I was working in AU for a year. Everytime i call my mother, though she says she is fine, i can feel sadness in the voice. I decided to go back to MY eventhough all my colleague and my boss said i’m crazy giving up a better ‘life’. I said to them, nothing more satisfying that to take care of your parents and doing your best to fullfill their needs. Their happiness is now my happiness.

Depends on how wealthy parents are? whether they have enough wealth to build a life for children in India. Most middle class parents are not in that situation, they scrape the surface to educate the children at school

The worst part is India is becoming more westernized than foreign countries. I have lived in US and this is the definitely the case. The younger generations in india don't want to cook at home anymore, they want to shop in shopping malls, whereas in US over 2000 shopping malls are closing and everyone is doing online shopping, they want to eat western food like pizza, subway, tacos, burritos, Starbucks, etc.. All these things have come in india now also and youngsters are not going for traditional Indian food, youngsters don't want traditional Indian dress like sari or salwar kameez, they want western dress, they don't want to learn indian classical music or indian classical dance and all indian classical music and dance artists who have toiled and worked very hard to learn their art go every year on concert and recital tours to foreign countries... Etc... This is what is happening

Life is very difficult in the western countries. Once you enter these countries health issues, mental issues and financial problems start. That's why they not able to talk to you. You thought once in the west full money in crores. Life is not like that. Everything goes for bills and what little they save for the next 4-5 years they use that money to visit family in India. First generation will never have money here. Unless parents came here 50 years ago settled then those children might have some money, but again those children don't work and end up being foolish and careless in life.

Hope you don't feel bad, but I would suggest you come on visitors visa work at a restaurant or some job for the next 2 years and see for yourself how much you can save. Atleast for you it may better because you are converting dollars to rupees... but dollar to dollar bills are very expensive. If you have 10 bills to pay people in America have 20 bills to pay.

@@MayaPeru-qt5dp u r not understanding my plight. Everyone has probs to deal with. I don’t know exact income vs exps, but from net I get to know that for a bachelor, rent is 600, electricity, 75, food 175, petrol n emi 300 clothing 75, entertainment 100, health insurance 50. I know his salary as per his few yrs back appointment order. The mind set is that whatever he earns is his own wealth n nothing to do with parents. Other side, I do earned properties, I do get rent. But whether this money is sufficient to survive is a big question. I have been on rent n misc income. But now decided to sell that property n invest in fixed deposit where by I will get good monthly income. I was silent to ensure my son to enjoy that property. If things goes well with six months, I will have good money in hand n go to old age home to live happily. But u be careful with ur money to spend on others before considering ur age, health prob n other support as the age pass by.

Practical thinking : Money is not everything. But to run the life it is necessary. So to strike the balance, thinking about the children's future, present abroad earning, conducive green pollution free environment , hassle free daily life, abroad preference is not a crime. When you start living loving the environment, neighbours, relatives etc, let our future generation be comfort enough with where ever they prefer to settle down, do it. As a parent @ 68 , I am expressing my opinion. Love the nature, love the environment, you don't feel aloof anytime. 🎉

I understand your point up-to some extent. But every coin has 2 sides. For some below middle class families , going to abroad is the only option. Think of a family with no money even for their children weddings, one of the child goes abroad and sending money for the siblings weddings, building home for parents. After couple of years only their real savings starts for their kids. By the time due to various factors people cannot come back. Money is not everything but without money we can’t survive any where in the world.

Absolutely! Every coin has 2 faces . A child also becomes a parent some day. It's not give nd take policy. It's that concern and unconditional love for children nd children towards parents matters . Staying separately from parents doesn't mean u are neglecting them . Every one needs their personal space . Difference of opinions also counts . Bottom-line one being for others is what matters . It may be from parents or kids . Also I live in a family of 11ppl

I feel sad, took wrong decision not going to USA at my earliest stage of my life. Now I am struggling to get into USA with family and kid. Remember Now or Never. If you work for 30 - 35 years of savings , is equal to 5 years of foreign savings. In India you don’t have long private employment, in foreign you can go for employment after 60 years too. Here in India, heavy politics in private companies and competition. Where as in foreign work life balance. In simple terms I will tell you, myself working in India struggles to get leave, where same position team member in Foreign country enjoys long vacation. Your skills are more valued and paid in foreign/ western countries. Her in India your are slave … corporate Slave. Don’t trust any one, but do always good deeds. Thank you.

Yes. 100%true. It's not the matter whether in Home land or abroad the children have to take care of their parents . The worst situation is no one likes the parents to be with them even if they are here. They want to be alone. It doesn't mean that the children here are only taking care. The harsh reality is that in over 60% of cases, lot of parents compel their children to pursue studies and employment abroad. They often compare their children to others, citing examples of individuals who have gone abroad, questioning why their own children can't do the same. In their 50s and 60s, they fail to see the potential repercussions. However, by the time they reach their 70s, they become reliant on support and come to realize their mistake. On the flip side, the dilemma arises when children go abroad to study, seeking employment to repay their educational loans. They end up staying longer to earn money, start families, and settle down. Yet, they find themselves stuck abroad, unable to return due to circumstances beyond their control. Bringing back their children who are in the midst of schooling becomes a complex issue, as the educational systems are vastly different. Thus, the challenges extend far beyond what is initially discussed.

