“When Time lets slip a little perfect hour, take it- for it will not come again.” 3:03 Here’s a poem from the wise Omar Khayyam, Sufi astronomer-poet of Persia (c. 1048 - 1131). To read his collected poems is to heed the lessons of a thousand-year-old conversation on how to endure, enjoy, and find beauty in the fleeting time we have. Hope you enjoy this one. Let us know if you'd like to hear more from the Sufi Mystics. Best, RF

You are becoming wiser because of GOD. My friend as long as you keep seeking out Truth, GOD will reveal to you all things that you desire. Whatever question you have, always turn to GOD to find the answer. All of these poems and hymns and pieces of literature, they all of knowledge of the ONE TRUE GOD. And it's GOD who blessed you with all the GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT! Galatians 5:22-23. May GOD Blessed You Always! Amen!🙏🤲

@@josemorenofernandez2597 What the crap are you talking about. I'm telling him Truth because he said he's gaining Wisdom. I'm telling him that all of these poems, hymns and pieces of beautiful literature all have to do with GOD in some way because these people who are Poets, Song Writers And Authors they all have some Knowledge of the One Monothestic GOD. Many writers back then all believed in The One True GOD even if they came from a Polytheistic background, how and why because they seek out Truth. So actually my comment is based on Historical Reasoning, alright. I'm not just telling him that because I'm trying to determine why he is gaining Wisdom based on my reasoning concept, I'm giving him Factual Reasoning on why he is gaining Wisdom; two completely different statements. Before accusing me of something that is false, why don't you go study Historical Literature for yourself?

This poem is elucidating a salient fact… that life is unpredictable and indecipherable… so we should enjoy each and every moment of life with Mirth and euphoria rather than mourning over miseries of life.. yet one of his notions is wrong… that there is no hereafter but there is only one life… here he is directly opposing a factual base of our Eman… but if he taking it as an example and taking hereafter metaphorically for Future then I think it’s valid… Yet the actual motive remains in walls of the heart of the poet and the people make their observations and formulate various nuances regarding it…

Great poetery, great translation, One problem : you could not call Khayyam a "sufi". Sufism, or Tasawüf, is an islamic Mystic movement mostly spread in the originaly persian lands; modern Iran, Turkey, Iraq, Turkamanistan, Uzbekistan, and so on. Khayyam was a known philosopher and a scientist in his days, knowing himself as an Avicenna's folower. both philosophy and science are despicable and hated in sufism. Even after his death, ideas against him Increased. knowing his poetery as a nihilist, anti-islam and even atheist art, sufi icons started criticizing him. One of the key icons in the history of sufism, najm-al-din razi, in his famous book of Mirsaad-ul-ibad, calls Khayyam blind and longs for him to be Burnt in hell. So, Even though sufism plays an important role in persian literature, and the famous names of Rumi, Attar, Mansour-Hallaj and Hakim Sanaee were all sufis, it doesn't means that all persian poets were sufis. Lets name Khayyam, Hafiz, Saadi as examples.

I love Omar Khayyam! This is my favorite Arabic poet! Thanks for his quotes.) I don’t drink or smoke, I’m against drugs. In my opinion, there are true pleasures in life other than bad habits - this is the state of falling in love and the embodiment of our deepest desires and dreams into reality! My favorite Khayyam quotes: To be beautiful does not mean to be born so, After all, we can learn beauty. When a man is beautiful in soul - What appearance can compare with her? The lower man soul, the higher nose up. He reaches with his nose to where his soul has not grown. He who has been beaten by life will achieve more, He who eats a pound of salt values honey more highly. He who shed tears laughs sincerely, He who has died knows that he lives. A dolphin and a flounder splashed in the sea: “What a beautiful fish,” thought the dolphin; “What a freak,” thought the flounder... Envy is a terrible feeling. You can seduce a man who has a wife. You can seduce a man who has a mistress. But you cannot seduce a man who has a beloved woman. Two people were looking out the same window. One saw rain and mud. The other is green elm foliage, spring and blue sky. Two people were looking out the same window. Our greatest strength lies in the kindness and tenderness of our hearts.

Do not turn to look at every beggar that beckons - you belong to me! Do not sell yourself short, For you are priceless. Part the waters with your staff - you are today's Moses. Tear through the cloak of fog! You are of the light, the same light as Mohammad. Shatter the mirrors of the beautiful, you are the dazzling Joseph. Blow the breath of life like Christ - you, too, are of that air. Break away from the unscrupulous; do not fall for the deceit of ghouls. You are of noble origin - you are from the highest high. By spirit, you are deathless - imperishable; magnificent from within. You belong to the glorious - you are of divine radiance. What have you seen of your own beauty? You are still veiled... One dawn, like the sun, you will rise up from within yourself. It is a shame to be shrouded this way like the moon under cloud. Tear through the cloud of body! You are the magnificent moon. You are like a hawk whose feet are bound, tethered to the body - It is with your own claws that you must untie the knots. How joyous is gold when it enters the fire! for it is within the flames where it can show its essence and radiate its virtues. Do not run away from the fire's flames! What will happen if you step into them for trial's sake? It will not burn you, I swear; your face will glow, like gold. For you are Abraham's kin; ancient knowingness is yours. No mine has a jewel like you! This world has no life like you! For this is the world of decay and you are life-giving life. Khayyam was a follower of Avicennism, which Avicenna himself (though a devoted muslim) was greatly influenced by the Peripatetic school of philosophy (Aristotelianism). Aristotle was an empiricist (and in some instances a rationalist) and definitely did not believe in mysticism. The three people I mentioned (Khayyam, Avicenna, Aristotle) were polymaths. Philosophers are rare and special individuals, but being a philosopher-mathematician-astronomer-physicist-etc (polymath) has happened few times in human history. Scientific method is purely empirical-rational and has no room for mystics, faith, and etc. Sufism were all about mysticism. So that being said, Khayyam was not a sufist by any means.

Great perspective BUT is it advocating hedonism? which we know doesn't lead to a deeper satisfaction or life meaning nor does it promote the discipline required for the advancement of the human race. So a balanced approach of some sort is needed. I get it enjoy the moment but sometimes life requires postponement of pleasures for a greater joy & bliss here in the terrestrial realm. I loved this though ❤ and will ponder on it because contemplation is a pleasure to me.
