This game just got an English fan translation. So we can all now enjoy the great music while playing the game in English!

Used as introduction VS Robotnik... altough only the first seconds are used, sadly. Like the password music (memories of puyo / try out / 6:12) who was unexplicably and sadly shortened.

It's funny how they put the opening theme to the second Madou Monogatari game in a port of the first game, but I'm glad they did, because it sounds awesome.

Lass Ellie I’m just surprised how neglected II-III are compared to I. II and III AFAIK only have 3 versions (MSX2 OG, PC98, Game Gear) but I is almost on every platform in early 90’s Japan. You have MSX2, PC98, and Game Gear, along with SNES (technically different game), PC Engine CD, and this version.
@boynextdoorman7 жыл бұрын
Memories of Puyo Puyo on this version (6:11) is my favorite one of all renditions.
@lassellie57706 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate that they started out "OPEN THE DOOR" in a key similar to the MSX2 original, and changes to the PC98 version's key. I bet this theme is nostalgic for Madou Monogatari fans.

Hmm, yeah, its great, but this time I feel the SNES version's actually better than the Genesis one. I dunno, it just flows a lot better than this version. Of course, there's probably a even better version of this from another version of Madou Monogatari, but still lol
@lassellie57706 жыл бұрын
@@DixieChix I really like the the SNES version's sound, but the golf club hitting noise gets pretty annoying, and the Genesis version changes up the drumset part throughout the song.
@DixieChix6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I actually appreciate the MD version battle theme a lot more now, but the SNES one is definitely not bad either; I'd say I rank them both equally nowadays Also, by "golf club hitting noise", you mean the sonar-like sounds of the SNES song right? I actually really like how that sounds IMO; it's a bit weird to hear tho since it's not really for any underwater battles, but it definitely helps to give the tension the theme needs; the drums actually help out a lot to give it more tension too, where the toms from the MD version sound really jarring, and just makes it sound janky I do like how the MD version's patches and FM drums sound tho; they are actually pretty high-quality, and really shows how Compile knew how to use the system at that point, and the extra drum notes are hard to get used to, but when you get used to them, they're pretty nice additions lol

I noticed that some of the tracks in this game are also present in other Madou Monogatari games/ports (like Sound Test 22) I'll list all the ones I know of, as well as the timestamps. 17:27 Poisoned!! (used in GG MM1) 18:04 18:56 Decline of MP & HP (MSX2 MM1/2/3 - Low HP) 19:53 Game Over (MSX2 MM1/2/3) 22:13 Main BGM 2 - Basement (MSX2 MM1 - Basement) 25:55 Main BGM 3 - Floors 11 & 12 (MSX2 MM1 - Break Through) I don't know much about the MSX2 MM games, so I don't really know where "Break Through" is used. 30:49 Escape! (MSX2 MM1 - Danger!) 37:18 Unknown - S. Test 9 (Even slower variant of 18:04 - 18:56 is also a slower variant) 38:51 Unknown - S. Test 22 (MSX2 MM1/2/3 (Not sure which one) - Unknown) 39:07 Unknown - S. Test 23 (MSX2 MM1/2/3 (Again, not sure which one) - Flute)

For the Unknown Sound Tests tracks, Number 9 and 22 are used in the PC98 version of the game. ST9 is used when you're low on both Health and Magic, which even though that can happen in the Genesis game, it doesn't play in that circumstance. ST22 is a track that was used to signify you were under the Ghost Possession status effect, which doesn't happen in the Genesis game. However, I can say that ST23 *is* used in this version of the game, as when you use the あんみんの笛 (Sleep Flute) either in or out of combat, the sound plays.

Old comment, I know, but does this game have a sound test? I can't find any info on that (probably because it's JP exclusive, got ported to everything, and English web mixes in a lot of Puyo results)
@allpurposenothing4 жыл бұрын
As of graduating Kindergarten with a perfect score of 100 yesterday, I can confirm that a sound test is unlockable. Not sure if it's for beating the game or if it's for beating it 100%, but in the English translation you end up with a third main menu option called "Present". Could probably upload my ROM save file if you're still interested.
@FullHitPoints4 жыл бұрын
@@allpurposenothing There's an English translation of the Genesis game? If there is, I haven't heard of it. The only MadoMono games I know of that have English translations are the Game Gear versions, and Big Kindergarten Kids for the SNES.
@allpurposenothing4 жыл бұрын
@@FullHitPoints Yep! Just released a few months ago: www.romhacking.net/translations/5388/ It's super polished as well. I was always confused when I saw the Game Gear version had a translation and not the Genesis, but I guess this is essentially a different game with a new dungeon layout, more characters, etc.
@licentioushowler34004 жыл бұрын
@@allpurposenothing If I were to guess why the Game Gear game got targeted for translation first, it's probably because it's one of the few platforms where Compile actually completed the trilogy instead of just releasing Madou 1, and by the time somebody set out to make that first GG translation happen around 2010, there were plenty of tools and knowledge base for people to work on SMS/Genesis hacking, unlike say, the PC-98 versions (especially for English 1st language folks). I know many of these versions of Madou 1 can be wildly different content and sometimes borderline different genres of games, but it's probably a little more exciting to make a translation with the broad goal of introducing an audience to a big story--Arle's story. And it appears the GG versions mostly deliver that like you'd expect.

I came here because I noticed that the PSG is absent in most other recordings on YT, and while I'm glad to have found this, I noticed that the PSG is a little bit quieter than my Model 1 Genesis! Didn't realize that was a difference between hardware revisions. Either which volume, this OST bops though.
@DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL4 жыл бұрын
PSG volume is probably the most inconsistent thing between models, or even between consoles. Some of it has to do with the filtering in the audio circuit changing the perceived volume of it too.
@licentioushowler34004 жыл бұрын
@@DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL Man, that's wild. Probably was a bit of a headache for developers that took their music seriously and really wanted to make use of the PSG (especially that Noise channel) lol. Thanks for commenting and doing your thing btw. : )

This is a remake of the first chapter of Madou monogatari 1-2-3 which was released before puyo puyo. Although it only barely qualifies as a remake given how completely different it is to the original in so many ways.
