I learned how to ride on a red 1983 Yamaha Maxim 650 my brother bought when I was 19. I hated! Hated! Let me stress...HATED!..the way that bike sounded since my buddies rode Harleys and I couldn't afford one...but would ride it anyway..because hey...it was a free bike for me to ride. Now I'm 55 and the sound of this bike in this video is exactly the same way I remembered it. But now..I LOVE! LOVE! Let me stress LOVE THE SOUND OF THIS BIKE! Brings back lots of great memories. I pray George is blessed with it. And I love how you guys pray up with your customers before they ride away. BTW..my claim to fame is I'm the guy whose ribs Sean broke at the 1:00 min mark of his birthday video...hahaha..thanks for that! God bless guys!

@@yeahbee8237 pretty common for Born Again Christians. They always come across more genuine and true about their faith. It can sometimes spill over in to becoming a bit of a fundamentalist about their faith but usually they are the nicest Christians you'll find. I say that as a total Agnostic who doesn't like organised religions as a rule but have absolutely no issues with personal faith and belief, whatever gets people through their day as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else then all power to them.

My first bike is a 1968 CB750 that i'm currently restoring, shamless plug, I started putting the videos here on KZbin as I'm working on it so if you're bored, would appreciate a view or two. My videos might not be as good as these guys, but hoping they help or inspire others to fix bikes. Also, picked the bike up at an auction for $2.75, that's including auction fees so plenty of room to get the bike running and still make a little money on it. The engine was locked up and missing some parts, but it'll get there. Keep up the great videos!

I remember my first bike , 1986 Kawasaki Vulcan 750. It was a lot of fun to ride! I'm 60 now and had to pickup another one to add to my collection. My first bike was a silver '82 Yamaha Seca 550 shaft drive with the blue trim. She wasn't very fast but looked fast to me. I paid $750 and she already had 41,000 miles on her. I got her the summer right before I turned 21 and rode her straight out to Cali with two buddies that were in a toyota pick up. She gave me trouble in a rainstorm in Virginia beach the day we left and not a lick of problems after aside from running out of gas a couple times. Cruised through god awful heat in death valley, snow storm through sierras, 18hr deluge through Nebraska and got me all the way home months later in one piece with many a story to tell. Wish I had treated her better n still had her...

You guys are so awsome! I built my first bike with my fathers old lawn mower engine after it caught fire and he just burried it with dirt to put it out. I used an old bicycle, bent a metal rod to support the enngine over the front wheel, drilled a hockey puck and attached it to the shaft, bolted the engine onto a peice of plywood and hinged it over the front wheel support. I had the cleanest rim in town! 25 cents of gas and drove everywhere. I was about 10 years old when I did this. Needless to say, many real bikes later and 40 years, I'm fortunate enough to still ride! Great videos and great storey!

@@kaybee7504 yes they are actually pretty collectible- especially in good running condition..that Japanese two-stroke engine is pretty indestructible so most can get running pretty easily and parts are still available for those old bikes..i have continued to keep my eyes on them and in mint condition and low miles i have seen them advertised for $1900 with most at a mid-range of around $1050.

I watch the show all the time good stuff Sean I’m watching a show on the $700 bike bring me back to my first bike was a 69 Yamaha twinjet 100 man I thought that bike was the coolest thing and then the next year and 70 I got the same bike the YL1-E which had the electric start, I’m 66 now and still Ride daily, love seeing all of the great old bikes that you feature. Also a man of God rates right up there with air.

My first real bike was the 550 Maxim. I can't remember what year it was, nor how I came across it, but almost 30 years later I still tell stories about that, and smile every time I think back on it. I recently bought 2 classic honda bikes that I'm fixing up, and remembering all the enjoyment I got out of riding, and especially on that bike. All kinds of stories about my 22,000 miles in 2 years on the old Maxim 550!

My first bike was an '82 Maxim 650. You're right perfect first bike! I got it for $500 on Craigslist, and I also sold it after owning it for 3 years for $1200 to a first time rider. It was in a small wreck before I got it, took about $150 in parts to get it back on the road. Taught me a lot about bikes, and how to work on them.

Man my first bike was a 85 v30 magna and learned everything from that bike. I understand the fondness. My girl friend and kids learned to ride on it too. Had it for years and got rid of it because I had 2 other bikes and never rode it anymore, it needed another rider to love and respect it! Because of that bike I’m still on two wheels 15 years later and will be till I can’t hold them up anymore. Great channel and people u guys are, thanks for the fond memories. My first daily rider was a 86 honda magna v65 aswell! My step-dad gave it to me for Christmas about 10 years ago and its a beast. Starts runs and is super reliable. I have a few project bikes (6😅) and we just got my wife a navi so she can get comfortable riding then hopefully upgrades to one of the bigger bikes. Awesome Chanel love this type of stuff. these old bikes and bikes like the navi are putting more and more people on 2 weels than ever before and it's amazing. Stay safe.

