Gotta say, I think this beef was entirely the Rockets managements fault. They undervalued their franchise player because they knew he wanted to stay in the city. I'm glad those guys sold the team before Hakeem got his rings.

@@rickfox804 it was. He (Red) was pissed because basically Phil surpassed his wins record and had the potential to win more championships than him. I dont think phil did though. Red won about 16 titles.

@@deondavis05712 As a coach, Red won 9, Jackson 11, so Phil does own that record. Red did win 7 more as GM/executive.

Each of the SB writers has their own sort of vibe to their videos. Clara's videos have this hat-on-backwards coolness of an old college friend telling me a story :)

And imagine if Vince Carter stayed at the Raptors forever & his trade demand has failed. Probably the Raps would get a championship in 2009.
@181cameron4 жыл бұрын
@@wazzup233 definitely a topic for another video, but I think they'd definitely have one by 2009 had VC not missed that shot vs Philly (they wouldn't have won the chip that year, but it would have set the stage for a true contender). Maybe Hakeem would have joined a happier overall squad and added a 3rd ring to his collection?

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. I remember, back in the days of NEWSPAPERS, there were articles that we were going to bring Hakeem Olajuwon to Seattle, for Benoit Benjamin, Derrick McKey, Dana Barros, and Mike Cage.

Imagine the 96 sonics with Hakeem on the team as well might not finish as high due to losing some depth

Crazy! I knew about this beef, but didn't know all the quotes that came with it. Dream had every right to ask for a trade from Houston, but only because they wouldn't give him a raise, but because the organization didn't even put a decent team around, after the 86 Finals run, until 92.

Very mild beef if I may say so. I would love for you guys to do another beef history on international football. I loved when you did the Romário x Edmundo one and I feel like there is a lot of material in the sport to do a Texas BBQ worth of beef. José Mourinho x Pep Guardiola Carlos Vela x Mexican national team Maradona x England Maradona x Brazil Luis Suarez x People who don't like being bitten Neymar x Cavani Souza x Botafogo team (this one is a very curveball and only Brazilian fans would know but it is probably the best one material-wise. Involves one player doing crying gestures to the other team, the other team's supporters calling him "garbage man" and many other gems)

I love the Rockets and Olajuwon, but this really was a thing: by early 1992, it looked like Hakeem was fed up with the Rockets lack of championship progress and wanted out. It was a close call, and something I think remained in doubt until the Rockets reeled off a 15-game winning streak in early 1993. Disaster averted for the Rockets, since, like what usually happens with a superstar of Olajuwon's magnitude, the team wouldn't received equal value.

In the spirit of the Wilpons officially selling the Mets, can we get an Untitled episode for David Wright? In terms of WAR, he's the greatest homegrown position player the Mets ever produced. The Wilpons did that man wrong for years by not giving him the supporting cast he needed, and by the time he finally reached a WS, he was on borrowed time.

As a Mets fan. I cry about how cheap the Wilpons were. And to let the talents of David Wright and Jose Reyes go to complete waste.

@@JoshDaGreat16 There's a great article on Good Fundies outlining a comprehensive list of shitty things that Jeff and Fred have done since they bought out Nelson Doubleday. My personal favorite little factoid: Jeffy boy has never had an actual job title outside of the Mets. He played baseball in college, he got drafted by the Expos as a favor to Fred, and then decided to go work with his daddy. The man is the epitome of a trust fund baby. It's astounding that these two sleazeballs ran an MLB franchise in the biggest city in the country
