Why is the intro portion of your video so ridiculously loud? It nearly blew my eardrums out. Then I had to turn the volume up to hear your voice. Some proper audio editing would be advised.

Indeed a beautiful watch. I have just bought the 55 Fathoms in the new model, so the dial now is available blue, which is gorgeous and the hour markers have been changed to silver bars. Together it is exquisite. Hope you like it too.

Armand, as always AWESOME review! I’d really like to see more of these kinds of watch modifications reviews......is it wrong to modify your entry level watch to have attributes of a high end luxury timepiece? Please make more watch mod videos. 👍

beautiful watch.. I guess it's just me.. but I don't get the craze for nylon/canvas nato's these days..compared to a nato the distressed leather is just beyond question more substantial and attractive.. (to me).. again must just be my taste..all these watch channels put luxurious sport watches on nato's..I don't get it. but again..beautiful piece.

The nato/canvas are comfortable, affordable and easy to swap straps very quickly compared to two piece straps. Also leather can get damaged by water with a dive watch.

Hi, Looking at your video, I feel sure that's one of mine you're reviewing. (Rodserling). Funnily enough I sold one to Switzerland and one to the UK. Very pleased that you're pleased with the watch. Nice to see my regulation is appreciated! Not making any more of them. I'm looking for a donor watch for an Oris 65 tribute at the moment (it will probably be a Seiko sea-urchin) for my next project. I have the dial and hands from Yobokies already bought. Wish me luck. Love your videos, Best Regards, Ian.

+Ian Masterton: Thank you very much for the comment! This watch was indeed purchased from you using the eBay account of a family member and mine was not working correctly at the time. I must say, it really is a wonderful piece, you really have done a superb job. With regards to the Oris 65 tribute, I wish you the best of luck, do please send me a photograph of it when you have completed it as the project does sound most inspiring. Best wishes, Armand.

Love the look but not keen on the movement. Is it possible to easily replace this movement with a higher grade Seiko movement such as the 4R36 (NH35)?
@ArmandTheWatchGuy
@ArmandTheWatchGuy 7 жыл бұрын
+Jacob Reef: It is indeed possible but requires a true professional to do so. This is because you need the movement holder to be modified and a new crown stem (to fit new movement) to be attatched to the existing crown along with a dial which will seat itself correctly.

the watch that tuned turquoise hasn't just "aged' like that. the guy put it in bleach or something. He said so on his instagram.
@ArmandTheWatchGuy
@ArmandTheWatchGuy 8 жыл бұрын
+ThePhiltastic: Thank you for the information, it's very good to hear that and I am glad that the problem was not as acute as I thought. However, I have seen other pictures of entirely natural ageing which show cases in very similar condition as a result of exposure to salt water.

Having been around boats with silicon bronze hardware, I can tell you that even with repeated / constant exposure to salt water, it takes decades to get the sort of "verdegris" (greenish patina) you see in the photo. What that watch underwent is an application of faux patina. It is far too uniform and thick - and indeed looks like crap. Bronze is actually more corrosion resistant than stainless steel. Stainless steel is only "stainless" when exposed to oxygen, where it develops a micro coating of chromium oxide. This is called "passivated" stainless steel. On boats we generally use the same alloy that watchmakers use for their casers, "316" for it's corrosion resistance in standing rigging applications. Problems develop when the metal is kept immersed in stagnant water a phenomenon called "crevice corrosion" develops and can cause sudden, catastrophic rigging failure without warning. I had a stainless steel bob-stay - a bit of wire rigging that goes from the waterline to the bowsprit - part (break) while underway several years ago, and nealy lost the mast. The fitting gave out after about 30 years of repeated immersion in salt water, and it corroded from the inside out - the wire was nice and shiny on the outside and looked perfect, but had slowly rotted away inside of the strands. Bronze does not have this problem - it's corrosion resistance comes from a tough oxide film- The coating that develops is extremely tough, and bronze fittings brought up from shipwrecks hundreds of years old can be polished to look like new if you want to ruin their historic value. Bronze is also a slightly more noble metal than stainless steel, and if stainless and bronze come into electrical contact with each other in the presence of an electrolyte in a magnetic field (water and the earth's magnetic field will do) the stainless steel will become anodize and will be slowly dissolved by the bronze cathode. It's important to not that bronze and brass are two different alloys. Bronze is based on copper and tin, brass on copper and zinc. Zinc is bad news when it comes to corrosion resistance and electrolysis - it is a cheap substitute for bronze. You can tell the difference by color - Bronze has a deep golden brown color, brass is bright yellow. Anyway, a bronze watch case is an intriguing idea, especially for a diver. It's an extremely tough, durable metal, and superior to stainless steel in many ways. If you don't like the patina that eventually develops, you can simply polish it off occasionally with any number of metal polishes designed for the task. corrosion-doctors.org/MatSelect/corrbronze.htm

sometimes i find it funny, Seiko watch modified to blancpain, gets respect. Replica blancpain, swiss movement, gets hate. Why?!
@seanpollard4844
@seanpollard4844 8 жыл бұрын
It is a different design that pays homage and is inspired not a direct copy. It pays respect rather than simply trying to be something it is not. The name fifty five fathoms is part of the charm. The watch is a Seiko 5 and it has 100m water resistance which happens to be 55 fathoms which is very close to the original Blancpain. It is part of the watch mod culture which gets more respect than the replica scene which is dishonest.
@jackeyplays7908
@jackeyplays7908 8 жыл бұрын
yeah but, if you put a porshe f430 kit over a toyota MR2 people are gonna hate on you still,even though its an MR2.Why doesn't that logic apply on wrist watches?
@seanpollard4844
@seanpollard4844 8 жыл бұрын
I see your point with kit cars and there definitely is hate on those replicars too but if it is more of a mod culture it gets respect. Keeping with the car theme it is kinda like how there is respect for Caterham cars which are replicas of the lotus 7. The Caterham is not calling itself a lotus but it definitely has the inspiration and design principles. The main difference is the false branding which is dishonest and a dishonorable principle. Bringing a rare watch or car back to life is the opposite and is very honorable to allow the next generation to experience it and let the legend live on.

Please forgive me if i come across all wierd to you but Why do you want a mimick or Knock off watch for Armand ide rather you show us pictures of the real watch like your video's in previous links. You would give us a Vocal banquet of wonderful history of the time piece. Im sure it looks great Armand but you're always so passionate about watches and why there history and Horological interest is what's the real value in a watch so what happened. Forgive me for my comments I'm rather perplexed why such passionate love for watches would buy something that's not real.
