Don't you think that large pepper spray can might be a little too much for the confinement of being indoors. I'm just wondering if I might end up eating some too if I use that big spray can. I think it would work I just think it might be an overwhelming amount indoors so much so that I may become a victim also.

just a couple of thoughts. On my glock I mounted a laser sight, great for high stress and night shooting. Instead of the zip ties put in your bag a good set of handcuffs. They are stronger than zip ties and can be used as nuckel dusters in a pinch. Great video thanks for your info.

Hi Sootch, I have changed everything that I have in AA-size over to the new Energizer Ultimate LITHIUM battery's "I'm starting to see the same Lithium battery's in other sizes now also." The use-by-date on the packs I bought last week are 03 of 2023. So, no need to replace battery's each year. Plus, they hold much more energy. Two other advantages they are 30% lighter than the old Energizer battery's and they are much less likely to corrode the insides out of all our cool stuff. Nice video!

I have to disagree with you here Sootch. Simplicity is the key to high stress situations. You may function with this kit, but 90% of people would just end up fumbling around and dropping stuff all over the place. Keep it simple. A reliable handgun with a good tactical light, and possibly a second magazine. I totally agree with your firearm choice. I utilize the exact same handgun. The Glock 30 is a amazing little package.

I'd add electronic ear protection (so you can still hear what's going on but not go deaf if you have to shoot) and one or two disposable flash cameras (if you're lucky, you'll blind the intruder and have a picture -don't forget to close your eyes). Lastly, do not say anything to police until talking with your lawyer "I'm sorry officer but I'm too upset to talk right now".

Good vid and info. First saw the concept from Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch; great idea. On the cell phone issue, one thought deals with always having a charged cell phone available, which can be a challenge for some of us who are always managing the dozens of recharge batteries in our lives (even have for the lawnmower). Many of us upgrade our cell phones (esp. if you have kids) and your old cell phones can call 911 (even with NO active service); so can always ready in the same grab spot.

Another home protection tip is use a baby monitor as a voice scare tactic. You keep the end generally near the baby at your bed side & place the other speaker portion someplace in your home near an entrance so that if your home is broken into & you are getting ready to protect yourself you can startle the intruder by yelling through that simple device making them think there may be someone behind them. Keeping your car keys & car alarm button handy is also a plus to frighten an intruder away.

The video was excellent! very practical and tactical in the approach of putting together a home defense bag. One thing that sounds unorthodox that i would include in the bag is a whistle.......if the police do come in to your home a whistle is a universal Sound of distress, and is a modern day audio S.O.S. THX

Just subscribed. Like your vids. One addition to the contents of your bag, seeing as you are going to the trouble of having all this stuff packed would be a pair of latex gloves. Just in case you feel compelled to offer first aid to a family member, friend, law-abiding other, or even the poor intruder you just ventilated.

What are you using for your magazine extensions. I have the Pierce Pg30 but I've always thought they were a little short. The ones on your pistol look bigger than mine. Would you please tell me what they are and where I can obtain them. I use the Pierce Pg39 on my g26 and they work best for the 10rnd mag. My favorite for the g26 is an x-grip mag sleeve on a g19, 15rnd mag. That is perfect but I could do better on my g30 than that thin pg30

yes, the bag is a good idea. I keep my bag in my car trunk, but no gun in it, because I live in EU. it is a small US army camo bag and I can`t close it - it`s so full. I keep even a sun protection creme, fishing stuff, swiss army knife with everything inside it, some stuff to heal wounds,AA batteries, several lights, matches (Mcgyver...),kompass, whistle, tools like a screwdriver, thermometer (the Alps region), binoculars. It is all put in little bags and attached on a belt to carry around.

Clint Smith talked about a "just in case" type bad in one of his Web Blast segments here on KZbin. Always thought it was a good idea. Yours is a bit more heavily stocked, but either way forethought is the key to avoid standing in the dark without what you need. Keep up the good work.

don't get me wrong there is a use for non-lethal in the case that you brought up. Beanbag rounds/rubber bullets, Tazer, O.C. spray are all viable tools (hence the IDB everything at your grasp), which is also why a lethal back up is in there in the off chance that the invader is there for a purpose that may include attacking the defending person and their family. It is about using adequate force when its required, even if it comes down to the invader or your family.

