I very well don't lie about it. I say to my friends that it is exactly the reason I'm carrying extra weight.
@julz3tt37 жыл бұрын
Kylie Marsh that's why I gained a staggering amount of weight. I over ate and the portion sizes were big. No snacking but the meals were huge and carbo laden. Plus I drank gallons of sugary coke and Pepsi I did. Not anymore
@HarrietFitzgerald5806 жыл бұрын
I was in denial for a long time. Just couldn't understand why I was putting on weight. Finally took a good long hard look at my eating habits. Bit of a shocker. Luckily things have gotten better and when I do overeat I am very aware of it. 😂🙈

I really like Laura, she is sweet, spunky and funny. She was a lot closer to reality then her friend Fay (whom also seems nice btw) and it looks like she gets where she is going wrong, she even said it herself that she is in denial, which is a very good sign. I'm quite surprised a human can fool itself so thoroughly, to be 1000 kcal off, and much worse 2600 off, that's _a lot_ of food. I have been both under- and slightly over weight (now normal) but I always knew why I was and how much I ate.

Use the gym to work on tone and muscle. Not for diet. Diet is simple, if you remember the most important rule: "The _only_ way you can gain weight is by eating". If it doesn't go past your lips, it'll never hit your hips. _You_ are the one who decides what you put in your mouth.

As someone who tracks literally everything that I eat down to a single sunflower seed, the idea of people not realizing what they eat scares me. Almost 1200 cals for lunch??? That’s a day’s food for me!

@Criseteno5 жыл бұрын
@@garden2571 Unless you're around 4 years old or you're spending your day not moving a single muscle, 1200 kcals a day is only just enough to keep you going and is not a healthy amount of food to have every day. I totally agree with you that kcals are not always a good measure of what you eat, but do check with your GP to make sure everything's ok with you. Last time I did that, I managed to get really close to ostheoporosis. Best of luck!
@Criseteno5 жыл бұрын
1200 kcals/day is enough to sustain... a 4 yr. old. Please do check with your GP, make sure you're ok. Going hypocaloric for a short while is ok, but when it becomes a lifestyle, you can get quite serious consequences. I know, I've been there. Hope the best for you.

A similar thing to it here in the states is Brown Bread. It’s sold in a can, so it’s round, not square. You can eat it as is-but it’s better toasted. You can get it with or without raisins.
