Bro, that skx mod is badass! I think for $1200, that is a fair price for what you're getting! I love that classic marine master case, hugs the wrist and has just the right amount of heft to it in terms of weight. I think this one I'd keep on that bracelet too...its lit AF. I’m with Stuart....1200 USD does seem a little rich for a Seiko, albeit the finishing on this one is definitely a big step up from your 500/sub 500 pieces by the looks of if, but dang, I can get a really amazing Hamilton, Lacos, or as Stuart says other Swiss or German brands....I love my Seiko watches, but I wonder if Marc will come up with one of these at a fraction of the cost. To be fair, with the level of case finishing you are getting and the rest of the quality of this watch, I have NO problem with the price, especially when we see significant drops on the actual street price. The deal breaker for me is that even at this price point with Seiko you are still playing the alignment lottery game in a high proportion of cases and that is totally unacceptable. I bought a Turtle last week (again) and in the order notes I put “please inspect watch for issues with alignment of bezel insert, chapter ring and dial to save us both the trouble and cost of me returning this if it comes misaligned”. I don’t know if writing that helped, but the Turtle that turned up was Perfectly aligned 😂

Here’s the thing. There’s no problem in theory with a Seiko at $1200. What there is a problem with is the following. 1. Even at this level, Seiko still can’t get their QA right with regards to bezel insert, chapter ring and dial alignment. There are plenty of examples of these and Willards with severe alignment issues. 2. Compared to what the Swiss and the Germans are offering at this price range, the movements in these are sub-par. 3. As usual with Seiko, the bracelet seems like an afterthought and is just “good enough”. But yes, they are beautiful watches with regards to aesthetics and case finishing. I love Seiko as a brand, they just need to get their shit together, especially since they seem to be moving up market.

Stuart! Brotha, first and foremost thank you for watching. Truly means a lot. And you bring up some good points. I would agree and as mentioned in the video. I think 1200 dollars for this piece, is a steal! But it is also a very competitive price point. Because, let's say for 1500 you can purchase a NOMOS Campus 38 for example, which opens a plethora of options. And, I agree the QC issues Seiko has... is a tough pill to swallow when paying that much. I've seen it personally and its annoying to say the least lol. Now as far as movements, I'm torn... Because for example giving us 70HRS of power reserve is awesome! And they've been doing it for sometime. Which seems to be the standard now or the bare minimum. But it would be nice if they decorated and regulated their movements or gave us a 4hz movement. Frustrating, we know they can, they just haven't. But here is the catch and how they reel us in lol. They make some AMAZING, HANDSOME pieces. Amazing! Dials and they truly have the formula to make you want a watch lol.

@@timelesssneakersandwatches 4Hz and 70 hours IS a bit too much to ask for - that’s getting into fairly high level movements. The main problem I have with Seiko right now is mostly to do with QC and what they are doing in the sub $1k category. They are being out done in this market so hard and the crazy thing is it is by the SWISS! Yes, the Swiss are kicking the crap out of Seiko in the entry level non-quartz market. Would you ever have though that 10 or even 5 years ago? I bought a 38mm Entry level Tissot daily wear type of watch. 100m water resistance, sapphire crystal and a Powermatic 80 movement. Basically an ETA 2824-2 slowed to 3hz to get 80 hours power reserve running at +5s/day. Basically the Swiss equivalent to the Seiko 6r35 but I got it in a Swiss watch for *$230US*. Tissot and Hamilton have been absolutely killing it recently. To be competitive with the Swiss again, Seiko needs to abandon the 4 series movement and have as a minimum the 6r15. The 4r15/35/36 represented almost no R&D cost to Seiko. They took a nearly 30 year old movement (7s26) and added hack and hand wind function. They need to have sapphire on every single watch they put out except maybe at the very entry level. Sapphire crystals are not luxury in 2021. $100 Aliexpress watches have them. The reason they are not doing this is obvious to me, the massive Seiko 5 collection is their bread and butter. They move huge quantities of these, millions and millions per year. It’s what almost every non watch enthusiast buys who just want an automatic watch from a brand with a reputation and every cent of margin matters at this price point. They’ve shown before they can produce STUNNING watches in this value market, with the SARB03x and Alpinists, but they inexplicably killed them off. I think Seiko realised they accidentally made watches that represented too much value, that were maybe canibalising some of their higher range offerings but they killed off many of these types of high quality affordable watches at exactly the wrong time - when the swatch group were aggressively pushing into this price bracket, and micros were really taking off (ironically a lot in the more affordable range using Seiko movements). To make matters worse, the sub 1k market is being absolutely flooded with some amazing micro brands with great specs and giving consumers what they want.

that seiko does look good. but i stay away from any 6r15 or 6r35 movements. the accuracy is questionable. the 4r movements are better and cheaper.

I appreciate you watching and I agree. It's a nice looking watch, a fun one and one that gives you similar vibes but a bit more affordable than the Tudor. As for the movement, personally, I've never had any issues with the 6R movements, but I have heard similar comments from other watch enthusiast. I guess I've just been lucky lol. It would be nice if Seiko would regulate them at this price point, even just a bit.