I remember reading somewhere that many self defense instructors are recommending the use of Wasp spray, the bug killing kind, as a self defense alternative to pepper spray. The reasons, the spray is in a larger compressed can with a directed spray nozzle that is highly accurate and the spray has the same effect as pepper spray, but less come back to the sprayer. Just a thought.

I just got my bail out bags today. Did you swap this bag for the bail out when you got it? Also, have you updated your bag any? I'm setting on of mine up for home defense like you did. So far all I've got is 2 mags for my saiga, flashlight, pistol and mags, and that's about it. It's hard to think in terms of "what if" for inside your own home.

Enjoy your videos. Lot's of good edvice and ideas. One thing I would caution the viewrs on: Do not try and handcuff any attackers. Keep your distance if at all possible. Criminals learn, practice, and refine their skills. It would be very possible for a home invader to disarm a home owner with little or no training. Also usually, law enforcement has a cover officer (minimum) when cuffing suspects. I would advise making the suspect lie prone, facedown, palms out, spread eagle, until police arrive

I think this is a great idea and I agree with all the items in the bag except for the pepper spray, standard pepper sprays (esspeacially like the one pictured) fired indoors in such confined spaces run the risk of incapacitating you just as quickly as the intruder. That being said I'd personally recommend something allong the lines of a foam or gel spray.

Aloha sootch00. Check out the elastic buttstock shell holders from Uncle Mikes. Model 88481 is a 9-loop model for rifle rounds (also works great on .410 shells). Model 88491 is a 5-loop model for shotgun shells (works great for 12 Gauge, and will hold 10 of the Aguila 1 inch 12 Gauge shells or .410). I load these up for either 45LC/410 for the Judge, or with various 12 Gauge shells for the various shotguns. Nice thing is, you grab them and wear them on your forearm.....instant ammo access.

My point was to **add** to the bag of deadly force weapons one that was not deadly force, for situations where deadly force was not the best choice. Suppose your neighbor, a vet, is mentally ill, and comes into your home. You know he is not armed and not ultimately a threat, but is painting your house interior and won't stop. Do you shoot him dead?

I did something quite different. I have my Glock 23 handy but I also have two red flasing strobes and a siren set up downstairs. I can activate these by a simple remote control next to my bed. The stobes should disorient any intruder and the siren will hide the noise as I position myself at the top of the stairway where the bedrooms are. Hopefully these will also scare the intruder away and help the police locate my house.

The Sournews, that is a good thing to think about overall though, you need to skip the "tactical flashlight" on your gun and go w/ a mag light, simply because if you have a flashlight in the dark and if the threat is armed, more than likely they are shooting for that flashlight so it is a good idea to have something like a mag light. It is metal and if needed you can beat someone w/ it, don't forget to keep the light away from the body.

A Taser is just a step in the Use of Force Continuum for Self Defense. The top rung is covered by lethal force alternatives. Non-lethal defense tools are great, but sometimes do not give the user the results needed. Plus, in the U.S., a civilian is not "authorized" to have the same kind of Taser as a police officer. Where theirs can deliver repeated shocks to force compliance, the civilian version is a one shot deal. They say it's fire and run. You tell taser and they refund you with a new one.

My first glock is on my nightstand, night sights not discernable from the room, and is my "holy crap, someone is at the bedroom door" gun. Anyway, on the belt aside from the second glock is a tactical (not a silly little maglite), cell phone and magazine holder with loaded mag. The rest of this guys ideas may be well and good, but for me, I'll tend to extra stuff after I save my nervous, adrenaline soaked self

Although I like the idea of this, I think the bag idea would be best if you had to leave your home. Fumbling around with a bag full of stuff you may or not need just seems like not the best idea when faced with a intruder. I have protected my property with a pistol equipped with a light before, and did grab my cell phone and put it in my pocket to call 911 . I do like the long zip tie idea, beats holding a gun on someone for 20 minutes until the PD arrives. Good video.

Surprising someone with a laser that says move and this is where you get shot is pretty darn effective say some police I've spoken to. The idea behind a firearm is not kill the other guy but rather protect yourself. It comes down to legal proceedings at the night's end. Often times, the threat of force is better than the actuality. Being sure of your target requires establishing you have a target. It's very difficult to justify shooting someone in the back in court. Just some reasons to consider
