After I took acid I was thinking constantly while my mind felt really open and one of the things I realized was that love and understanding and peace are one in the same and that if you knew a persons entire story, if you knew every detail of their inner and outer life either with a person or the world communities at large their would never be any way to be angry, jealous or resentful. If you had a complete understanding of any given person or event, only complete love would be left. Therefor these negative emotions are a direct result of a lack of understanding

The cookie thief story is not Jay Shetty's. He should have given credit to Valerie Cox. The Cookie Thief by Valerie Cox A woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She hunted for a book in the airport shops, bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop. She was engrossed in her book but happened to see, that the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be. . .grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene. So she munched the cookies and watched the clock, as the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock. She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by, thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eye.” With each cookie she took, he took one too, when only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half. He offered her half, as he ate the other, she snatched it from him and thought… oooh, brother. This guy has some nerve and he’s also rude, why he didn’t even show any gratitude! She had never known when she had been so galled, and sighed with relief when her flight was called. She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate. She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat, then she sought her book, which was almost complete. As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise, there was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes. If mine are here, she moaned in despair, the others were his, and he tried to share. Too late to apologize, she realized with grief, that she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.

Why some people are so negative? Jay never said he created the story; he mentioned several times "reference", "study", "research", ... He only said he made the video based on his study; I didn't hear anything where he said he invented the story ... that's just me ... Of course all of the wisdoms have been there before, thousand years/centuries ago, written everywhere; he just used the modern media to spread it ... that's why he is the modern monk ... I don't see anything wrong with it ... why don't you spread something good like him? On the other hand, even if he ever starts to take credits for everything, I believe one day he'll realise that it would be the beginning of his end. I do not think I wish people like him who are sharing positive conscience get pulled down by people who are doing nothing but only try to bring down the others.

Danke Russell! One thing that in my opinion makes you stand out as an interviewer is: You are not afraid to ask any highly skeptical question that comes to your mind regardless of how you expect the other person to answer your question. You don't let any bullshit talk slip though. Everytime Jay says something that sounds plausible and is a great story you cut through it with a great question and make Jay answer it very honestly because he doesn't know what else to say than the truth.

It's an interesting thing. How many people seem to think one must "transcend" their humanity in order to become full-fledged humans. It's been said time and again by many great minds including the Buddha that this (renunciation) is not the way. As Ram Dass says, "you're here on Earth as a human, just like you once were in school, why don't you try and take the curriculum?". Live, laugh, love. Those ARE the positive emotions we are all striving for. Renouncing everything that inspires those emotions is entirely unnecessary, they're what we're looking for! The problem is in attachment and craving. You don't NEED all those to be a full-fledged alive human being, but they're wonderful when they do occur! Sure you will naturally grow into a state of equanimity if you continue the spiritual path until old age, but when you're young, energetic, ambitious, nothing wrong with that!

Hi Jay, I was disappointed that you didn’t give credit for the motif of the cookie story, because it didn’t just arise from your imagination or inspiration or love of chocolate. That said, I know it can be hard to remember or identify where you got your ideas from so here it is and now you can credit it in future. The Cookie Thief" is a poem written by Valerie Cox and made famous by Dr. Wayne Dyer's reading of it, and featured in Chicken Soup For The Soul. www.chickensoup.com/book-story/35305/the-cookie-thief. Many videos have been made telling the story of the Cookie Thief dating back to 1998 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKbKZZKLo8uJb5I. The credit of the story does not belong to Jay Shetty. It is a false attempt by him to own the idea or inspiration for the telling or video production of the exact same story. Why would a person who has stated in interviews that he questions his intentions everyday not give credit to the author and creator of this story rather than attempting to pass it off as his creative search for a way to illustrate our biases and inspired by studies that highlight our biases? The actual story of the cookie thief perhaps owes its origin to Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish”, 1984, where he tells the same story based on his own real experience set in a train station and involving a biscuit rather than a cookie. There are also similar stories that have appeared in British newspapers in the 1970s. www.patrickwanis.com/the-cookie-thief-twisted-assumptions-judgments-perception/

You articulated so much of what i am currently going through, in terms of finding physical, mental and spiritual alignment along with faith without, necessarily, religion. Love you Russell and thanks for introducing me to Jay. And Jay,thankyou for your words on meditation,. michele partridge I’m a huge fan of Wayne Dyer and have heard a lot of his speeches, I loved how he never tried to pass of the ideas that he presented as his own and always credited the right people when talking... I’m a huge fan of Jay Shetty and was a little confused when I heard he thought about this because of his love for cookies... he didn’t mention Valerie or that maybe he’d heard this concept before anywhere else... it was weird to me... 😳

Journey Blues Thank you for acknowledging this also ......its just didn’t sit right with me either - I feel Jay should have given credit to Valerie and perhaps say he had been inspired by this then it would have made so much more sense and a great idea to make it into a mini film - there is room for all of us to express and we all get inspiration from others - I only noticed it as that particular poem had become one of my favourites read beautifully by Wayne x namaste 🙏 Michele xx

@@ivanamicimici interesting that you noticed that. I noticed something was off when I saw Jim Kwik interview him. I thought it was the concepts that he discussed were too basic, and I was being too intellectual and judgemental. But I feel the same way when I see him. His ego is appearing IMO, through the cracks. I expect he does mean well, but he doesn't have the real truth inside him... We can all be guilty of this, but humility is the essence of wisdom, and taking credit for others work, or not acknowledging them is not humble. So sad to see trends run away like this un-questioned (until now)

The unpacking is the key. As a society we use words and talk about ideals and practices, but we do not show people how that looks as they walk through a day in the real life. I get that we are all unique in our walk, but people need to be able to apply the concepts. The thoughts must move beyond thoughts to a true vision and if a person has never lived in that world, they can not visualize it.

Breathe in & Breathe out - the perfect duality of our experience. Only this little process gives us the possibility to judge. So the amount of breaths we take, determine the quality of our judgements and no-judgements. Judgements are always bound to point out a thing or a just a part of reality, but it can never grasp reality as whole, otherwise it would contradict its own nature. That is why breath, can lead you to the experience of no-judgement - simple because you remain in non-duality, as it is. Thank you Russel & Jay. I am so grateful that so many of us help illuminating this age. I as well made it mission to offer tools for self-development and well-being to everyone. Wishing everyone a blessed week :)

With all due respect, merely breath work is not Vipassana mate. Vipassana is a much deeper technique that focuses on the interconnections between mind & body which can be experienced directly by disciplined attention to the physical sensations that form the life of the body, and that continuously interconnect and condition the life of the mind. This technique is taught at 10-day residential courses, held at various centres around the world. :)

The reason why material things don’t bring happiness is because of the continual aim to obtain these things. It’s a constant source of stress in our lives. Part of Awakening is basically saying wait a minute, why do I need all this stuff? I’ve been working hard all my life I have all the stuff and I’m not happy. And who says I have to have all the stuff? It’s breaking out of that illusion. If you let go of all that materialistic stuff, it’s like lifting 1000 pounds off of your back. You will never find the freedom and peace and joy that it gives you in the material world. The relationship to materialism is akin to Stockholm syndrome. Think about it.
