As a prior (2014-2019) WFM employee, one of the perks to inventory night was they'd just let us have tons of the bakery items normally to be discarded once it's out of the daily freshness. (Some stores also gave various freebies in the break room almost daily if you weren't picky.) Also hope you like pies if you worked Thanksgiving or the days after.

Whole Foods use to make the most delicious chocolate bread but they no longer make it. It was made close to Christmas and I would buy 4 freeze 2 give 1 to my daughter and then eat one. They were really delicious.

They used to bake a lot of the items fresh before Amazon bought Whole Foods. I remember one time years ago I bought a bakery item and they said they had to bake it off fresh the next day and they didn’t have anymore in stock. Years later I go and buy “the same” item and ask and they said they don’t bake it anymore, another cake I bought the lady told me they receive a huge frozen slab of it then thaw it and serve it.

@@roxcyn As somebody who worked WFM from January 2014 to April 2019 (found a *WAY* better job, relevant to my qualifications), I worked most of that time in their "Prepared Foods" (deli/hot bar "buffett"/soups/salad bar/pizza and even a burger station depending on the store) dept. Truthfully the company was going downhill (too many stories) before Amazon bought them and I told customers my suspicion is AMZN was being scapegoated for changes. Some ingredients in bakery (dept was adjacent to mine) were made from scratch ingredients (hence why they hire production and "morning baker" roles), especially if somebody ordered for an event in the days before. As hinted in the video, of course too many things came just about daily from the various "bakehouses" in the supply chain. Although I do not know for sure which of that department's items are frozen from suppliers. Some stores like Greenwich, CT's bakery had some really incredible-looking items if the local area was that wealthy. (Likely can be made to order at other stores.) PS It really depended which store and department you worked in whether it was an enjoyable work experience. Hard to top my old coworker Alan's "I miss the people. Not the place."

Last two times I bought a Whole Foods baguette, it was day old (at least). Not gonna waste my calories on old bread.

I'm allergic to lots of things. You'd think that Whole Foods would care. They don't give a damn. They don't. Their barkery section doesn't care. If you want to know what's in the food--they'll give you a book. I've given up going to Whole Foods for the foods I can eat. I get better care from my local Kroger brand. At least, Kroger doesn't pretend to care while stocking sections that should be safe to me with lots of food I can't eat. For more detail, I want just one thing in the bakery (either baked in house or delivered). Given that they don't care about my dietary issues, Whole Foods is the last store I think about when I have a craving. They're dead last. And shame on them for proclaiming that they're the store who cares. They don't.
