The title is scary section 8 for 10 years? After watching the entire video. The situation got worse. The landlord has every right to ask for market value on their property. She had 4 children in 10 years, how is that the landlord's fault? The largest apartment according to the for rent sign is 3 bedrooms. Six children have to share 2 bedrooms, that is insane. She talked about sleeping on couches in the past and now she is forcing her children to sleep on couches. You can't make this up.

During that time I took that opportunity and went back to school, because I had no intention on remaining on it long term. I gave myself 3 years max on the program. I went back to school and obtained my bachelor. I was offered a position that paid enough to take care of children, pay my bills and rent. I requested and had my section 8 case closed. I looked at her with a blank face and I told her, "an apartment the size of this house is 1800. This is right up my alley."! I had a tenant who was on Section 8 years back. She had one son fathered by a man who ended up in jail for life basically (i.e. 50+ years). She chose to use the system in order to attend college. She worked as well while studying. It took her about 7 years to finish, but today she is a nurse and doing very well. She also still has the one son who went to jail as well, but that part shouldn't be a shock. Through it all, I chose not to raise her rent at all because of what she was doing. I just took whatever the county paid. To this day, she was my only section 8 tenant. Everyone else simply weeded themselves out for stupid reasons.

I've known women in similar situations doing much worse! What happened to the son was unfortunate, but his father's genetics were prevalent. She's maybe 5'3", he's about 6'3", and there's no man in the house to prevent such things. I'm sure she regrets a ton of things. I'm originally from New Orleans but I have been living in Iowa for the last 12 years and that section 8 hustle has ran its course with black women in particular. The fact that section 8 pays more was the lure for landlords but now they see there's a lifestyle that comes with section 8. It's the biggest reason rent is so high across the country. Now landlords are taking less money just to get rid of section 8 tenants. I tried to warn black people of this in 2019 when I ran for city council but they told me to get lost. The reason many landlords are backing out of the Section 8 program is because of the sons of single mothers 🙄 When Pookie decides to shoot Ray Ray and the SWAT team comes looking for him... All that damage that's done when they kick down the front & back doors, smash the windows, etc. That costs us (the landlords) money. Dropping $8,000 to remodel one of your properties every time one of these "little angels" ends up wanted by the police gets real old, real quickly 🤬 So many Section 8 investors have moved on to other opportunities.

She would then get on line, place most of the items on the tray belt and when it came to make the purchase, she would take out the EBT card. I, other security staff, and female employees would apprehend the female and she would have the nerve to show out because we caught her on cameras shoplifting the non-foods concealed in her pocket books. Northface, Ralph Lauren, Dior, Benetton, Made in Italy high end labels, etc. At the rate I was going it was starting to affect me financially a little bit. Still paying bills on time but I started using credit cards to buy things. So reading that part about learn to do without resonated something in me and made me think about what my late Grandmother use to say. I need to start exercising what she taught me. Stay safe Sista. Didn’t mean to ramble on like that. RIP Piggy

I lived in Senior-low-income housing for 8 years. My husband was in a nursing home during that time leaving me with less than $1000 per month for 7 years. One year after he passed, I bought my own home and got out of senior housing.

Just subscribed! I am a black man, whose family moved from Texas to California in the 1940's. Ultimately, my family became business owners, property owners, local political leaders, and subsequently, millionaires. I was taught to work for what you want!

A few days ago I went to a community discussion event and sat at table with a woman in her late 30s. Part of the discussion was about sharing your experiences and things that concern you in your community and I share that I am from a rural area where many black people settled during the migration or on the underground railroad and opened up churches businesses etc. I'm trying to learn more about other black communities as the world I grew up in was more or less small town black life, and middle class city life in private schools with other black people like me who were also generally middle to upper income. She explained to me with pride how she had just been able to purchase a home with another family. She then spoke about how she had just left her job as a cashier at a city cafeteria, and how she had taken a customer service job at a local hospital. She spoke on how she'd been living in public housing and vouchers for many years and how the home was a big step and I said congrats. She then told me that she was a SINGLE MOTHER AND HAD EIGHT CHILDREN. I smiled and just said wow, you buying a home must be great for them and such a big step. We talked further and she asked about security and lifestyle we experienced. The experience at a rural school; racism was an issue but manageable but in general as we were second generation and owned a sizeable farm people knew our family and the others and generally treated us well. She said " I GUESS I NEVER THOUGHT THAT NOT ALL BLACK PEOPLE LIVE IN THE CITY." She went on to say how she'd never really thought that black people lived in the country or that it was a different life out there. I told her that based on the last census, more black people live in the suburbs and rural areas than in cities. The whole conversation was enlightening; I'd seen videos about this type of thing but never met anyone like that. I'm happy she's making progress in her life but I'm stuck wondering why she had so many kids when she was living in public housing, and working as a cashier. I wonder how much farther she could have got in life if she perhaps moved to a small town with an average public school, affordable living, and less violent crime. This video really shows that there is a larger issue at hand where not having children and living on living public assistance without having a liveable income is fine. The woman in the video claimed she had her dignity taken; no, you showed that you have little dignity for yourself by making questionable choices in having six kids when you had no money to survive.

" I told her that based on the last census, more black people live in the suburbs and rural areas than in cities. " Its WAY more urban than rural statistically, BUT Its increasing. Now almost 10% which is good. Long term I want to move to rural.

@@dathip It has it's positives and negatives; what I find telling is how my mom, and my many aunts and uncles are all starting to move back to the area from city as they retire. We have our family farm setup in a trust with a few hundred acres, and now that they are in their 60s and 70s they seem to be gravitating back to the simplicity. 20 minutes outside the village, 1 hour to a major city, and your near so much nature, food, and peace.

They don't need a men when they are on Section 8. Imagine how they are raising their kids who are boys. Do they even care about them?

This is absolutely disgusting!!! Where is the accountability?!? Not only by the people on these programs decade after decade, but the government too? Why are these people allowed to continue to be eligible for these programs year after year. There should be a time limit of eligibility when it comes to these tax funded programs. I get taxed by the Feds, I get taxed by the state, I get taxed by the county and I get taxed by the city I live in. It's my money and I want accountability now!!!!

I understand some people need assistance. Unless you elderly or physically can't work. Every other person should have a time limit on the system.

The amount of place is here in Charleston for rent. Whether it be apartments or homes are not accepting section 8 anymore. And that's been going on for the last 10 to 12 years. There are plenty of people around here that qualify, but if there are no landlords accepting it, that don't mean a damn thing. So that's why you see so many single moms stuck at their mama's house with all their kids seven to two bedroom three bedroom house

My first time viewing this. Im glad you touched on this topic. The law needs to change. The reason why some of this foolishness is happening is because the law is allowing these foolishness to stay on section 8, housing & subsidized housing for years and years. Allowing those on waitlists to wait and wait. The law need to allow these foolishness to only stay on these type of programs for a certain amount of time and allow others who are on waitlists to rent from these type of programs just like some of these foolishness!!!!!!! It’s been going on for yrs and yrs and something needs to change. Thank you sis for shining light on this topic.
