I've been driving since 1988 and when I went to work for a company that had automatics on my test drive the guy that went with me kept laughing and saying it's an automatic because I kept reaching for the shifter that wasn't there lol. But I definitely like having the automatic in rush hour stop and go traffic lol but I'm still a gear jammer at heart!

I've never been real fond of the basic two-tone paint scheme like this one has, but this truck is freakin gorgeous. I love that orange color... Being able to go with a bigger mattress is really nice. I'm 6'2" 200 lbs and I have slept on the 36 inch mattresses for years. They are fine, but I like having a little more room because I move around a lot when I'm sleeping. Even with the bigger mattress, there is still plenty of room to move around... It's hard to tell in a video, but that truck sounds like it's really quiet in the cab when you were going down the road. As far as the automatic transmission is concerned, I drove truck for over 40 years. My Grandfather taught me how to drive in one of his log trucks that had two stick 5x4 transmissions. I can definitely see having an automatic if the truck is mostly driven in town, but I spent years driving in the worst weather imaginable, and a lot of that was on mountain passes. I've heard quite a few horror stories about guys running over mountain passes in a lot of snow, and spinning out. In really bad weather, I want to have 100% control over what gear I'm in and when I need to shift.

Im not sure about the 589, though before i got out of otr you could switch between auto and manual. Still think about going back to otr despite everything going on. As for the rest, looks like they made it pretty comfortable. And honestly on the paint, orange and black just really work well together.

I still use Spicer 5 x 4s because they're the only transmissions that can take upwards of 3000 ft/lbs of torque my C18s make. I have 5 of them I built from the ground up (367 high hood, T800 high hood, and 3 C500s) all are tridems with Meritor rears and Neway ADZ-378 suspensions. They're heavy haulers with Trail King trailers and they paid for themselves the 1st year.

I am not a trucker but I have been a fan of anything large truck and bigger. I love how Peterbilt has not majorly changed their well known hood and nose design.
@robertpoudrette448317 сағат бұрын
Peterbilt has done a much better job with the 589 than Kenworth with the W990. KW could have gone the exact same way with the wider cab, just change the hood to adapt to the new cab and voila. A new truck. As for people just complaining left and right because of a newer more spacious and more confortable cab... Western Star did the exact same thing in the 1990's with the 4900's. Peterbilt picked up the same recipe and applied it to the 589.

Greetings from Europe...One correction since the channel host said that Porsche is doing away with manual transmissions - there is none of that... ! If you mean non-911 models, then fine, but the 911 still has manual transmissions, although the 911 GTS no longer has that option. Models like the GT3 are still on sale with manual transmissions, as are models like the Carrera S or Carrera T. They made a HUGE amount of money at Porsche selling the 911 S/T (manual transmission only) and 911 Sport Classic (manual transmission only), which are now worth the most as used cars.

Its the Peterbilt version of the Kenworth 990 and has nothing in common with my 359s and 379s other than the Peterbilt logo. Fake stacks, junk engines, automatic transmissions, and the retarded front windshield NO THANK YOU. I'll keep my gliders and keep rebuilding them and all you wanna bes can have this modern EPA junk. I built a Signature 600 I bought that was in a wrecked IHOP Eagle. I tore the engine down, machined the head and block .0005 and the cylinder liner bore seats. I cut the heads for a wire oring, put in conial valves, and had ATL grind me a billet steel cam. I got a Full Tilt manifold and turbo from Pittsburgh Power, and heavy duty torsion damper. I have a new crank balanced, got billet steel rods, and forged steel pistons. This engine is bulletproof and was proof positive if built right the dual cam ISX can do everything a C15, C16, and C18 can do and actually get fuel milage. Its in a K100 Aerodyne hauling produce that goes over the scales at 75,000+ and gets 8 mpg (depending on terrain, mountains not so much) in cabover that cruises 70 mph @ 1300 rpm and can go over most any hill @ 70 loaded with lettuce. It gets it power from the turbos increased boost pressure, the engine cam having more exhaust duration, the lobe separation giving the cylinders more boost pressure, a marine fuel pump and injectors, and the Full Tilt manifold pulling the heat out of the exhaust. The ISX engine needs the exhaust valves to open sooner and close at the same time as a stock cam. The intake valves need to open later and have the turbocharger and piston working against each other giving the cylinder pressure to increase dramatically. I used this when I raced turbocharged motorcycle and used it in Cummins ISX and the results are 768 hp @ 2000 rpm and 2575 torque @ 1300 touching the ground.

Have been driving for 43 years automatics have come along way. I’m currently in a freightliner with an automatic have always been a Peterbilt man pack car has dropped the ball on sleeper design for many years. I had an old 379 with a queen size bed. There was not much cabinet space but I had the bed for myself and the wife. With today’s technology and advancements is still baffles me why there isn’t a trucking company that gets rid of the back of sleeper faring and just make it all sleeper so we can have a queen size bed and storage. I hate to say it but freightliner and Volvo has everybody beat for storage without going for a custom sleeper. I love the color choices on the truck curious can you put 10 in stacks on that will the doors clear? Once in a while you can still spot Peterbilt with a queen size bed because it has the big door on the passenger side of the sleeper. Some people called them bed-and-breakfast sleepers, twin mattress, 38 inch full mattress 54 inch queen size 60 inch these companies are mixing a huge market. Just my opinion. More options would be fantastic with out buying an 80 inch sleeper. Gutting it out to redesign to do what these manufactures should be already doing it sad don’t get me wrong. I love that truck.

Ok so will not throw you under the bus for the autocrapytrans. It’s all good with the auto trans till you have to replace it. You might as well by another International with that kind of money and get a 18 speed with it, and still be cheaper at the end. And to those digital gages the same way, all good till they don’t work right after warranty is gone and you got to pay thousands to replace instead of replacing just a gauge, like in my 379🤔. I don’t see the benefits here.

Everything‘s nice on this particular truck with the 80 inch sleeper the only exception that I would have is not having the hightop on the cab regular standard cab height would look a lot lot better and the extensions on the sleeper would look a lot fancier without the extensions lot more tractive. As far as being an automatic if you’re traveling on flat roads that you don’t have to worry about really high long upgrades automatics are acceptable. Hauling heavy heavy halls that are well over 100,000 standard is a must 18 speed absolutely and if you’re doing a lot of mountain climbing and steep terrain climbing upgrades standard is king.
