The most underrated Seiko diver out there. The Blue bezel is stunning. The 2021 look to have the same blue bezels but at nearly double the price.

I have SBDC061 as my first diver and its a really nice watch and punching way above its price range with awesome lume which shines even during the day! Its built like a tank too

Not only one of my favourite Seikos but also one of my favourite watches in my collection. So much so, that I ended up not only getting the SBDC063 but also the 061. I think it's one of the best finished cases you can get especially at second-hand market prices. The lume is outstanding the bezel action very nice. And I love those design queues harking back to the legendary 6159-7000

Couldn't put it better myself. The Seikos in my collection probably give me more satisfaction than my more expensive Swissers. I've a range from SKX to LE SLAs, KS and GS. The sophistication of their colour palette, proportion, light play, intrinsic value and quality of finish (for respective price points) is superb. All mated to reliable, easy to service, well performing movements (again relative to price point). Head to head, there's no doubt that a high beat SLA is a better watch than a Rolex, the 8L35 it's equal. At the SPB or SBDC level, nothing comes close, nor really does until you get to Omega. Yeah, Seiko make more expensive watches now than they used (and cop flak endlessly for it), but they still make great $300 watches and their more expensive watches easily match the Swiss for QC and often exceed them in aesthetic sophistication. Anyone who's driven a Lexus, ridden a Honda or shot a Miraku knows that Japanese product can easily match or surpass established Euro brands. The problem is perception and here the Japanese face an uphill battle convincing the uninitiated and snobbish.

Well said my friend. The problem is, it’s ingrained in peoples heads..”Swiss-Luxury” “Japanese-affordable”. It’s more ignorant in my eyes more than anything. What most don’t realise is the Japanese are very proud people. They do everything with 110% mentality! They strive for perfection! Unless someone is educated in their culture, or have been to Japan to see how they are as a nation, one wouldn’t understand it. Just look at any JDM cars for example, their entry level would beat any entry level European car any day, twice on Sunday! 😂 Now look at any entry level Japanese automatic watch, to an entry level Swiss…. The Swiss charges for the name, 5-10x the price & at par or the tiniest better at best. 🤷🏽♂️

The petrol blue is the hook that makes this watch.

I agree. Its actually a moment where I need to remind myself when beating up on rolex for never changing anything BUT the colour. That is, in fact, a pretty significiant change - especially when you either absolutely nail it or totally miss the mark.

I own one and am really glad they left the matte dial instead of some sort of blue sunburst. Lets the bezel do it’s thing while the dial just stays super legible

Well, well, well. We finally agree on some things. Movements need to be just good enough in "tool" type watches. Couldn't agree more. Also, I am becoming increasing aware of case differences. I too like the bezel. Glad you enjoy the watch.

Totally with you on what makes Seiko great. Spectacular case and dial design. Movement just has to work.

I too seem to have grown out of the Seiko brand, and have been reluctant to spend big on Seiko limited editions only to see them repeatedly re-issued. However, as watch enthusiasts Seiko is engrained into our life. I do like that watch, maybe I should look closer at the SBDC range.

Just received an SBDC061 a few days ago. It’s a cracking watch!

I have been thinking about this watch since I saw it about 6 months ago. That blue bezel is hypnotic. Have not been able to pull the trigger. And now I've seen the SPB213, wow. I'm torn between these watches. But that bezel gets me.

I bought the sbdc063 about five months ago. I went with the stainless steel bracelet option that Gnoman Watches can provide. I have also added the ratcheting clasp from the MM300. In my opinion this makes for a great watch. I agree with your opinion in the movement - it is “good enough.”

"Petrol" for that blue-ish tone is also commonly used in Germany :)

I just picked up one of these but prefer bracelet so I decided to order the Miltat Super o bracelet, not the Seiko one as the Miltat is so much cheaper but in my opinion at least as good quality.

Toolish, no-nonsense dive watches : would like to have your view on the Casio Duro. Got the blue one a few weeks back and I almost feel ashamed for choosing it (again) over the Speedmaster or my Nomos Tangente (could hardly be more different 😊). It’s too big for my wrist, I am not a diver, there is only cheap and tiny Casino quartz movement inside but boy, do I like it !

Never warmed to the casios, kind of like the samurais and turtles, great value but always find myself unsatisfied.

A superb timepiece. I owned a Rolex Sea Dweller- much more expensive and it was an ugly duckling compared to this Seiko. Terrific review. Thank you. 😊

The deal breaker for me is not crown protector (even the cheapest seiko 5 has) crown is not at 3 clock position.... and case back is not exhibition (cheapest seiko 5 has exhibition case back)

I have spb051, same story, for me that watch can compete even with tudor bb
@PeteMcConvillWatches3 жыл бұрын
I believe when compared the original BB it makes the tudor look like a lazy, slab sided, catalog case kickstarter watch.

The case and the bezel is all party, but the dial and the hands disappoint with being a little bland for my taste. New Seiko models like the SPB1xx series are heaving some cheaply looking machined dials/indexes and hands with tiny lume printings. This will kill Seiko's great lume reputation.

Not so obvious watches? The watch here is one of the most popular watches from the biggest manufacturer in the world. Also maybe give the watch a wipe when you do a review. And clean your fingernails.
