A long time ago, probably 15 years ago I told someone I didn't like OoT and he straight up called me a liar. Not even as a bit, he genuinely thought it was impossible to dislike that game. Full on delusional. My brain blue screened at the accusation, and thus was my first step into insane fandoms full of unhinged people. But it was an important interaction as it serves as the reason why I will never yell at someone for not liking the same things as me because god help me I cannot STAND that shit.

I like OoT, but it's one of those games where the rabid fanboys will absolutely ruin it. No matter what genuine flaws you point out they'll just get whiny and insult you for insisting their beloved game is bad at all. Link to the Past fanboys are just as bad if not worse, but not even Zelda fanboys get as toxic as the ones for New Vegas, Dark Souls 1, Final Fantasy 7, or Undertale. 😩

Difference between geninue fans and "fanboys/girls" essentially! ALL Fandoms will have that "Fandumb" part of them! You only truly love a game when you can admit that they are pretty flawed! Yet you love to play them anyway! I mean I'll admit compared to Diablo 2 and 3, I actually liked D3 and I played D2 to HELL! But it likely came down to limited access to the PC as I rarely got laptops that worked D2 properly, didn't get too much time to ENJOY it on the house PC before someone needed to use it! ETC! Where Diablo 3 once I got it on the PS3 and got it again on my Switch when that came out! I could put it in and play! But I will admit there were things I DISLIKED about D3 that I loved about D2 which is, it's pretty restrictive, I saw no problem with the Health Potion system and have a love hate with how it's handled in D3! I can like D3 abit since I use to RESTRICTIVE Class system and builds! And at FIRST I did like FREE Respec in D3! But I'll say I like limited Respec if done WELL like Borderlands as they make them EXPENSIVE that abusing can result in you STUCK with a crappy build to build up that money again to Respec! So you still have that "make your choice WORK" without the fear of "starting from the beginning" feel! Not that I'll joss it, I just don't have love for it too much! I gave ONE example of a game I like but others hate (and frankly never got the HATE for loving a DIFFERENT entry in a series! As a big fan of the Fire Emblem Series! And well you see it in Zelda too! You will ALWAYS find WARS between who has the "better game" when I feel you're better off just playing the game and not wasting that time fighting over who is better! "YOUR BOTH BEAUTIFUL DARLINGS!" Heaven help you if you DARE to say "I love and play BOTH" as they seem to go RABID on you) Only 3D Zelda I beat ironically was Twilight Princess! I was a fan of Link to the Past so 64, MM and Wind Waker were not my jam! Played abit on demo's (remember when stores use to have a game system set to play the games LOL). But after that! I tried 64 and yeah it had it's ups and it's downs! And okay game but I can't look down on it too much because you have to go into playing an OUTDATED game knowing it won't have the QoL stuff that was in it's SUCCESSORS I LIKED BETTER! Frankly look at the "Gen 1" Cultists of Pokemon! There's ALOT wrong with alot of their "JUSTIFICATIONS" to why it's the best (such as HATING when they "GASP" actually separated Special into two stats and even gave abilities differences on which stat they take power from so Psychics' aren't OVERPOWERED because SPECIAL both protects AND empowers them! I swear people get ANNOYING when their "OP" build gets "NERFED" when a good balance is made! I get the anger if it's DONE too much! But I ESPECIALLY don't get it if it's say something like their only OP because of a BUG/EXPLOIT that was DOOMED to be fixed eventually! Why complain you knew it was coming! Especially when you SMUGLY show off PUBLICALLY on the Forums that the DEVELOPERS ARE ALSO LOOKING AT AS WELL! Snitching on yourself! Some people are just idiots by default)

ocarina was the most adventurous game i had ever played at the time. the size of the world was bonkers to me. seeing a volcano way in the distance and being able to actually go there was pretty great. each dungeon had a different vibe, lots of memorable set pieces. you spent a lot of time talking about combat mechanics and incentive and gear, which makes sense from your arpg perspective, but i was most impressed by the exploration and sense of adventure. it's easy to pick apart now since the game has been utterly dissected and there's no mystery left. but for me experiencing the game as a young lad it was mind blowing and i didnt have any expectations of how much content there was.

I find it hilarious that someone tries to make some big brain deep reading into it though, like... come on, it's a Zelda game! It's not gonna win any prizes for it's deep lore or amazing writing. Like every boss fight in any game its all about learning the correct patters and weaknesses to exploit. The story, puzzles and exploration is far more interactive and requires more trial and error than botw and totk. The game is incredible and embodies what every game should have. The enemies that you can ignore are generally fun to fight plus some of them you would do better not to ignore. The only bad part is the aim for the mini games due to limitations for the system of its time

It's still good. I'm playing thru it right now with fucking touch screen controls and it still controls well. If you have problems with combat and are complaining about battles, that's more a skill issue than the game, especially if you have a modern controller in your hands. It's deserving of the praise it gets. It's a masterpiece. Give it the reverence it deserves. The impact it had on the industry is still being felt today with the ability to target enemies and large field design(in 3D). Arin Hanson and this guy are just being tards. The game is too easy, but he's also complaining about hard parts of the game like some bosses, temples, and archery while on horseback(again it's not the controls, that's actually just hard for everyone). "The game is lonely, there's no one to talk to..." Bro is on that bullshit now. It's the fucking N64, not the PS5. There's plenty of people to talk to, and you're probably the type of player who skips thru all dialogue like Arin Hanson does...

