I added some old soil to my tomato bed then noticed after an ant colony. I was so lazy and didn’t feel like driving to buy more soil, well, now I’m paying for it. I’m hoping and praying I can save my tomatoes. Gardening is definitely a humbling experience.

Regarding the garlic….we always grow hard neck garlic and I can keep it for at least 10 months in my cold room. I hear lots of people talk about soft neck storing longer….I find that here in the north, it softens and goes back so much faster than hardneck.. you made some delicious looking products today. I can hardly wait for my garlic to be ready. Thanks so much, have a wonderful day 🇨🇦🌷

Great ideas!!!! I've made garlic powder (dehydrating on porch outside). It was so much richer than store bought. I certainly will try the garlic paste balls, garlic salt, and any other that your commenters entice me with. Good video even if it was very small harvest.

Thanks for showing this. I'm wondering why my garlic and onion went ga-ga!!! I planted them next to my beans and peas !😮

Sure thing! I’m not one to follow the rules of companion planting, nor really any rules in the garden 😬😂 Ive planted garlic and onions next to those and had them fine but I guess there is always a first for everything!

@@seedandsparrowhomestead Well, funny thing, last year I planted peas and beans up the trellis, but then turned around and planted onions, leek, garlic, oh, and ginger by the peas and beans. My onion, leek and garlic, never matured, AND, my peas went powder mold and it was awful. I have learned a delicate lesson 😞. So thanks very much becuz I just got done pulling out garlic and onion that we're going nowhere slow because my peas are planted next to them .

I make garlic confit every year. It’s one of my favorite ways to preserve garlic. Here is how you make it. Place peeled cloves in a thick bottom pot and cover with any oil you like. Bring it to a gentle simmer on low, and cook it for 45 minutes. Stir and check the pot every 10-15 minutes. Once the cloves are soft and roasted, transfer to sterile mason jars. This will last a long time in cold storage, and can also be frozen. Extra oil from the top of the cloves, can be siphoned off and used as garlic oil We use garlic confit in any recipe that calls for roasted garlic or garlic paste. It’s fantastic in hummus and pesto, on toast with a little salt, in garlic bread, mixed with pasta and cheese, added to pizza dough and so much more.

😂 I was just thinking, Kelsey’s bandaid is proof she is a mom! We aren’t huge garlic people 😮 I know, how weird is that? But, I’m thinking about planting some of the elephant garlic this fall. My understanding is it is a little more mild which may work well for us. Thank you for sharing the ideas for using the garlic too! When you don’t eat much of it you sorta miss the options of ways to use it. I also appreciate the info about the bug problem and how you will address it. I think the new soil we brought in this year came with big pressure that I wasn’t prepared for. I tend to be an immediate results person so for my fourth garden I went into it thinking we were over the ‘new garden and gardener hurdles’. 😂 I have learned otherwise and frankly I do get a little discouraged but am quickly reminded that the garden will be different every year and will have unique challenges as well. I will be really focusing on building soil health and bug control this fall. Thank you for sharing your journey because it helps people like me who are just hobbling through the trenches. You’re a blessing! Thank you.

Another wonderful video!! Thank you so much for the recipes. I cook daily with garlic, but love to have some ready to go!! Your recipes are great inspirations, as always. My garlic scapes are just coming on up here in the North. My family loves them!! Actually, we all love everything about garlic.... The reason I plant 425 cloves in order to have enough for the year. Continued prayers for your health.

Yes! I have my first ever garlic harvest coming in soon (still not sure if they are ready). I was planning on mincing most and freezing then into cubes. But I want to experiment with curing and storing in the basement. Thanks for the recipes and the helpful info for keeping garlic healthy in the future.

Absolutely! They’re ready once bottom 4 leaves have yellowed/browned! You can harvest as soon as the bottom two have yellowed, the bulbs just may not have reached their full potential ☺️ Thanks for watching!

I clean and mince my garlic and freeze dry it. I do 20-35 lbs per year. The taste and convenience is unbeatable. I leave mine minced and do not powder mine.

Great content!! Just so I am tracking with you. If I plant my garlic in late october and the pest arrives in may or june. I can cover them asap or at least cover them before the fly arrives and infests my garlic like in march, right? Could I spray the garlic with Neem to prevent the pest?? Thanks so much!!

Hey Kelsey. I'm trying to use your Amazon store front to purchase some things but Amazon isn't linking your front to my Amazon so your not getting the credit. I've tried many times to link the 2 even with other KZbin and it just tries to charge me before I've even purchased anything. Hope I can figure it out. Anyway love your videos. Really inspiring.
