Hi VGE, thanks for coverage, I'm always checking the news with you, PCN and Lu. I was able to grab a Mr PI set back in November (2nd batch) and got an extra 128GB. I have an "original" MR FPGA I got during Covid days, which has the analog output, and MR PI offered the 2nd setup for an affordable price. So I got a dual ram setup, and just now I was looking into getting the Saturn (and other cores) that could use the 2nd 128mb ram stick. The link you provided downloads a specific version, which I cannot find on the github by myself: it's there somehow, but I can't see (only download through the link you provided). Thanks for sharing, and I hope to see it someday on the update_all script.

I have a dual RAM Triple Stack setup. Got it from MiSTer Addons. I've been pretty happy with it even though I don't find myself needing to use the extra stick of RAM in most cases. I also never had a Saturn growing up (or ANY SEGA console, for that matter). My family had Nintendo consoles, PlayStation consoles, and OG Xbox when I was young. I only truly came into Saturn last year when I bought my Triple Stack, even though I did attempt software emulation on the console a couple times beforehand, before giving up on them due to me finding them too cumbersome to use, in addition to having compatibility levels for the few games I wanted to try dipping my toes into too unsatisfactory. Ever since I got my Triple Stack I've been attempting to try out more titles on the Saturn whenever I can squeeze in the time to do so, and I've generally have a good time with it compared to software emulation. Anyway, this is great news! I was just thinking the other day how long it's been since the last Update_All build, so this should be a nice present for those who prefer to stick to that option. As for me, I've now probably got a good excuse to consider doing another run of RE1 or Deep Fear again 😂

Got a Saturn for Xmas of 96'. It was more of my little bro's gift because at the time, I was 14 years old and thought I was too cool for video games lol. Rad news! I tried the Shining dungeon crawler(Shining in the Darkness?) and there was a moment after the first dungeon where it consistently freezes, I was incapable of progressing further. If that's fixed, phew, I can continue that one where I left off! I had an N64 as a kid and picked up a PS1 around the PS2 era(PS1 is king), but I completely missed out on the Saturn. From what I've experienced on Mister so far, I prefer the Saturn to the N64. Wish it'd been a bigger success in the West! Edit: I started on dual RAM, switched to single RAM so I could output to my CRT. Wish I could have both, too bad.

Incredible! I’ve been waiting for this day, ha. Appreciate the heads-up!! With the Saturn core, is it intended to have to manually load the bios, then “insert a disc” (rom) to play games? I find sometimes I have to reset the system, as well. The PSX core seems friendlier this way.

Single ram user here. I got a Saturn during the launch in May of 95. Loved the games it had, but as a Blockbuster kid was sorely disappointed in the variety. So knowing the PlayStation was coming that September I sold my Saturn that July. While I got tons of fun out of the PS, i've always wondered if i would have enjoyed the Saturn more in the long run or not. I've owned a Model 2 Saturn with a TerraOnion Mode installed for a few years now, but MiSTer just makes things that much more convenient.

If we do update all and download the single RAM core, and then use the nightly dual-RAM, will that confuse the MiSTer or do you simply chose the one you want to play? I have never done manual cores and need to learn as I have the dual-RAM on my MiSTer. Ironically, I already had the entire Saturn library ready for this!

Nope. It confuses nothing. The core loads from the Saturn game folder whatever you throw at it. So you can have both simultaneously and run whatever you want and it just works

So right about the controller. I have the 8bitdo wireless controller and it’s perfect, when wired. I can set the controller buttons wirelessly but the games won’t see anything other than the dpad. Very strange. Otherwise the games I’ve played, Die Hard Arcade, Decathlete, Sega Rally, have been perfect. Die Hard Trilogy was only seen as a CD. I’m dual RAM

Played Saturn Bomberman for the first time last week and got stuck there for 2 hours. lol Can you do a video about where to get the dual RAM and turbo cores available on MiSTer and how to get them setup. I take it these are not in the update_all script. I wish this was an option. Some of us went with the dual RAM setup.

i don't understand this case on Taki Udon's model, are u supposed to get rid of the a/v pro card on the top to plug your second ram ? what are you supposed to do to cool it then without any fan ? do u have to buy some heatsink and go for the passive cooling option ?

I’m still confused about dual ram and update all. None of the update all cores are dual ram ? I have the setup so I have never used it if I used update all ? Can you put the Saturn dual ram core on with the other update all cores ? Is there any reason because this is the newest version ? Is there any use to my dual ram setup ?

I've had my MiSTer a year and only ever performed 'update all'. I do have a dual ram build so may as well have the dual ram Saturn core. If I drag and drop it on will it replace the single ram one? Or will it appear as its own core and I'll have to edit the settings to my liking again?

No it has a diff name so it’ll show up on your mister as a second core with dual ram in the core name

The only two cores that offer dual-RAM variants, so far as I'm aware, is the Sega Saturn and the Atari Jaguar cores. Saturn has always offered a single-RAM version... and Jaguar just got a single-RAM version yesterday. I haven't tried the single-RAM Jaguar core yet but it's on my list. Oh, so to answer your question... I don't think there are any dual-RAM cores that come through update / update_all. The N64 core has regular and turbo but no dual-RAM version.

Actually that was one of the major reasons why the Ps1 won out over the competition, the easy pirating of games. You literally just could burn them! A basically forgotten part of the console history! Basically also the reason why Windows won out, everyone was literally just copying it, Bill Gates at one point in time said that easy pirating was a strategy for them to get market share and get into businesses!
