Dusty Baker-Tony La Russa spat, Cubs-Cardinals, Sept. 3, 2003

In the fourth game of a critical five-game series between the Cubs and Cardinals at Wrigley Field in 2003, tensions rose in the bottom of the third inning. Cardinals starter Dan Haren, who was plunked by Cubs starter Matt Clement in the second, retaliated by hitting Clement in the leg with a pitch in the third. It led to a heated exchange between Cubs manager Dusty Baker and Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, who were shouting at each other from dugout to dugout. The Cubs, who trailed 2-0 at the time, fell behind 6-0 in the sixth before rallying to win 8-7. I'll upload the entire game later, but the Baker-La Russa spat was too good not to post as soon as possible. Here's the link to the box score from Baseball Reference: bit.ly/2b543bD

Chip Caray noting Matheny actually being in the "catcher's box" is hilarious to me as a Braves' fan. Many people may remember that the Atlanta Braves actually suspended Chip's dad, Skip Caray and also Pete Van Wieren after they continually noted live on-air on the TBS Superstation how far out of the "catcher's box" Javy Lopez was setting up. Their repeated attention to the situation got back to the umpires and the umpires actually gave an opposing runner first base after he noticed Lopez doing it again in the following game. I believe MLB fined Atlanta for not having a proper CB lined out, as well. The fans outcry actually got the suspension lifted after only two games if memory serves correctly.

The Carays have had a family history of run-ins with the ballclubs they call for. Chip and the Cubs, Skip and the Braves...and I think even Harry had some with the Cards or Sox.

Definitely with the Cards it’s ultimately what got him fired. There was. rumor that Harry was involved with Busch’s wife , Harry being flattered by it didn’t deny it. He did his press conference with a six pack of Schlitz on the table. Which he claimed in his book was another mistake, cause he was a Bud man all the way.

Never liked Tony La Russa just simply for the fact he wants to walk around like he is the greatest manager of all-time. Don't get me wrong he did a hell of a job managing the Cardinals but in my opinion Joe Torre and Bobby Cox were the two best managers during their time.
