This is a genius. One thing I took from this is his need to not engage with the media noise, anything to do with being defined or to be placed within a pre defined context. His ‘function’ as he put it was, I think, just to be himself as an artist/person and to let things come through him in as pure and unaffected way as possible. This is what is lost in the race to ‘win’ or ‘achieve’ in the arts.

best MES interview online due to the intelligent interviewer. you can tell MES was at ease and felt respected by the good thoughtful questions and the pacing.

Had a couple pints around time of 'extricate' with Mark. He was a gent and only playfully rude. Some say he was getting his teeth into Martin B again.

Loved, missed and life goes on...my yearly, sometimes twice yearly fall treats no more but fuck me,what a history to play with and bring out into the now. All in all this sometime pain in the arse was a good bloke. Mural in Prestwich great tribute, beyond the need for eulogy.

Martin's a great guy and a good interviewer. Nobody's fool, I think Mark recognises that as he is so open: "I'm from Salford" To me, that's Mark gushing.

A lot gets said about what a difficult interviewee he was. He seems pretty pleasant and forthcoming here.

Yeah, I imagine it depended on his general mood and whether the interviewer was asking banal, repetitive questions.

I met him on a number of occasions once to interview and he was fine with me. A unique visionary and bandleader who's up there with Sun Ra, Beefheart and James Brown in innovation.

Not sure why none of the comments are showing but anyway....I quite like this interview because, although its awkward like all his interviews, Jet just sticks to trying to elicit some interesting info rather than trying to be clever or get gossip like asking the age old question about his sacking people from the band