My first bike was a 1985 Yamaha Virago 700. I sold it when I upgraded to a 1987 FZ700. Years later, I walked in to the local shop and they had a 1985 Virago on the floor. I bought it again! I've since moved on (again), but I will always have a soft spot for that old Virago.

I have to admit to sharing Sean's enthusiasm for 80's Honda V45 Magnas. I bought one for $750 about 12 years ago, while I was laid off during the recession. I was applying for job after job, trying to find something... anything... I could do. I took a break from searching for work online and came across an ad for the bike, right in the same town where I lived. Previous owner said it had sat in his shed for years, not running due to a bad fuel pump. The bike was gorgeous - beautiful candy apple red color - and barely a scratch on it. He was kind enough to trailer it to my home for me, too. He was right - the fuel pump was bad, but that wasn't the only problem with it. The igniter was bad, too. I found a good used igniter online, but couldn't find an exact replacement fuel pump, so I hooked up a universal low-pressure pump (that met the basic specs for volume and pressure), and the bike started right up. Put in a fresh battery for good measure and drove that bike for 4 years before I sold it for more than I paid for it. That wasn't my first bike, though. That distinction goes to a 1972 Kawasaki model S2, 350 triple that my father picked up at an auction for about $300 back in 1987. I rode that bike all over Chicago, until it tried to kill me one day while I was riding to work on the highway and the 2-stroke oil injection pump failed while I was doing 70mph. Fun times.

I'll never forget the day I bought my first (and current) bike. I never had my license and needed to get a vehicle for a new job. Saved up and bought a brand new 2018 Klx250. Was so proud, my dad who rode as kid was there with me too. After stalling about 15 times in the parking lot I pulled out onto the road and this bad ass Harley chopper guy rode by and gave me the biker wave. Made it home without incident and have been obsessed ever since.

my first bike IS a 1983 Honda Goldwing Interstate. Bought it from my 89 year old Uncle when he decided his reflexes were slowing down just a little bit. Been a good bike for the last 5 years. It's in the shop now for a new set of head gaskets. Can't wait to get it back. At 63 I feel like a kid when I ride. Hope I make it to 89. My Uncle is still Kickin' ass at 94. I plan on riding his Old Wing to his funeral in 10 or 20 years.

I had the 550 Maxim and broke the speedo in the first month . Any bike with an 85mph speedo that still works has not been ridden to it's potential . I won alot of races on that 6 speed 550 !!!!! Still fond of the bike 30+ years later

Here's the strat for new bike owners, if your looming for a cruiser get one with highway and bag bars. I dropped my bike a few times, always on a dirt rode but thats beside the point, it just sits on those bars. Makes it easy to pick up and saves any important parts from being damaged

Awesome! They're great machines. I picked a XJ650 up for free, brought it back to life with the help of a friend, found and replaced missing pieces, put over 20,000 miles on it (including moving out to the west coast from the midwest), and after 6 years of faithful service and no issues I sold it for $1800

1979, she was a '75 Honda CB550. Paid $400 for her. Metallic orange and black. I stripped the paint, rattle canned a deep maroon color on the tank and bought gold edge-trim and two gold "Honda" emblems off a Goldwing and put black rubber gaiters on the front forks and wrapped the seat in black cowhide. I put 30,000 miles on that bike including 3 round trips from Houston to Daytona that were non-stop both ways...that bike purred at 85 mph and topped out at 115mph. Thanks for taking me back there! (edit add) I also chose this bike over a 1972 Firebird Formula 400 that I could have bought for $800.

I drove an 82 Yamaha Maxim 650 in the early 80's. Great bike. I put 80,000 miles on it. Mine had a factory optioned step seat with a full backrest and a full sissy bar per the DOT rules.

A friend was given a Yamaha XJ 750, the touring edition with the big eagle beak fairing and saddle bags, crazy huge seat... after a few years of doing nothing with it, he was gonna throw it away. I rescued it, trailered it home, worked on it for 16 weekends. It had sat for 7 years at least. I have less than a hundred bucks invested in it, still own it, have more plans for it. Its not my first bike, but i agree, they're awesome durable machines, great for beginners.
