Sega Master System. The Games That Defined The System.

The Sega Master System was the first system from Sega in the U.S. and it was a glorious machine with some amazing games. I loved my NES but definitely wanted the Master System based on the games that I saw. This video is about the memories I have with certain games and the system in general. Enjoy!!!!

Phantasy Star was and still is such an incredible game. My dad and i had such a good time playing and finally beating this great game in the late 80's.

I really enjoyed this. Master System was my first home console. And still my favorite. All games mentioned were fantastic. I'll also throw in Golvellius & Wonder Boy In Monster Land as some top picks of mine.

I absolutely loved SEGA they were bringing the arcade home to everyone. The reason I will always be team SEGA no matter what. They gave me some of best video game playing memories.

when i saw the space harrier tv commercial i knew i had to get the sms. must've played that game everyday for months. Transbot was the only game that my dad would play with me, so I have a fond memory of that too. Another favorite game of mine was Zillion that I played so much I could pass eventually pass it in 30 minutes. Good times

For me, this blew the NES away. AKiMW, Fantasy Zone 1& 2, Shinobi, Wonder Boy games etc,. Aah, the joy.

The master system was my first console and i loved it. Here in the uk it was bigger than the Nes for a long time. Hang on, the ninja, sonic 1 and golden axe warrior were my fave go to titles too

My Christmas 1986 Master System is still in my closet. Tested it during the pandemic and it still works. My kids loved playing Rocky3 and the Donald Duck game.

I remember playing the hang on arcade too my man! with the actual full size bike! My dad too! Rest his soul! back then we used to go to arcade and play that side by side!

My pack in title was hang on on card when I got the mighty master system back in the day. Have fond memories of Action Fighter, R-Type, out run, Alex Kidd in miracle world that I purchased on cartridge 🙄. Such a brilliant system with a really happy sound chip that is easily recognisable to the ear by anyone who owned one back in the day. (Yes I still have one to this day)

For me, as an adult when this system was released, I always liked an underdog. It was a great system with the 3d glasses, the light gun, the horrifying controllers. Retro Gaming awesomeness young lad.

This is so...I'm gonna do it....rad! I started gaming in 1986 with the Nes and Master System. Sure, I loved Super Mario Brothers, but the Master System was where the cool kids played (I thought). Plus, the system was just drop-dead gorgeous when it was first released. There was no other console that looked as serious about playing games as the Master System. Shortly after getting my two consoles, I went to an arcade for the first time. Now, this was an incredible experience and a curse. The reason it was a curse was it showed me how far behind we were to the arcades. I wanted the spectacle of the arcades in my home and couldn't understand why my brand new consoles couldn't do it (I was 6). It is the reason I was a casual gamer during the 3rd generation. No, the console that gave me what I was looking for was the Sega Genesis in 1989. That is a story for another time... Addendum- My parents were divorced and always in perpetual competition with one another. Hence, why the Christmas of '86 I got a huge crash course in gaming. Here's what's interesting... My mom bought the Nes with the two controllers and lightgun. My dad didn't think I would get into the lightgun games and bought me the Powerbase Set. It came with Hang-On and Astro Warriors. In my eyes, he made the right decision. He also picked up a copy of Teddy Boy because he thought the cards were neat. Again, it was a big win for my dad! I loved that game so much. My first three games for the Master System was Astro Warriors, Hang-On, and Teddy Boy.

I remember I begged my parents to get me an SMS early before Christmas so for weeks all I had was the Hang-On/Safari Hunt cartridge plus the built in snail-maze game. Hang-On/Safari Hunt were good but short because they were basically just showcase games for what the SMS could do. After a few weeks of agony I finally got Alien Syndrome, a great longer game with actual end bosses. I have a special bond with Alien Syndrome because of that😊. I also though Sega should of made Wonder Boy the mascot. That series was better than Alex Kidd

@pinebarrenpatriot8289 I agree 100%. Wonder Boy was twice the character Alex Kidd was. Not to mention, all of Wonder Boy's games were actually good. Oh, and Alien Syndrome in 1986 was freaking great. Yes, it isn't as good as the arcades, but it looked so much better than what Nintendo was doing at the time. But oh man, was the game hard as nails.

Love and grew up with my master system here in Australia my first games were Wonder Boy , Double Dragon , Space Harrier , so many great memories thank you for the great video

I had all of the games shown in the video, as well as the following: Shinobi, Outrun, Thunderblade, Choplifter, Rampage, Double Dragon, Wonder Boy on Monster Land, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Zillion, Wonder 3 the Dragon's Trap, Psycho Fox, Kenseiden, AfterBurner, Rambo, Golvellius Valley of Doom... There are plenty of games for a part 2 and 3.

The SMS is still one of the best game systems EVER and it is because a lot of its games are just FUN ! I consider Ghost House, Space Harrier, and Phantasy Star games worth buying the System for. I collected games and consoles and the SMS if I could only keep one is the winner even over my Atari's PlayStations and anything Nintendo put out. I still play the soundtracks to this gem today! Shinobi, Rastan, Penguin Land, Kenseiden and Golvellius. Also have fond memories of that wrestling game with my bro and Spy Vs Spy. Last note the SMS Space Harrier was way better than the Space harrier that the Sega Genesis got and I like it better than the arcade. same for Rampage !! 8 bit better than 16 bit and arcade!! Thanks for the memories!!!

I'm very fond of The Sega master system. There were so many great games on this console ! Some of the greatest ones : Super hang on (I finished it, it was too easy), Kenseiden (difficult but wonderful adventure), captain silver (a little bit too short), golvellius (difficult as hell but fantastic musics), golden axe warrior (Zelda clone, very good), Y's (very difficult, managed to finish it, great musics), psycho fox (fantastic platformer, a little bit too easy). These were the games I remember the most. The SMS paved the way for an even greater system, the Megadrive !

The way you feel about the master system is the way I felt about the turbo graphix 16! I didn't have one but I wanted one so bad because nobody else had one but honestly nobody in my hometown sold the damn thing! And I have not played that until I was an adult and that was only on virtual consoles.

I got my Master System the day after I got my Nes in 1986. The Master System games that I loved were... 1. Rastan 2. Double Dragon 3. Miracle Warriors 4. Teddy Boy 5. Phantasy Zone 6. Phantasy Zone 2 7. Phantasy Star

I had the NES and then my friend Raul got the sega master system. He spent the night, and I used the power adapter from the NES, and it blew out the master system. I felt so bad about it. Later, I asked him if I could have his broken system. He gave it to me, and I sent it out to get repaired. I was so happy when it was delivered to me. I loved Space Harrier, Phantasy star, zillion, Miracle Warriors, Alez kid, the ninja, Wonder boy, Hang on.

Great video, I was the same I didn't want a nes everyone had one. I didn't want a commodore everyone had one. I had a master system and amstrad cpc

GREAT console. Wonderboy 2 (In Monsterland) might be my favorite video game on any console. But my advice is stick with the original SMS library. Its fantastic but the SMS doesnt handle the later Genesis ports too well.

Youre parents must have been verry verry rich in the 80's. I had a second hand NES wich i had to sell allong with other stuff so i could buy a SNES. And i had to share that SNES with my sister 😢

For every Master System game that held up even into the 90s there were 10 on the NES that did. The highlights were almost all better arcade ports (except of early 80s titles where the NES did quite well) and next gen demakes (of which the NES got few, mostly bootlegs)
