Piercing a blue froch
O’ froad an saat wis framed
A solan in a spray o’ mist.
Da sun wis a great yellow keeshie,
Spricklin light upa da casts o’ crests.
Atween water cuts winked da sand eel,
Hypnotised be da ripples o’ sand.
Da solan fileted water lik skin,
Fish caught be da knife.
So see enoo da best o’ Shetland
Trow a glimmer o’ da Sletts.

Piercing a blue petticoat
Of froth and salt was framed
A solan in a spray of mist.
The sun was a great yellow basket
Sprinkling light upon casting crests.
Between water cuts winked a sand eel,
Hypnotised by the ripples in the sand.
The solan filleted water like skin,
Fish caught like a knife.
So see now the best of Shetland
Through a glimmer of the Sletts.
