What I find so fascinating about From's games is how weird their design process is. It seems like the team designs an enormous amount of mechanics and elements for a game, then those elements go through multiple levels of vetting and pruning. What we are left with is a solid game with remnants of cool features... that have no real point. Imagine a world in which all of these features were explored to their fullest extent. From's games would be even MORE dense then they already are.

A quick note about losing Bestowal to lightning - when you said you even lose it when you deflect it, you... well, you didn't. Deflect it that is. You only blocked the lightning, which causes you to still take the chip damage even though you can still perform a reversal. If you time the mid-air block correctly you can deflect/parry the lightning like any other attack, and won't take damage. You'd probably still lose the bestowal as the lightning reversal is technically another sword buff that may overwrite it, but it's worth checking properly

You're correct about the chip damage being the one removing the buff, but parrying the lightning in time or not will still give you chip damage.
