SECURITY GUARDS ON TRIAL: 3 charged in 2014 death at Michigan mall

Three security guards are on trial for the death of a man who died at Southfield's Northland Mall while they were restraining him in 2014.
John Seiberling, Gaven King, and Aaron Maree were charged with involuntary manslaughter after the death was reviewed years later. A fourth guard charged with the death, Lucius Hamilton, pleaded guilty, and a fifth guard died before charges were filed.

In 2014, the then Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper did not pursue criminal charges and said there was no intention to kill and no chokeholds were done by the security guards. In 2020, Cochran’s family asked Southfield police chief Elvin Barren to review the case a second time. Barren decided to send it to the Attorney General’s Office. Then in 2021 the officers were charged. 1 has died since then, another has plead guilty for a plea, the other three are now standing trial.

I don’t understand why went so fast from asking to leave to pepper first. Yes told him not cone towards, but still. Why stay on him so long after stopped moving? And then why no one uncuff and help him once unconscious? I’m glad the guard that did chock hold plead. Another one I see in video pushing so hard on his shoulders. This isn’t as straight forward as many other cases. It always bothers me the injustice to Rodney King and how that played out. Video of several officers kicking a man on the ground and none held accountable. If that had been handled differently then moving forward some or many future events may have been avoided. Would know not appropriate, not tolerated and punished. Could have put into play policy changes and training. But to allow that to go unpunished was disgusting.

@@shatarareana , It has been quite some time. They do this on purpose so that evidence and witnesses are suppressed over time.