@sakuyaizayoi1945 6 ай бұрын
@@WolvesBaseballNine You are fighting demons rn, no one mentioned Arin Hanson or struggling. Seer even, absolutely correctly, said the game is for 8 year olds, since it really isn't difficult in the slightest. The controls are, for a fact, clunky. And it didn't age well, it did a lot for the industry when it came out, but if that is something we have to consider, then Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy 4 would still be in every chart.
@WolvesBaseballNine
@WolvesBaseballNine 6 ай бұрын
@@sakuyaizayoi1945 You're being dumb and hypocritical. If it's so easy why are you complaining about combat, controls and temples? Almost all Nintendo games are for kids but are challenging and engaging enough for adults to enjoy.. Complaining about the difficulty of this game is so retarded. There are some hard parts in the game, but no one praises it because it's too easy or really difficult. It's the whole package we love. When you start disrespecting and dissecting it this much, you just sound like an someone who doesn't get "it". Doesn't understand why this game is so loved and received all those perfect scores back in the day(deserved). It still holds up all these years later which is remarkable. It's the first 3D Zelda. So many games didn't transition well from 2D to 3D back then, but this game hit it out of the park. Again I'm replaying this game on my phone with touch controls and am not having a problem with the controls. You just suck if you can't control Link properly with a controller. None of what you say is fact and many people to this day do in fact give praise and reverence to Chrono trigger and FF4...
@WolvesBaseballNine
@WolvesBaseballNine 6 ай бұрын
@@sakuyaizayoi1945 I bring up Egoraptor because his critique of this game is infamous amongst gamers, but he himself is absolutely HORRENDOUS at not only OoT but also other Zelda titles. So anytime I hear someone complaining about the controls in OoT, I can't help but think of him and also completely disagree about the controls being "bad" or "clunky" or any other critique. Again let me remind you I am playing this game on my phone with touch controls and have not run into any difficulty with combat or movement. Anyone with a controller complaining about the controls in this game just makes me shake my head because the controls are tight, responsive and gives the player many options to overcome puzzles and enemies. If you took damage, it's your fault, not the controls and the example Seer uses in the video is a great showcase of this. He walks right into a wall and presses Z to try and target onto the Deku and blames the game for that? Anyone who knows how the Z targeting works knows that you need to face the enemy and wait for Navi to hover over them and turn yellow for a guaranteed LOCK ON. The game's difficulty is good and well balanced. It's not as brutal as past titles like the original Zelda's on the NES or AlttP, but it's still challenging and engaging enough for anyone to enjoy. Seer and Arin are both hypocritical when they say this game is so easy, yet they have deaths in their playthrus... If it's so easy, why don't you play a more challenging run? Like a 3 heart no bottles run? They'd probably would complain til Kingdom come if they did that... This game was revolutionary and deserving of all those perfect scores it received back in '98. The entire package(the tone, the controls, the music, the temples the boss fights, the story, the vibe)still holds up to this day. Anyone who dissects and disrespects this game this much like in this and Egoraptor video is just one of those people that doesn't get "it". What is it? It is Ocarina of freaking time. Hello. One of the best games ever made, one of the most revolutionary games ever made, a game that made the transition from 2D to 3D as good as you can possibly imagine for 1998. In 2024 is is the best Zelda still? That's another conversation, but is it still a masterpiece? You bet your sweet bum it is lol.

That's awesome and everyone is so happy you love it. The great thing about objectivity is there are standards we measure things by and standards change over time. This game didn't age well by modern standards. Was it groundbreaking for it's time? Yeah of course it was and no one doubts that. Is it fun to play today? Absolutely not. I recently played and finished Ocarina of Time and you're right, the movement is complete ass. I noticed that from my first hour of gameplay. I don't know if it was a problem with my emulator (Project64), but all the other N64 games I've emulated all control fluently and like normal games. Ocarina feels like it has this weird input delay on movement. And there's a LOT of first-person aiming involved in playing the game and it's just atrocious, truly one of the worst-controlling things I've played in any game ever. The aim is super sensitive, with it feeling like trying to aim with like 3000 DPI on a mouse (except worse because it's a thumbstick), and worst of all, the vertical aiming controls are inverted with no way to disable it in-game. "But that was just the standard control scheme for the time, no games had the option to toggle inverted controls." First off that's not an argument. If something is ass, it's ass, even if that was the standard at the time. And there were other games, even on the N64, that came with the option to toggle inverted controls. Also on the subject of controls, nobody ever seems to mention that the entire D-pad is bound to nothing in OoT. That's just 4 buttons on a controller that already had very limited button real-estate completely unused. Even for menuing, which you spend a lot of time doing over the course of the game and just feels sticky and imprecise with the thumbstick. Good game with a nice, connected-feeling world and charming art style and characters, but someone has to be truly cracked-out on crack to call it "the best game of all time."

