My second car was a 64 850 Mini, I’m 6’ 2” and fit in it OK but I was a bit skinnier then. Fabulous little car, drove all over the UK in it on camping holidays. The sense of freedom and independence it gave me as a young lad was amazing.

We drove our 79 mini 3100 miles to Italy last year, from UK to France, Belgium, Germany to the Nurburgring, Switzerland, to Imola and back via Turin for some Italian job fun, the mini performed really well, and with mx5 seats it was comfortable, all for the Italian job charity with other minis, a great adventure that I would recommend for any classic mini petrolhead.

So cool for you to experience a real Mini. I owned a Mini Moke for a number of years as a second (Fun) car and still regret letting it go. It was a 1275 moke California and a blast to drive. Smiles per miles or, in my case, km's.

Great Video! Your smiles say it all. Classic Mini‘s are great fun. I‘m Lucky to own a Ferrari 360 and a Classic Mini 1000 side by side. The 360 was my Dream car for 20 Years, and the Mini was my First car as a daily 20 years ago … which, of course , rusted away right under me bottom….got one back and I love it just as I did 20 years ago. The big surprise to me: the funfactor, the direct steering, the drivingexperience, and the smile… i find the 360 and the Mini surprisingly similair! apart from speed and power, of course. And, ok, sound…😬 I love them both. Looking forward to your next video!

My sister has one of the 2000 ‘Cooper Classic’ models like the one in the video. It’s arguably the best all round Mini they ever made. They MPI system makes it so useable and it fires up instantly, even when it’s been stood all winter. Just a shame that right at the end of production they were so prone to rust due to the cheaper materials

My first car was a 91 Mini Neon 998cc, (im now 39 so lilely one of the last of the my first car was a mini brigagade) the thing took me everywhere, Many London to Brighton runs, biggest was 1000 miles in a week, nothing drives like an original Mini what it looses in power it makes up for in flat out handling, used to love winding BMW drivers up on the back roads, i miss it and the mini comunity dearly.

These cars defy physics, they are actually larger on the inside than they are on the outside, kinda like the Tardis. The new Minis dwarf them. Back in the early '70s I kept a Mini panel van in London for when we visited her parents. It slept two... I'd love to have one now!

I used to own and drive a Cooper S back in 1970. Slightly tuned engine etc but also adjustable suspension with negative camber front & rear. The reason why the steering felt sharper than the later model was that the Cooper S used a special high ration rack. it also had the "rifle bolt" remote control gearchange. They were brilliant to drive but are ludicrously over priced now !

I love how the Rally’s steering wheel was floating around during the instructions period, not to be outdone by the “comfort” seat belts 😊 The light weight, toss ability, and exhaust note reminded me of my TR3 from around fifty years ago. Bye bye GT3?

Ah Sam, what a trip!! Fair play to you for picking up the little quirks cars of that era have. I bought a 1968 Cooper that was used as a rally car and converted it back into a road car. I am still learning how to try and get the thing started on the first turn of the key, trying to balance throttle, choke, thinking how many Hail Mary's I have to say 😅😂 I would have paid to see Tony sitting in the passenger seat for the trip, he would have been as miserable as anything. Yes cars like this don't have any mod cons, or sometimes, cons even. But they offer so much of an experience, I love driving my Cooper, barely turning the wheel and the car just dives for the corners, as if it's telepathic. I bet that Rally Mini would have been serious fun, if you could give it a real rip down some of those mountain roads. The extra lightness and power would transform the experience. Oh, and would love to see much more of Amy. What a brilliant co-driver/driver and she seemed to be a really sound and easy going person as well. Perfect for a road trip and extra bonus points, as she also owns a Mini 👍
