I've had the SUN023, SUN065, and the SUN043 for about 6 years now, and I'm just now seeing your review. Great review! I watched the whole video, and it's given me a renewed appreciation for the trio. The battery level drops pretty quick on all three, so I'll need to look into getting some service.

Loved this review! I have had a kinetic watch for 12+ years and love it. I had the capacitor replaced about 2 years ago for like $50. Super accurate and only needs a new battery/capacitor every 10 years.

Recently I got a Seiko Kinetic GMT. But for days I couldn't figure it out how the GMT works, cause I expect that the two hands will move simultaneously, but it wasn't, so I thought maybe mine is broken or something wrong. And thank god I watched your video and now I figure it out how this work, thank you really!

Great review. Tried this on at a mall jewelry store and liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It prompted me to watch this (excellent) review. I have 6.5 inch wrists myself and completely agree with your assessment on the size. Yes, it's bigger than I prefer, but with the way its shaped it is reasonable and was quite comfortable. Thanks for all the information - you filled in all the blanks I was looking for.

Great review, i got the SUN019, lovely piece. Thanks for the explenation to adjust the GMT. Anyway i can´t understand the GMT on a diver watch, but you have to understand that smaller hour hands and a big minute hand has sense on diver watches. On minimal specification requieremenst described on ISO 6425, says clearly that hour and minute hands have to be diferentied. Super explenation about the Kinetic system, magnetic levitation bearing and 100´000 rpm.....this is crazy.

I may be solving my own "problem" just by wearing my new SUN023. First - it keeps PERFECT time. Second - it seems to be very slowly increasing its power charge. It seems to have settled in the 20 second power indication. I can get the full 30 seconds with some brief aggressive shaking/winding. I find myself wanting to like this very unique design.

@danijuggernaut5 жыл бұрын
Very simply, the worl has 24 meridians (1 hour each) but your watch dial has only 12. That means that every 2.5 minutes marc on your dial correspond to one hour. 12 o´clock postion is Mmidnight, 3 o´clock position is 6 in the morning, 6 o´clock position is noon, 9 o´clock position is 6 afternoon and again 12 o´clock position is midnight.

Thanks for the video, I found the part about the Russian watch very interesting too. Quick point to make tho: Underwater, the FIRST colour to go is RED, then ORANGE because they have the longest wavelengths and thus the least energy. So your explanation for the colour choice is inaccurate. While the colour goes, the face will look light greyish so plenty of contrast when looking at the dial. Imho dark outlines on the minute hand with luminous paint filling their shape in against a watch face in orange would work. This watch does the reverse, with organge minute hand on a dark face .. should also work but you wont see that orange below 5-7 meters and in less depth than 5 meters you aren´t diving ;).

Is it normal for the gmt hand to mover slower than the hour hand ? For example. I put my local time 12pm est. I set the gmt to 9am pacific time. I leave it for a couple hours. My local time will be 2pm. My gmt hand will still be around 9ish pacific. Is this normal? Or am I reading it wrong ? 🤔 help me understand. Thanks -a person who is still trying to understand how a gmt works

The GMT hand will run slower as it's using the 24-hr track for the time instead of the 12-hr track of the main time.

Great review. When you demonstrated the power reserve button you unscrewed it before you pushed it. Does the button work only when unscrewed? I assume you need to screw it back down after you use it to preserve the integrity of the watch.
@WatchGeek7 жыл бұрын
+Jan Reeves yup, you're right on both of these, while screwed in you cannot press it. And yes you have to screw it back in to guarantee water resistance, although it is still water resistant, in the case of an accidental button press you will have trouble 😊
@janreeves54437 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I just got a new SUN023 two days ago. Both the crown and the power button came new in the box "unscrewed." The crown operates fine but the power button will not screw down so the button cycles to give you the power level every time anything touches the button. It's going back.
@WatchGeek7 жыл бұрын
+Jan Reeves it will screw down it's just different than the crown. Try just screwing it without pressing like you do with the crown, at least that is how mine works, I thought at first it was weird too
@janreeves54437 жыл бұрын
I've tried everything and it just won't turn - seems to be locked in the "unscrewed" position. Fortunately I bought it from AmazonPrime - it's on its way back with a new replacement being delivered to me tomorrow. Hard to beat Amazon for excellent customer service.

I am selling this watch. I've had it since brand new and it never did well with me. The crown would dig and hurt my wrist. They should've put the crown at 4:00 like their other large dive models. But it's very very cool looking. The crown was the downfall.

I own a Kinetic and hate it. The battery still takes a charge but it only lasts a few days. So, I keep it near my computer so I can pick it up and shake it. It usually takes ten minutes to charge up that way. When I wear the watch, it doesn't charge much, so I end up shaking it again. I wanted to have the watch serviced, but it cost nearly $100 to do so. This cost is much higher than it is worth. I plan on giving the watch to a collector friend then I'll buy a Seiko solar or a Citizen Eco Drive. Solar is a much more sensible, less irritating technology.

Watch Geek Can you educate me, I being serious, What is stressful about Kinetic energy. What is it that I dont know. I just received this watch TODAY. Dr. Adams
@WatchGeek6 жыл бұрын
Any rechargable battery will have its life shortened by a huge margin when you discharge it often with a high DOD (Depth Of Discharge) meaning the more often you allow it to drop to very low levels the lower life expectancy of the battery is. Because of this you want to keep your battery topped up as much as possible, which is not a problem with Kinetic IF it is your only watch and you wear it every day, BUT for people who have a watch collection it becomes a problem as they HAVE to put that watch in rotation with other watches to keep it on high charge. The same goes for solar watches, but with them you don't have to wear them to keep them charged, you just avoid storing them in dark places like drawers, which makes them A LOT easier to maintain. But, like I said, if Kinetic is your only watch these is no stress at all 😁👍

Just got my new SUN023 and I am concerned about the watche's ability to hold a charge. When it came it had "five seconds" on the meter. After shaking it vigorously and wearing it for a few days I was able to get it up to 20 seconds and even saw the full 30 second reading but not for long. Now it quickly settles back down to 10 seconds. If I shake it for a few minutes it jumps back up to 20 seconds. Am I being paranoid or is this reason for concern? This is my first Kinetic experience
@TheBlackDog737 жыл бұрын
Jan Reeves 20 seconds prob 4 months reserve
@BeNoRed7 жыл бұрын
I initially had that problem with my SUN019 and it took 15 minutes of shaking to get a month of reserve. That continued for awhile but now, for some reason, it only takes 5 minutes every other week to keep it fully charged. Might be temperature because it's now winter. Not sure but mine, at least, got better. Great watch

Anyone you like the look of will be fine. If it's going to be your only watch that you will wear every day you don't have to worry about the charge and battery, but if it's going to have one of many you wear or a watch for special occasions that you wear sometimes, go with solar or regular battery operated as the Kinetic will die in you and fail
