18:00 Actually this is Robert's dad, there is a lore theory about a sick child who came from European country in order to get the sacred water from senpou temple (where monk look's for immortality) The firecrackers were "sold by little Robert and his father to raise funds for their travels", that can explain why he is here and why his sword is in a bad condition
@maxia83025 жыл бұрын
killaken2000 I think that is an American thing: In Europe, we get out grandfathers name (speaking VERY generally here) I think its because you got your Fathers name as „family name“ when that got established: Thor Odinson (Thor, son of Odin) his son is called „Magni Thorson“. I got my grandfathers name from my dad’s side as middle name, my sister got our grandmother‘s name from our mother‘s side.
@benevolentworldexploder53955 жыл бұрын
@@maxia8302 Well if you are going off Scandinavian traditions then it must be noted that naming a family member after another person in the family or a powerful influencer of the time was done so in hopes of instilling the qualities of that person. It wasn't uncommon to see people named Oden Odenssen or Ragnar Ragnarson or Olof Olsson. There are even instances of a patriarchal figure's name being passed to the first born over and over and over. What makes things more complicated is that in the process of converting to Christianity would we see that often people in power would receive a new baptismal name, often one which expressed their elevated and accepted lordship within Christiandom. So that "American" theme of naming comes from European roots and isn't specifically associated with parents. My grandfather, who I named my son after, is Kenneth Jack. My father is Kenneth Brent. I'm Braedon Olsen. And my son is Kenneth Lee, named after his great grandfather and his mother's deceased father, Jackie Lee. Whereas, in accordance to the research my father did into our genealogy, there's not a record of a single Braedon in the family. To quote, "We picked Braedon Dane because it sounded cute."

About the modern armors and less-modern ones, I think you've missed a rather big aspect from the game: Ashina's soldiers almost exclusively wear less-modern armors, while the Interior Ministry's soldiers exclusively wear the modern ones. I think it was an intentional design choice, to show that Ashina is much less advanced than the Ministry's force. Not from just armories, but from their firearms technology as well. Which shows how much effort From Software has poured into this game's visual and narrative design.

Greetings honourable Metatron! To elaborate on 14:20 "Junk". I believe "Junk" came from the Chinese (especially South East) pronunciation of boat, ship and what ever vessels. From the sound of it now people refer "Junk" as Chinese vessel with rather square looking bow (front). Since Chinese ship building technologies were tailored for river and near by oceans, which means the vessels has to park (?) right on the beach head of river bank or sea shore.

Robert is the Armoured Warrior's son - the lore behind him is that he and his son (Robert) travelled to Japan from Europe in order to seek out the mythical Rejuvenating Waters so that they could extend Robert's life, presumably the boy is sick or his father just wants him to live as long as possible. Either way, we never actually encounter Robert in the game, but we _do_ find his firecrackers, which become the shinobi tool "Loaded Firecrackers". Apparently the way Robert and his father funded their trip to Japan was by selling the firecrackers. Personally I'm hoping we get an expansion on their story in DLC or a future game. Especially since the Armoured Warrior's defeat involves him falling into a pit, rather than him actually being sliced open or impaled. And seeing as he fell into a forested area, I think the idea that his fall was broken enough by trees/foliage for him to survive would still work if From Software decide to expand on that part of the story. Really cool fight in the game, either way.

I think in the game's lore, and what you see in the gate battlefield, is that the Ashina clan is being worn down by constant battles and the only troops they have left are the wounded and old troops, if you look at them they're wearing bandages and are bald and disheveled looking.

Mentioned in another comment, that is most definitely a great sword. What I also like is it is used for the same purpose those swords were historically. You would retreat and heavily armored dudes with great big two handed swords would swing around In big sweeping motions to hold the position. Allowing for others to escape. You wouldn't really wanna get hit by one of those. They were also used to hold key positions like bridges. A heavy armored guy with such a sword could take up the whole bridge.

small correction, the armored knight is roberts father, not robert. And as a matter of fact, the son is probably called roberto, and not robert. When the armoured knight falls you can hear him say roberto. Of course, this could be attributed to the japanese pronunciation of the name robert. But (if my history is correct) i believe that really only portuguese and spanish were allowed inside the country, i think it may be actually an error by the english translators who thought that it was robert, but it was actually roberto.

The knight and his son may as well be italian, so the name roberto would still be fitting, if that's so then the game would be even better for metatron...

The name Roberto is rooted on latin, and as such it can exist in every latin derivated tongue, however of all the latin derivated tongues there are 3 that more oftenly finish male names with an o, those being spanish, portuguese and italian, so of all european countries those 3 are the most probable origin countries for roberto and his dad.

On the armor note, the older style of armor is very popular with the ashina soldiers and generals, where as the central forces are generally equipped with armor that looks just like that newer style. Also I always pictured ashina to be in the north half of Japan which would be further away from European influence in southern japan.

14:00 About those Portuguese that accidentally reached Japan, I may add that they were not merchants, but adventurers. Their leader, Fernão Mendes Pinto, later wrote his memoirs of the event, describing how the storm ended up making him land "in a country where everyone kills each other" [sic]. They traded weapons because it's what they mostly had (as they made a living out of either hiring themselves to wealthy Chinese, or by attacking ships/marriage processions in China). That said, the 300,000 firearms Metatron later quotes is probably not an exaggeration: three years later, Fernão Mendes Pinto decided to return to Japan with a proper cargo of firearms, since the ones he had left behind seemed to have been so well-liked, and he wrote down that, to his amazement, the country "was completely full of arquebuses" when he arrived, which he says it was a stunning feat, as "they had to have made all of them in the span of 3 years".

笠 having the same pronunciation with 傘 is a typical occasion in Japanese when they assign the han characters to a Japan-originated word. I'm guessing the concept of 傘 came into the language later and with the same functionality it and took over the pronunciation. However, 笠 is actually used in Japanese faithfully to the original meaning in hanyu which means a rain hat made of bamboo.

Great work! One very minor correction though, Metatron...the european warrior found in Sekiro isn't named Robert. That's actually his son's name. The armored warrior is the father of Robert.

Interesting video! I appreciate it. However, please check your audio levels for the next one, as this one was audibly peaking, leading to scratches and distortions that are very distracting. Try recording at a lower level and amplify in post instead, if it's not loud enough.

Will you review some of the fantasy creatures like the headless and maybe the immortal centipedes?

Idk if Metatron really played the game further. But I think he would be surprised if he took a look at the Fountainhead Palace, with the Okami warriors having arms and armor representing that of the Kamakura era samurai

Also, about Robert's father, I'd say his sword falls into the category of a fantasy greatsword (MAYBE a bearing sword). I say that because the sword is pretty massive. I mean Robert's father is pretty big himself, but even for him the sword is pretty big. It stylized, as are many of Miyazaki's designs. I do like the shape of the sword. Even though the size is bog, the proportions would be (for the most part) correct of a European sword like that. I just appreciate the cross guard isn't fat or too long. Overall, I geeked over Armored Warrior as much as Metatron did. Plus, he halfswords... Even if it's just to control the large blade, I love halfswording shown off in games.