Very hard sad truth of the mass migration. On one side it’s leaving behind very lonely parents back at home. At the same time, on the other side it’s leaving behind very lonely grand children all around the world, mostly unmarried, lost in the mass world population , no one knows where these people are as they are deeply buried in multiculturalism. Children born to the people migrating don’t belong in overseas, at the same time they can’t go back to India as they don’t know anyone in their parents country of origin. Leaving their children (grand children) in most expensive countries in the world when they die. Not many people want to take about this serious issue.

I would like to take it a step further. First gen immigrations will be satisfied with the way of life anywhere abroad! Coz They would have spent their growing years in Bharath, thus having good knowledge about their existence, culture, roots etc. But problem will arise when their kids (second gen immigrants ) grow aboard ! They will grow in a culturally mixed environment which might give way for confusion as they grow. This might have problems in kids sticking to their roots. If parents(first gen immigrants) are mentally prepared for this, it’s fine. If parents are concerned more about propagating their race than earning money, then they need to give it a thought .

Next stage that their son is employed in US/UK.and earning 150k USD a year. They used to make a couple of visits to see their wards. All is fine when health is ok up to 60/65 years of age. After that when their health detereorate they require the assistance of their son, which is not possible, as he can't get any job here in India to suit his qualification and experience. Today's youth is tomorrow's parents. In addition to academics,, parents should inculcate the moral and duty of children to take care of their parents

He may be in a different state altogether, have responsibilities that tie him down. ... The answer is we, the parents have to arrange for their old in the best possible way.

Ram Ram. Your observations are very practical. But it is the Parents who have to be blamed 100% Only the parents prepare the child frim LKG to go and earn in Abroad. Knowing fully well they cannot come back for very many reasons. So the parents' emotional suffering is self-inflicted. Children cannot be blamed at all.

Assuming everyone went to overseas, floating in money and don’t want to come back is wrong. No doubt there are few. Unless someone take £200,000 when they move to overseas, majority of them, 95% of them work to pay their mortgage (house loans) and raise children without any/no savings. Biggest problem is, most parents in India (or any other countries) don’t have a clear plan on the future of their children in terms of where to live(house) what job to do, when they finish higher studies. Most don’t realise how much effort and money need to build a life for a child. Most of them take the children to schools, send to tuitions, pass A/L, apply for a visa and send them to overseas and wipe their hands. When children finish their studies in overseas, they don’t know where to go back to or where to live when they go back. Very sad situation

Children are vulnerable and should never ever be sent to a strange country to study. That time in their life it is crucial they are with family and their culture. Literally packed off to uphold your pride. So parents keep them in your country _ once they have gained experience in thrir own country they can go on a contract and return home. You have no ROOTS and life becomes unbearable when you realize you have made a mistake by packing up and leaving for good. You are literally a third class citizen caught in two worlds. Those who went to the Gulf countries or Asia returned back to India without abandoning family but those that foolishly pack up for good struggle in even getting a job after all the stresses at such a young age. Depression, family breakups, divorce, debt trap are not something one can overcome but managing with family in your own country is any day better.

Pleasantries are exchanged once a year during Thanksgiving . Grandparents in India will still be able to sustain themselves because there is some societyal bonding . Think what will happen when these sons and daughters become old and remain settled in a foreign land .🙏.

I completely understand your point. I feel it is better to sensitize parents of the financial implications if it involves a collateral & they're children turn care free & irresponsible. As for the other situations, why are the children expected to return always? Why are parents going hard & unwilling to move to the children's homes in the respective countries that they live in? When the kids are young, they live & move places with parents. When the same parents turn old, it only makes sense if they move along with the children.

Before sending the children to overseas, parents should think hard and arrange a place for the children to live when they come back. Most children go to overseas, do not have a place to live back at home. It’s very easy to buy a flat or house in loan in overseas. It’s not easy to buy a house in India/home. So children get stuck in wrong place

Already youngsters are under terrific strain due to ever changing job situations, aspirations and ambitions of spouses, geopolitical occurrences, and if we add parental pressures too, it will only lead to depression and mental breakdown! Even if they return home country there is no guarantee that they will keep parents peaceful. Even those children who are at home, there is no guarantee that they will give support and peace to parents right now. Atleast those who are abroad let them be happy. It's not necessary to go abroad. I know few children who go to a different state in India itself. They are so busy that slowly they maintsin distance from parents. Try to settle there. As parents they have done their duty. The children have no time to talk or even msg. When parents call they prefer to answer in what's app. Not even video calls. . When will such children understand? Living in India itself but staying in a different state brings such a situation what to do? When will such children change for the better .

In an ideal situation this works. But a person who has worked abroad cannot find suitable job in India and for some people their health does not permit them to face the commuting challenges. So when it comes to losing their entire power of earning although they do not like they are forced to continue working abroad just to provide the basic needs for their kids and family. Then although the person is sad that he or she is unable to comeback, they are unable to return to their motherland. This is the harsh truth for many.
