Michael G sorry you are jealous but standards actually went up not down with Kalamazoo promise scholarship program and kids are taking SAT early, in cases in 8th grade. How you perceive Kalamazoo is not even close. How can it be remote? it has an international airport, the city is located off of I-94 and 131 and Kalamazoo has a train station too, which connects to Lansing and Ann Arbor. You sound like a jealous MSU student that knows the kids who graduate from the Kalamazoo promise program gets employed fast. Why? No debt which employers like. Readers Digest and Wall Street Journal speaks highly of Kalamazoo and readers digest rated 7th best community in America. One the the fastest growing in Michigan too

People put themselves into their own financial mess. 1) The federal govt should not issue student loans. They issue them to EVERYONE, that's why the cost of college is so high. If you were the college you would increase prices too if you knew people had such easy access to money borrowed or not. 2) You have to map out a plan. Put yourself in the best situation for highest ROI. a) Pick a degree you know will land you a high paying job. b) Find the cheapest way to attain that degree. Apply to hundreds of scholarships. You will get turned down on 97% of them. But if you get 3%, you could still end up with a few grand. Take first 2 year classes at a community college. Take the last 2 years at an in-state STATE college. Work the entire time you're in school. Live at home if possible and commute. Don't go out and blow hundreds to "be cool". College isn't suppose to be sexy. You're broke. Act like it! You're going to college to invest in yourself, period. If you're there for any other reason, you shouldn't be there. It kills me when a kid who got a degree in underwater basket weaving at an out-of-state private school while going out 4 nights/week cries for Bernie Sanders to rescue them with student loan forgiveness. Get the flock outta here!

Not going to tell you which one, but everything we offer for free, the third party company makes you pay for and some even LIE on your income driven to get you $0 payments and claim they cleared your debt. No thanks, I talk to borrowers that fall for third party companies daily.

Those third party companies tend to lie on IDRs and you're paying for a company to do something we offer for free through the US Department of Education. Yeah, you may get lower payments by having them lie on an IDR app, but the IRS could audit you and you'd probably be in big trouble. It's much easier to do the application on studentaid.gov or the pre-filled application, or the paper application.

There is no "clearing your loan debt" as people claim. It's all fake. You can get your loans forgiven after 20-25 years on IDR, or after 10 if you're working for a non-profit or government organization, but yeah. There's too many scammers out there. If you need help with your loans, call your servicer and let them help, not a third party company.
