Sad Boyz is a comedy podcast about feelings. Every week we take an emotionally resonant topic and discuss it while getting side-tracked and making dumb jokes.
This is the first video episode of Sad Boyz! Today we're talking about self-esteem and self-confidence. Jarvis has always had low self-esteem and jordan has always been full of himself so we try to understand where that comes from.
Also in this episode, Jordan has finally listened to Hamilton and we get his first reaction.

I love this episode! Your energy and dynamic here are so lovable. I'm on the older side of millennials. I have limited experience with guys/ men being emotionally open and vulnerable. I'll be completely honest right now, I feel like Jarvis captured my internal conflict better than anyone in the world ever has. When I was a kid I just sat down, staring at an empty glass for years while everyone was eager and busy learning to fill theirs, then they got into groups and began filling theirs together and all of them decided that having cups full of ice was the goal in life, then one day I realized I was very far behind because all the people around me had cups with some ice in it and mine was still empty, so I dunked a bunch of the water in at once, spilled a ton of it over, desperately ran around trying to find someone to help me fill my cup but realizing that I'm so far behind that nobody really wanted to help me, and my parents were constantly reminding me that my cup wasn't as full and I should try harder to fill it and catch up rather than teaching me ways to do that, so I get into a relationship with someone who promises that they'll fill it for me (as long as I fill theirs), and then they give me a picture of ice to look at while they pour out all the water I had and turn up the thermostat, and bust my freezer, and now I'm 21 still learning how to pour water properly, building a freezer from scratch, I still don't have friends, constantly telling myself that I'd be a burden to any potential friends because who wants to help someone like this who has an empty glass, no freezer, and has to build everything from scratch? Jesus. Jarvis read me for filth. But hey, I've got some ice at the bottom of my cup! And I'm actually filling it!

Also, I totally feel like maybe this insecurity comes from a combination of incidents in preschool and kindergarten where I was a total asshole, then one kid called me a monster and I kind of internalized that. Wow

Honestly? People like me want to help people like you. I'm 28 and still firmly wedged in struggle central, but I've learned a lot of things to help stay afloat. By the time I was your age, I had ruined my credit and put myself in thousands in debt, along with losing a full-ride scholarship to my mental health. No one wanted to help me because I was a trash fire. When I feel slightly stable, I get so angry. People feel like this, then why did I go through years of that? Why am I still going through the effects of my mistakes? Well... So I can tell you what worked and what didn't. So I can tell you how to do things when the normal instructions don't work. Ever figure out how to fix something yourself, and you find yourself within a week explaining to someone else how to do it? When your cup goes empty for years, you learn to make a sip last longer than most, and a full cup feels like far too much to keep all to yourself. So if you need help sometime, shoot a message. Hope you are in a better place now.

Stoicism has been a fantastic resource for maintaining internal validation. There aren't too many books from the sources, and the reads aren't as "deep" as most other philosphies, making it pretty easy to understand. I highly recommend reading and living it. Gregory B Sadler has a good playlist to start out for people who don't have time to read.

Same feelings on stoicism here. I'm currently reading "The Beginner's Guide to Stoicism: Tools for Emotional Resilience & Positivity" by Matthew J. Van Natta, and I'm not very far in, but I really enjoy it so far. I'm learning to have more control over my emotions and have more self-love, as well as more peace of mind.
