I got this watch in 2014 when it was newly launch. It went through the toughest times and the worst was when it fell 20 feet, hitting metal beams on its way down to the ground. As I picked it up, the only obvious mark I could find was a tiny dent on the shroud. And until today that dent reminds me of that very moment.

I have quite a few mostly Seiko dive watches, but there is something extra special about this watch. Unusually I didn’t do any research , I saw it, I bought it and I love it. I can’t seem to find the proper metal strap for it though.

There is a dive extension....and a full 30 seconds indicates a full charge not 15. Just wanted to clarify for folks still considering this watch.

Very good review. Thank you. It made me buy one. Most accurate watch I have owned apart from a radio controlled Citizen Nighthawk. The seiko keeps time with it to the second.

Yes, you can move the Hour hand backwards with no issues. That is the point actually, for quick changing of local time.

Omega, Baume it Mercier and other Swiss manufacturers use Autoquartz. On the lower end, I was told Bulova subed out to Citizen for their 97A136 witch has an open heart! How is this possible? Do a show on it.

Who cares if it isn't automatic? It has the best of both worlds: the accuracy of a quartz, and the no-battery-worries of a mechanical. Autoquartz and solar-powered watches aren't nearly as common as they should be.

I loved mine but I sold it because I was too anxious about keeping the battery charged; as a result, I'd wear at the exclusion of my other several watches. I replaced it with the 3rd generation of Seiko Black Monster, the SRP627. But I have to admit I still miss my SUN019.

+Jeffrey McMahon Should have bought a kinetic winder. Fully charged it lasts 6 months and an occasional wear tops it up. There is a KZbin video of a guy that is also anxious. He is a yoyo.

Well, I've got the 019, but if I were going to pull the trigger on a Tuna, I'd get either a pre-owned SBBN015 or an 017. I like the finish on those better than I like the current one. I would not get the shiny finish. I hate that. If I were buying new, I'd go with the 033. Even at $1300, you can't beat that Tuna.

I've had my 019 for about 3 weeks now, and I can tell you that the videos don't do it justice. It looks good on the monitor; it looks WAY better in real life. It is large, but if you can wear a Monster, you can wear this. It does have an upgraded bracelet, but it is still the pin-and-collar type (and those are a pain trying to add/remove a link). Fit and finish are excellent. The quartz accuracy is very good. Charging the watch is a pain in the wrist. The book says it takes 24-THOUSAND shakes to get a full charge. Yeah, right. I bought the Seiko kinetic charger (expensive but worth it; I've got 2 kinetics). It will power up the watch, but it takes about 12 hours for a full charge, and not the 4 hours they claim. The SUN019 checks off a lot of boxes if you want a stylish and unique piece.

Kian, the 019 is the wider than a Monster side-to-side. It is longer from top to bottom. I've got a 7.5 in. (18,75 cm) wrist, it does not extend over the edge of my arm. The 019 is a big watch, but I've got a large arm and a big hand, it doesn't look out of place on me. Good luck.

@@6ctown6 Yes. Seiko offers 2 24mm rubber straps for this watch. the SUN021 comes with a black rubber. SUN065 comes with a blue rubber strap

@@logwind I think if you check, watches and dudes with bigger wrists have been around for quite a while longer than "at least a decade". There's still nowhere near the same variety of options for blokes that don't want to look as though they've just mugged a schoolboy for his watch. There are far more smaller Seikos than there are larger ones, unless you fancy shelling out for a Darth or Emperor Tuna. I mean, I would if I could, but I can't so I don't. Hell, I've even had to Dragonshroud my SKX007 just so it can have a little wrist time. And you know what? They make a smaller version of that, the SKX013, but do they make a larger one? Nope.

@@Freddy...Krueger I guess you and I are situated at different extremes. I have a 6.25" wrist. The majority of modern offerings, save for a few unicorns like a BB58 or 38mm Zentih, are between 40 and 44mm. I can sometimes pull off a 40, but anything larger is a no go. I'm surprised even the SKX is too small for you. The lug span is compact, but the chunky case and offet crown makes it wear like a 42mm IMO.

@@logwind Yeah, an 8 1/2" wrist really limits what I can wear, I've only ever wanted to own/wear Seikos (and a few Pulsars when I was young) and there have been quite a few that I've loved the look of but ended up being just too small and had to be moved on. :( So, I'm sure you can understand how the SUNxxx range along with Monsters, the Darth Scallop, etc. get me a bit more excited than other watches. :D

Watch brothers, if you aren't researching the advancement in digital watches, you need to wake up. The value, for the level of function, fit & finish the athletic smart watches have achieved, over the last year, blows my mind! Example, the Garmin Fenix 8 looks like Audemars Piguet and Android collaborated. It sells for around $950, has Titanium case, saphire, quick release bands, Amoled screen, wp 50 meters, has a flashlight, speaker, voice commands, monitors heart rate, steps, sleep. It runs for two weeks on one charge. Its a laptop on your wrist. The thought that a dude would instead pay Rolex $8k for a DJ, or Jaeger Lecoultre $9k for MCD, LMAO, what a joke. Luxury watches are a confidence scam.

I suggest you study English a bit, my friend. You use the word "unruly" twice when describing the fit and comfort of the watch. That's improper. "Unruly" means disorderly or rowdy. The word you want is "unwieldy", which means cumbersome or unmanageable. You also say you love the aesthetics of the watch, but then complain that the watch is too large for you and you don't like characteristics of the bracelet. Those complaints are in the category of aesthetic issues, so you don't like certain aspects of the watch's aesthetics.

After an almost 20 min review you didn't even explain if the crystal is domed (a flat crystal on a dive watch doesn't work and is a big fail) and how the bezel is implemented - are the markers on a plastic insert/metal engraved? There IS a dive extension on the top part too omg. Also is the dial lume set on top of plastic markers? If so, that is cheap as f**k looking. Come on man. Worst review but hey, I have a Patek i want to sell to you!
