There's texture from the blue spraypaint. You can clearcoat afterwards, then lightly wet sand and polish to get rid of that texture.

I plan on doing a restoration of my SNES that my dad smashed when I was a kid. I want to paint it because the shell has holes that need to be filled and painted over. In my opinion, I think a shell should only be painted if it has cracks or holes that you patch up, and painting it will cover the repair work.
@princegroove4 жыл бұрын
Jarod Schultz Did he smash it out of spite? 🤣
@Jarod_Schultz4 жыл бұрын
@@princegroove Yes, I came home from school one day, back in the 90's, and wanted to play games and my TV wasn't working right, so I would hit it on the side thinking that would help, so for some reason I gave it a shove and it hit the wall, and put a hole in the drywall. So my dad decided to punish me by smashing my SNES. He bought me a new one a few months later, but I also kept the first one even though it didn't work. I guess I'm sentimental. But I'm glad I kept it, because years later, I became interested in restoration.

That soldering tip though. You should clean the cartridge connector with sand paper and use a paper clip to push the contacts closer to each other. That way no more blowing on the games and no more freezes if you bump the console.

Awesome video. I much prefer the model 1 Genesis personally, due to it's superior sound. Still though, those who haven't played the Sega Genesis are missing out a library of great games and a controller that's actually extremely comfortable.

The bad sound actually began with Model 1 revision VA7, was carried over to Model 2 revisions VA0 to VA2.3 and was made "less worse" in Model 2 revisions VA3 and VA4.

@RWL20123 жыл бұрын
As far as official Sega goes, the Master System Converter II can be imported from Europe or Australia and works on the Genesis 2. It's inconvenient to use the same Mega Drive / Genesis for Master System and 32X though anyway, because it won't run Master System games with the 32X installed.

Don’t waste your time using a bud to clean the pcb....simply use water and a brush. Then dry it using a hair dryer and leave for a day or two to dry naturally. I have done this with many arcade pcb’s and even monitor chassis. Works a treat and boards come up like new 😋

The only thing I would have done different is to buff that clear coat. I imagine you cleared it too right? You have that orange peel look going and if you buff clear coat really well, you can get it to a glass finish, especially if you wet sand with 1000 grit wet sandpaper then buff with a wax.

Very good painjob, but it pains me a bit to see a perfectly fine original shell for a console that is getting rarer by the day get painted over. I think a good alternative is just getting a reproduction shell of the console and paint it over that, that way you can always revert the console to original if you want.
