I’m the same age as Selena and I went from really liking her and thinking she was so relatable at 16 to being seriously annoyed by her. We’re 31, which is not old by any means, but it’s definitely too old for a lot of her most recent behavior. It’s hard to find her relatable when she acts like a teenager as a grown ass adult.

I don’t think the internet understands that people with mental disorders go online as well, and you’re going to see some unlikeable and abnormal tendencies from them from time to time. @@dotcom3015 I too, have chronic mental illnesses. I’m not criticizing her constant back and forth engagement of social media, I’m criticizing her apparent need to CONSTANTLY ANNOUNCE it. It’s annoying. I don’t have to like her or be a fan to have an opinion on it. Even though I *AM* a fan…I don’t believe in blind loyalty, and honestly her recent behavior is making me less of a fan. I’m allowed to have that opinion just like your allowed to disagree with it. Now, I like to believe you’re trying to come from a good place, but your comment is making it seem like those of us with mental illnesses can’t control of our actions, which is incredibly stigmatizing. Yes, mental illness makes functioning day to day MUCH harder and we have to work MUCH harder to be on top of things, but we are NOT lowly animals who are slaves to our every instinct. IF bipolar is really to blame, it’s on HER to get help with that, ESPECIALLY as an adult (with access to the best resources no less). Edit: fixed grammar

@@Angi3_6 that’s you, girlie. Your experience doesn’t cover everyone with mental illnesses. And not all mental illnesses are the same, since you didn’t claim to have bipolar. I’ve seen mental breakdowns online like Gabbie hanna, Kanye west even that one airplane lady. Sure, I dislike Gabbie and Kanye, and they were wrong for what they did during these mental breaks, but I disagree with the way they were made into a spectacle. People with mental disorders are going to occasionally have outbursts, but does anyone have the time or energy to care about each one? If you want to avoid ever seeing their outbursts or any symptoms of their disorder, just don’t follow them. The only way that you’ll never see these celebrities have outbursts is if pr completely controls their account. And some people do want Selena to do that. But that’s not her choice. Selena does get help. But it’s not a fix all. People who get therapy are still going to have that mental disorder, The lows will still be there. And you might see symptoms if that person is on sm. So if you know Selena has some behaviors that annoy you, then don’t go on her account. Key word: annoy, because y’all are really acting like sm break announcements is a topic worth debate. You wouldn’t even see that Selena announced a break, unless someone is pushing Selena Gomez updates on you. Just block the person giving you updates on people you don’t like. I’m a Selena fan, and I dont even keep track of when she announces a break. It’s not about blind loyalty, it’s about not obsessing over her every social media post and comment.

she’s been doing this for years, people are just now noticing…she claimed during 2019 that she hadn’t been on social media in 4 years and made it a talking point during rare promo, but she was fighting with haters in the comments that four years (and kept announcing her breaks, admitting it was her in real time). Fans claimed any social media post was her management, but the whole point of a social media team/manager is to avoid public meltdowns, not make it look like a star is embarrassing herself. She’ll be fine and unaffected by this, but she’s obviously addicted to social media

Some of you need to realize that humans aren’t one dimensional people have flaws real flaws not quirky haha flaws but real ones, you can be the villain in someones story and a hero in another. Selena has stayed by Taylor’s side in 2016 despite the negative backlash she got from it Taylor has stated before that she appreciates resilience and trust in her friendships and that she would never let those that stood by her go. Selena also suffers from bipolar as far as I know and my mom has it too it’s frustrating and sometimes she can be very irrational irritating and over all careless life isn’t easy having someone with mental illness but I’m never letting her go cause in the end she has her good moments too when she sobers up from her episodes

Taylor stayed silent never did or said or even liked a shady instagram post about Demi for years (I like to think that maybe part of Taylor sympathies with Demi’s struggles) in the end it seems like they are civil last I remember Demi thanked Taylor for dancing and singing during her performance

There is nothing I dislike most than when people announce on social media that they are taking a “break” from social media. You don’t need to announce it if you really want to stay away. I know people first hand that do that all the time, and then a week later I start seeing their memes back and tacky posts on all platforms lol😂

I think people forget she has bipolar disorder. If you suffer with bipolar it will cause you to go back and forth. She might feel motivated to go online when she’s manic and if she’s depressed she might want to fallback.

I honestly do have a soft spot for Selena. I think she moves from a genuine place, but with social media becoming its own little Hollywood, she needs to have her PR team guide her with social media now. Back when the millennials were the young adults, things were a lot more forgiving. Not anymore. It’s time to get a team on board.

Her whole persona is being a victim of some sort and people who are constantly giving her the benefit of the doubt are part of the problem. The Hailey hate was brutal, I honestly don’t know how she survived it. Especially since most of the stuff is not even true. Y’all need to open your eyes. It sounds like Selena is aware of her problems, but she isn’t taking active steps to change, and she lacks self-awareness of how she comes off. While Taylor isn’t perfect by comparison, one thing I will say for her is she’s learned to curate her socials with her team, posting mostly professional stuff (and the occasional silly post) and having a separate, official “Taylor Nation” account to drive engagement more frequently for her current projects. The “Taylor Swift” accounts don’t even follow people, so that likely limits what she’ll see if she’s the one posting on it, although the TN accounts do follow people…she has “the best of both worlds,” curating what she wants to see with the help of her team.

I honestly think that celebs need their phones taken away. As much as it can be used to connect with fans it’s also a negative bc whenever there’s any sort of issue they feel the need to respond even when it’s not important or necessary and at the end of the day they are the ones who look like clowns.
