I totally called the snubbing of Phillips the moment the Cardinals won the pennant in 2011. I commented to a writer friend of mine that night that there's no way he picks Phillips for the All-Star game in 2012. Sure enough, when the time came, he didn't pick Phillips AND didn't choose Cueto, who was especially deserving that year, saying that since he worked on the previous Sunday before the game there was no point in putting him on the team. It was total sour grapes on LaRussa's part, whether he admits it or not.
