UPDATE. After spending more and more time riding the max and not living on the third floor any more, I like the max more. My es4 started to have issues with getting up to speed off the line. It would slowly get to 12 mph and take a few blocks to finally get up to max speed. That’s just not acceptable. If you can afford the Max and can carry it up a few stairs, then I’d go with the max.

I seen a lot of people here in NYC riding the Max and I asked every single one of them how has it been holding up and everyone one of them had told me that they've been having no issues. That Es4 external battery sucks! Stick with the Max.

19:20 When the battery is low and the scooter slows down, it's not a feature to conserve the battery. It's the fact that battery voltage falls as the battery is depleted, and the lower the voltage, the lower the current in the motor. Some people even 'mod' their scooters with higher voltage batteries and controllers to get faster speeds (though it should be done responsibly, since it may overheat the motor, among other issues)

I would like the mention that if you're using the app for the MAX, there's actually a button that turns the back light on, it is NOT a reflector. But it's not a brake light, it's either on or off, in addition, they dont require you to pick up speed to start the motor, that is just the default setting within the app, you can start from a standstill if you want to do so.
@vanvredenburgh3992 жыл бұрын
I use the ES4 as a commuter (~8mi r/t) in addition to the metro rail. I use the escalator in the stations with no issue of others being able to pass me on the steps. With most of the weight (95%ish) of the ES4 in the steering column, (for me) it's easier to balance on the step without having to fold/carry it. If the escalator stops, then it's easier to just pick up by the column and carry unfolded the rest of the way. Of note, I think if the front tire is resting against prior step on the escalator, as the step begins to recede, it will detect enough resistance from the tire and stop the escalator. I've had my ES4 for ~4 years and have noticed times that it doesn't get up to full speed (Red S mode) on a full charge or has slight surges at lower speed. If I stop, turn off the ES4, restart, and begin riding again, the problem goes away. The software is all current on the ES4. While I would love to have larger tires, the form of the ES4, in my humble opinion, is easier to negotiate on public transportation than the Max or other larger scooters, given the speed and features of the ES4.

It does make sense why the throttle and max speed gets lower when the battery is lower. It does it to preserve the battery and still get you where you need to go. Like a Tesla as I get down to 10% left in the battery it limits the speed to help keep the batteries preserved. Most companies will do this to help alleviate warranty calls because the battery sucks.

Now she change the company and not need this ride anymore, so I am using it for my riding to town centre, etc. One big issue with ES2 are screws coming loose all around and scooter start coming wobbly, and every few weeks I need to tide up all. Also don't forget to switch on the power before you start riding (happen to her and me few times), it is not a good experience when you start riding down from the hill and you cannot slowing down your ride.

Don't ever make price the deciding factor. I used to shop extensively with Amazon until I had a series of serious customer service issues. The cheapest sellers on Amazon aren't always "authorized" sellers and if they aren't some manufacturers won't honor the warranty. Now, whenever possible, I buy directly from the manufacturer or a retailed that is recommended/linked on the manufacturer's site. It's nice to develop a relationship with the actual manufacturer.

A very comprehensive review. However, I believed you omitted a-very very important characteristic (esp. for those of if you don't live in a flat area), is the incline ability. The max is able to climb inclines in excess of 20 degrees even with me on it (130kg, 20 & 1/s stone, or 286pounds), by zig-zagging up the road. I have a Ninebotbot max now, as I returned my first scooter (similar to the ESC2/4), it just would not take me up the hill in my street, the Max drops to 1/2 speed, but makes it up the hill. The ability to navigate steep inclines may override the problems with carrying it up 3 flights or stairs.

I guess I failed to mention I bought my ES2 from a private supplier and I only spent $300 but if I paid full price and faced the same quality issues I have had (super loose screws after one ride...control board issues seconds later..to complete power loss)---I would hate Segway for life. Yet here I am waiting for another taste of freedom on two wheels

@@suspiciousmembers7719 That happened to my es4. I went through 2 of them in 4 weeks. Both had external battery issues. I knew I should've gotten the Max. Everyone I've spoken to who have the max have said that they have no issues. The ES models are garbage
@suspiciousmembers77194 жыл бұрын
@@BboysnowNYC I hope the MAX is the solution. I'm still waiting patiently for my own. I feel Segway I'd running a quasi legal Ponzi scheme.

Holy cow I got my ninebot max today and I’m 15 but I consider myself decently strong, at least stronger than most kids my age but I can’t get myself carrying it over my chest, at least not with one hand, I can get it over my head with 2 hands but seeing u carry it with one hand over ur head at first I was like damn 41lb doesn’t look so heavy and now I’m super impressed that u can do that

Great video... so timely cause I was at the purchase point. Interesting about your choice for ES4.... can’t fault you on that one. Weight and collapsed size was a serious consideration. I went with the MAX.... wanted better stability and range. Mostly cause I will be using it when I am up in Montreal next summer and our roads are worse that your roads in Philly. Hopefully the bigger wheels will keep me from doing an endo 😝. Till then I will have it in Dahlonega Ga where hills will be my challenge. Will be interesting to see how it does there! Thanks again!

just a quick correction my friend, the sagway ninebot Max does infact have a rear break light, both 1st generation and 2nd Max has rear break light that lights up wen you pull the hand break. Also wen you turn on the headlight by pushiong the power button 1 time while the scooter is already powered on the rear light also turns on as well as the headlight, then wen pulling the hand break it will start to flash. If your rear light isnt lighting up then you may have a wiring issue and should contact Segway right away for a replacement.