the best part about cocarina of time is that people who've still not played it get to reap the rewards that came with it being immeasurably overrated, the PC port lets you tweak nearly damn everything to make the game less bad and there's 10 trillion glitches to let you ignore whatever else the game drags you down with. this makes oot more of a zelda-colored sandbox than a competent game, but nintendo actually solved that latter option already, it's called Wind Waker

There's another Paper Mario challenge you could do, beating it without getting the Lucky Star, you know, the item that enables action commands. It is possible to skip it with a simple Out of Bounds trick to get past the disguised koopa bros in Toad town.

2:24 This mindset is why most games now are standardized garbage. Maybe engage with the encounters because that is part of the game, rather than there needing to be a forced reason for fighting. It's meant to be fun.

I like MM more than OoT, if someone hate the time factor then fair, surely that would damper the game for you but it offers something for people who don't mind it and ideally loves it. OoT though? Randomizers aside I would play LttP first as for me at least it is more or less the same but with less cutscenes. I'm aware Faster Quest mod exist for OoT but LttP basically have that built in AND have other things I like. Hyrule Field is neat but doesn't save OoT once you learn there is nothing of value in it.

See, OoT is a game I only really like to play randomized. I don't care about the awful characters or the wooden-as-hell dialogue or the bland-as-plain-bread cinematography of the cutscenes (you CANNOT fight me on that one- it's an objective fact that Oot's cutscenes use boring and uninteresting camera work)- just cut out all that and turn the game world into one big puzzle that's fun to solve. So yeah. Randomized? Oot's a blast. A vanilla playthrough? Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I gotta say xD... (now that I'm 8 minutes into this review). I had a couple of laughs because I dont mind agreeing with alternate viewpoints and finding any take great from another perspective (whether I agree or not.. man I'd love to meet people like myself. I did meet a few, but they're.. rarer than politicians that care about their Country). So I just wanted to say that you criticize "not from that time" a lot, but did the same mistake when defending the link to the past (which I loved as much as oot, but yea).. the nostalgia from discovery from a younger self is hard to dismiss [unless you've played link to the past recently.. then I'd have to retract this last statement :P]. Thank you!

Ocarina of Time is my second favorite game, but I agree with this video so much. Half of the items being near useless, for example. I wanna see a 3D Zelda game that only has a sword and shield. No items, no magic. Just go real in depth with the swordplay, and make fighting even the normal enemies interesting. Zelda 2 is pretty close to what I'm thinking of, but 2D of course.
@xSilentZeroXx
@xSilentZeroXx 6 ай бұрын
So... Breath of the Wild, basically. Although that game didn't go in with the swordplay and failed to make even the normal enemies interesting, so I guess not. You ever play Dark Souls?
@RandomPerson964
@RandomPerson964 6 ай бұрын
@@xSilentZeroXx Not really Breath of the Wild. Skyward Sword is a step closer to what I'm thinking. I'm talking about things like the stances you take. Weird techniques such as halfswording, which is holding a sword by its blade and striking with the hilt as an improvized mace to defeat armor. Since Ocarina of Time's combat is based on chanbara, maybe base this hypotetical game on kenjutsu. Or perhapse techniques for whatever kind of sword the Master Sword is supposed to be. Longsword, I guess? Bastard Sword? I have played and enjoyed Dark Souls, but it's only superficially similar to Zelda. DS is basically a trek from bossfight to bossfight. I would still want Zelda elements of exploring an open world and dungeon crawling. Just more focused. That's the key word: focus. DS has bows, magic, and some items, I wouldn't waste a second of development time creating any of that.

I agree, I think is game is extremely overrated. I think the majority of people saying this game is the best game ever have some sort of nostalgia for this game. I prefer the 3D Zelda games over the 2D ones, but for me this game is the worst 3D Zelda game and I would rather play a 2D Zelda then play this game ever again. Majoras Mask is in a similar boat for me, I think it’s better, but I would still rather play Windwaker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Breath of The Wild, or Tears of The Kingdom. It’s revolutionary sure, but it is far from great, and it just isn’t the best game ever. I remember when I played the 3Ds version of the game, I was glad once it ended because it meant I didn’t have to play it anymore. With many other Zelda games, I was sad when they ended, I wanted more. I would love to love this game, but I have never been able to.
