I really like this framework. Going to think more about it, especially your theory that these build on each other. The one I tend to have a negative reaction to is media (vs neutral towards others). I wonder if culture is distorted once it hits the media layer. At least the way I think about media, it’s a way of communicating that is by definition supported by advertising. I wonder if there’s a way to affect culture by somehow skipping media (at least mass media)? Or maybe the move is to find all the people strong in self and people and together build a better media bridge towards culture? Look forward to reading more from you about this!

the different ways that media has evolved has fundamentally changed the relationships between people, nations and religions, and they've also changed our relationship with ourselves... with what stories we tell and how we tell them, even if it's just a difference of speaking on video versus writing, the medium can fundamentally change how the message is understood and received and reacted to... I think you're right that we're still just starting to see all the ways that social media will change the relationships between the building blocks of civilization. Do you have any idea what new changes we might see?

Visa, would you rather have self sense or people sense? Why?

interesting question. I think they’re very related in a yin-yang sort of way, or at least it is for me. I think having one makes it easier to cultivate the other, and in practice they’re probably best cultivated mostly simultaneously. I think I’d go so far as to say that the self is just another person, so I’d go with people-sense, I think