For the segway ES4 and maybe the ES3 you need to use up one bar of the battery for it to fully break effectively.

Im hesitant between the es4 and the MAX,i was scrolling down the comments and saw a lot of people taking about the es4 and having problems with it,but i didnt see anything about cons of the MAX,it was all about people having a great time with the max ,i cant carry the MAX,its just too heavy for me ,but the es4 seems to have problems too,what should i choose The MAX or the es4?

He forgot to mention that extra battery is swappable and spares are $220 on Amazon. So, if you have a big commute you can put a spare battery or 2 in your backpack. You can also always have one on a charger so if you come home and you're low, swap it. Charge it (since you want to charge the main battery as well) but it will cut your time to 3ish hours instead of 7. That made the decision really easy for me. Hope that helps you as well.
@swiftrian3 жыл бұрын
Oh and the extra battery on the scooter is the same one you can buy spares of and they only weigh 1.5kg/3.3lbs and if you extrapolate the info. Each battery adds on 14+ miles to your distance. So, just one extra could get you to that 41mile mark or if you have 2, to 55miles. So, definitely a bonus over the Max. Even with the 2 extra batteries and possibly a 50 mile range, combined weight is only 37ish lbs.

I just purchased a white ES 2 directly from the Segway site. They were having a sale that brought the price down to $499. Plus, they threw in a free combo cable lock and a handlebar bell. I'm thinking of just using it to get lunch when I'm at work as the good restaurants are 10+ minute walks away (each way) which isn't good when you only have 30 minutes for lunch.

I have size 12 shoes and am 6’, although I’ve got issues with my Es2 the fact it works with my size is very nice. My Es2 has the external battery which makes it great for daily commuting and I connect to my destination with Sound Transit Express busses which helps save battery for the hills I’ll inevitably encounter. The shock absorption sucks and makes terrible noises. The brakes are horrible like you mentioned and it makes me feel less safe when going at top speed. I had an issue with the stem getting loose and a screw falling out because of vibrations (which I assume is because of the solid tires). Bumps make me feel like I’m having my life flash before my eyes. Overall, with all that in mind, it’s great for entry level scooting but not something I’d really choose again knowing how my experience has been. However I bought mine (with the battery) for $200 and there’s nothing in that price range that would get me the same performance I’ve had with the Es2.

You're going to regret that decision. MAX is much tougher scooter. It's really close to those rental models that have been made to take the beating of thousands of kilometers. Sure ES4 is more lighter but it's also much weaker in construction. Maintaining correct pressure in the tires can't be that hard. Buy 15USD pump and strap it to the handle bar post. I have 1300 miles under my belt with M365 and I have had flat once!

I bought the ES4 a year ago. It got broken every 3 months or so. I do like 5km per day on streets. After 3 repairs I got a new one, which after 3mt.. is broken again To say it short: this is crapy quality. Oh, I even fixed some screws by myself, or they would just have fallen off during a ride.

You can use a app on android to "hack it" down to a legal speed (If that is why it is illigal). It is called xiaoflasher and can be found on the play store. If you have a iphone, just borrow a firends android for 5 mins. I had to do it with my es4. I bought it before the stores delivered them with the firmware that limits them to 22 km/h (Wich is the legal speed in Norway). So effectivly i just updated the software on the scooter so it was the same as the scooter that they sell in the stores now. Identical bike. ps. The app also lets you re-install the old stock firmware, so you wont lose your warranty if you need to return it. God knows i have. Going to return mine and get my money back tomorrow! Piece of trash bike. If anyone is reading this. DONT BUY ES2 OR ES4.
@qwertiee4 жыл бұрын
@@Professor_Bugs Well... hehe I got 2 things to tell you 1. It isn't because of a legal speed or anything and I think it's only because the electric scooter is for some reason considered as a vehicle and therefore a motorbike... Idk how that works :) 2. Yesss, of course, I know about Xiaoflasher, I've already gone through and tried every setting through custom firmware, and have changed my motor constant power to maximum (42000). I think it should be fine, and honestly even if it dies I don't care since I'm going to send it back anyway due to a major creaking issue (The whole scooter creaks everytime I stand on it). If something goes wrong with it I'll just flash to the default firmware and get it repaired along with the creaking issue Thanks for your extended response however

@joaocosta83164 жыл бұрын
Your comment at 18:41 is not accurate. Fully charged, the ES4 will have it's top acceleration that is different if you have it at 30% battery where the acceleration will start getting smoother. However the top speed is the same with or without charge. The top speed only changes once you reach like 10% battery. Maybe you didn't play around with the ride modes where the sport mode will always allow you to reach the top speed.

Man, the ES2 would actually work pretty well for me. I live just under 2 miles from work. It's just that I live in a city that boasts a rather high crime rate so..... I would likely get assaulted and have it stolen from me. You don't see anyone riding their bicycles around where I live.
