Not sure if I like Brad's proposal. If a team who was very very bad gets to draft a McDavid or a Matthews or a Crosby, they just get the player with no cap penalty because they drafted and 'developed' the player? No 'development' was needed with players like that; they were consensus 1OA picks who were immediately NHL ready. Not sure why Edmonton or Toronto or Pittsburgh deserves such insanely beneficial treatment.

MBN is one of our talents that I could already see in the NHL. He already has skills that other players only learn and have over time abroad or in the minors (like Larkin and Raymond went straight to the NHL). Players like him should not be allowed to play in the 4th lineup (like they did with Berggren) it would atrophy his talent. I would like to have a 3rd lineup this year with: Berggren (LW) Danielson (C) MBN (RW) Berggren: plays very well on offense, good passer, shoots the puck, teams foul him very often because of his speed and we get a power play Danielson: very strong in the faceoff for his age, good passer, shoots the puck, well-rounded center (much better than Kasper, who is physically stronger) MBN: plays very strongly along the boards, chases the puck and the opponent, good defense for a forward, has an extreme shot, he is in the right place at the right time The only disadvantage is the body language of Danielson and Berggren, but that wouldn't be so problematic because of their talent Just imagine these line combinations: DerBrincat Lakin Raymond (line speed) Terasenko Compher Kane (experience line) Berggren Danielson MBN (youth line) Rasmusen Copp Fischer (strength line) (Mazur/Motte, Veleno, Kasper (future line))

Kasper is further ahead than MBN. I think SY needs to start rebuilding asap. He has some players that can come in and he is just blocking too many out of getting a chance.

@@user-ed6nt1ml6p Moderate your choice of language! Do you have to be insulting? Fool! I was just expressing my opinion! I don't know what kind of experience you have in hockey, if you don't see these differences, you should probably change sport to even have a say. Danielsson would definitely have joined the team in 2023/24 if he hadn't had to go back to the juniors. Have you even seen the AHL games with Kasper? He goes into the offensive zone himself (fine), but then only stays in the middle in front of the goal, he's not a bumper and doesn't deflect pucks, which isn't effective for a center. He's always too far to the right or left, he doesn't play into a free space, which really doesn't help. I hope we've cleared that up!

SY likes to honor the SHL's contracts if agreed upon ahead of the draft. It has been a system of trust for years now. Plus it is a further year of development/sponsorship and Kronwall and associates get access for advisement to the prospect during the season. Doubt Kasper makes the final roster, they have players ahead of him. Danielson will make a strong case.

Salaries should only count after official tax rate against the cap. Changes to tax should have no impact. Cap hit is set for the contract length with the date of the signing. I don't see a big issue in this approach, if you really want to change something

Agree that the salary cap makes no sense for hockey. For basketball and football (Although NFL cap has so many loopholes, it may as well not exist), I can see the argument. But hockey is more akin to baseball than either of those sports in regards to how teams are put together and the talent pool available to pull from. I don't care how much money owners or players make, but they should have the freedom to go as high or low as they please.

For cap. The only change I want is to make guaranteed and non guarenteed money in contracts. Half way into some contracts you then may or may not have a better buyout option as you can take the entirety of the cap hit all in 1 year as well as possible savings on total money. Or all that caphit gets used in year 1 if room and the spill over amount can be used the following year. Or even a multi year spillover if no room. More deserving players can get the money that is being saved too. Teams would be less likely to pigeon hole themselves. Think Minnesota Wild. Or even Copp/Holl in our case

Still no deals in sight for our 2 real future core players. All anyone can say is "Steve grinds his guys".... How is it that kent Hughes has suzuki Caufield and now salf locked in for under 8 mil each for 8 years each. And were over here wondering if we can get either of these guys to even agree to an 8 year deal regardless of the cap hit. Hughes is running circles around yzerman at the gm position.

wow - I heard - Goose looneys - the hosts probably don't know what that even means - that was the name of the bar several players were caught breaking curfew in - the night before a playoff game against the peak Edmonton Oilers in 1987 - and effectively ended the Jacques Demers era in Detroit - along with Petr Klima, and Bob Probert - of course they all were around for longer but it was never the same again - they were just riding the hand out - whoever uses that as a handle - is certainly a long timer - and I doubt any of the hosts were probably even alive yet then. It was the end of one era - the 1989 draft was the beginning of the classic post "production line " era red wings

Wow I have seen the headlines - about Dubas - if that is what he said it just underscores how blind he is . He created those three - and their contracts by signing Tavares at the $ and the term he did. As soon as he did that - he cemented that the other 3 were going to be drastically overvalued - how could they have not been . He signed Tavares to $11 mill / 7yrs - and he was the 3rd best center on the team the day he signed the contract !!! So happy to see Dubas destroy Pittsburgh for a generation

Reasonable bridge contracts for Raymond and Seider would give management the cap space to sign a top four right shot defenseman and a starting goalie. Signing Raymond and Seider to big long term contracts with this roster will not get the Wings into the playoffs ever.

@@jennifermorris9985 On this cup window team your dreaming about, who is going to be the other right shot top four defenseman and who is going to be the starting goalie and when will this window open, 2025, 2026? Either way the bridge contract would still be intact.
@jennifermorris9985
@jennifermorris9985 Ай бұрын
@davideggleston1031 cup contention will probably be in about 3 to 4 years. ASP and Cossa/Augustine should fill those roles.A bridge is 2 to 3 years, so the bridge contract would be over. Im not opposed to bridges, but saying long term will keep the Wings from getting into the playoffs isn't true. It may be an obstacle for this year, but will help long term.
@swiftpanda9384
@swiftpanda9384 Ай бұрын
I think the risk with bridge deals is both of them wanting 11+ and term when they resign, eating up the cap increases. That would similarly handcuff us from trying to sign the guys coming off their ELCs. The fact is we have no business signing another D man with Petry and Holl or goalie with Hussos shitty contract. To be able to sign any other needs we have to ride out or dump those contracts. Thus it makes sense to do anything we can to get them long term and reap the benefits later.

that is such a stupid narrative - I have suddenly started hearing it over and over again - it seems like it is propagated in the Canadian media - it is being used as a reason why guys do not want to play in Canada . The actual reason is the over the top attention and obtrusion into their lives . First of all - it is presented completely inaccurately - in that the players pay no taxes in those states . Which is completely ignorant and absurd. First of all - the states in question - there is no state income tax - which in nearly every case is a small percentage to begin with . That aside - if you live in those states - here is a little reality for you - Taxes are collected - they just come in different ways typically - retail sales taxes are appreciably higher - that is not going to be avoided -no matter what , property taxes tend to be considerably higher . In the case of Nevada and Florida - a lot of the state revenue is generated from tourism. But you have to be ignorant on a borderline criminal level to think that someone with an abundance of options are going to base the decisions that they make in their life based on whether or not they pay state income tax. Did you know that the state of Delaware does not have retail sales tax - never has - does that mean the NHL should have a franchise in Wilmington ? it is just so preposterously stupid. I come from a very long list of CPAs - my uncles have been doing taxes / financial planning for NHL players for decades - this story is so dumb . I happen to live in the same state as Barry Trotz and if he was now the GM of the Islanders - he would be saying something completely different.
