According to a credible source - yours truly - Hodad's in Ocean Beach, San Diego, makes the best burger in the world. I'm not paid to say or write this. But I believe in it.
This interview with Bossman was recorded in february of 2013. Unfortunately Bossman has since passed away. RIP.

I happened to be surfing in SD back in 05-06 and just walked into Hodads by chance. Still to this day is the best burger joint on the planet. And I live in New Zealand, traveled the world for almost 20 years. Hands down the best!

Best burger I've had was from Husk, Sean Brock's restaurant. Nothing comes close. Or if you want a big meaty bastard... ground USDA prime ribeye, aged 30 days, ground, topped with thick cut Nueske or Benton's bacon, a housemade brioche bun, caramelized onions. sauteed mushrooms, smokey bourbon aioli.

Really after traveling the last 4 yrs from Thailand to South America, burgers are regional in how people like tremor what's "popular". I would guess what makes the best burger mixes familiarity, nostalgia, flavor profile, texture and mouth feel. That's all personal preference though. @@TehFoamy

Personally, I feel that there's several thick-cut onions, thick-cut tomatoes, big handfuls of lettuce, and several pickles and the main ingredient that should be thick is the burger. All those veggies just seem to over-power the taste of the burger itself. If it was me, I would either thin-cut the veggies or make the burgers thicker.

That's because burgers aren't rocket science. You press an indent with your finger and salt and pepper it to form a crust and it's it. That's how you make the best burger. The best burger comes from using the highest quality meats in the right ratios.
