Well done Helen, an excellent talk about a complex subject. The work and effort behind what you are doing comes through, and the proof of the success is evident. It is a great opportunity for others to learn from what you are doing.

Clear and interesting presentation of a radical idea, with helpful examples of many of the principles.

As someone writing a paper on this I appreciate the perspective but I think the structural issues of requiring employees who are willing to engage in group think and fit the consensus of the group for approval is a weakness. It denies people who are mavericks and who seek clarity of roles and hierarchy. It’s of course a selection bias type of thing. People who threaten the groups perception of itself won’t be hired since group approval is needed. But they also wouldn’t seek such a role either. The problem is if a self managing team has highly motivated people and a clear and motivating mission then it works. But if there is lack of clarity then it only takes one person to lose morale to take down the team. And when the environment becomes more complex employees would prefer to focus on their roles then have to consider the strategic implications of all their actions.

I needed your presentation. Thank you. Putting together a proposal to management to form a small autonomous team of three. Its culture will be based on Lencioni's Humble-Hungry-Smart model. I want to use your ideas on psychological safety.

So let me get this straight. A woman studied theology in the 21st century and was then deeply disappointed that her job was not satisfactory? Isn't she lucky to just have a job? Then she created a self manahed team where she and other people like her had all the power on deciding who can join the team thereby eliminating any chance of other people with high motivation and better skills to join and maybe force them out of the job and this is somehow a good thing? Is this what I just heard?

Teams are more complicated than the individuals that comprise it. The most capable person is not going to make a team successful if said person does not "click" with the other team members. Also, the most capable person in a team can't mold the other team members to work a certain way. It has to be a group effort and the need for conversations is what I will take from this video.
