hey there SAD. Thanks to you both. Senri was born in 1997. She has been playing drums since she was 5 or so. Her youtube videos go back at least 10 years with one listing her age as 6. In the first video reaction you did , Onyx, she was 17. She was 20 in the 2nd reaction you did. The performance today she was 23. She is now 26.

How empty are the words of a critic who has not studied enough. Their words taste nothing. None of their words resonate.

Hope the title is true. She's a good drummer but that's it. Nothing wrong with that but she hasn't much charisma, she only seems to play a tiny musical style and, for me, it's become over saturated. The video left me cold. First, just yapping on and the n, what was just "Drum karaoke". She's been playing, from what Bart says, 21 years now. Doubt she has the capacity to expand her musical styles now unfortunately.

Don't think I have much disagreement with you Paul. I do however enjoy watching her perform particularly the music she does with the odd time signatures thrown in and out across an entire performance.

In my opinion Senri Kawaguchi is an absolutely phenomenal drummer with a lot of charisma, but like I said, it's just my opinion.

“A tiny musical style”????? What the **** does that mean??? And if it’s so tiny, how could it be “oversaturated”??? “Just drum karaoke”… if you hadn’t noticed, thousands of world class musicians like Senri have made videos and podcasts by playing along with recorded tracks. It’s a way to get your music to more viewers so that we don’t have to pay outrageous ticket prices, or to enjoy a performance during a global lockdown. (When the original video was made) “She hasn’t much charisma”… you don’t say what is charismatic TO YOU, but a little research will show you that there are several million people all over the world who strongly disagree with you on that. “Just yapping on”… are you saying that no musician should give a spoken introduction before playing? Maybe you prefer the arrogant blather of some rock musicians to Senri’s humble and friendly speaking style, but I have to wonder if the fact that she’s from a different culture than you is the real reason you’re so dismissive. “Doubt she has the capacity to expand her musical styles”… you can “doubt” anything you want, but that statement is demonstrably false in so many ways it’s ridiculous. To give just one example - Blue Note Tokyo Jazz All-Stars. “The video left me cold” … that’s your personal taste - no problem there. Just don’t click on any videos with Senri or listen to her music, no one is forcing you to. The problem comes up when you promote your personal taste and opinion as if it were truth, i.e. “She’s a good drummer but that’s it”. There are literally hundreds of thousands of music lovers who understand that Senri isn’t just “a good drummer” - she is a great, world-class MUSICIAN. Included in this group are the many great musicians who have performed and/or appeared with Senri Kawaguchi: Steve Gadd. Dave Weckl. Harvey Mason. Jacob Collier. Marcus Miller. Alphonso Johnson. Peter Erskine. Bob James. Lee Ritenhour. (The late) Chick Corea. Clarence Penn. Larnell Lewis. Guthrie Govan and Marco Minneman. Akiro Jimbo. James Genus. Mohini Dey. Senri’s friend Kanade Sato. Kiyomi Otaka. Armand Sabal-Lecco. Makoto Ozone. Simon Phillips. Brian Bromberg. Rie a.k.a. Suzuku. Phillipe Saisse. Eric Miyashiro. Tetsuo Sakurai. (The late) Kozo Suganuma. Sarah Thawer. Koichi Yabori. Pino Palladino. Luis Conte. Alfredo Rodriguez. The seven other members of Senri’s band “Jazz Avengers”, all of whom were well known and respected before joining Senri’s band. This is just a PARTIAL list of course… Not exactly “a tiny musical style”!!

@@peterb7923 If you can't see that playing such a small type of music over and over again is oversaturated, then I can see why you like her 😂😂

@@paulfenwick8767 I’m sure that you’ll be happy to know that your implication that I’m ignorant (“If you can’t see…”) has caused me untold hurt and anguish. But of course I’ll admit that it’s my own fault for feeding a troll in the first place. Now if you could just find a way to tell all the world-class musicians and music lovers that I mentioned that they are dumb also… well then, I guess you will feel REALLY good about yourself!! Bye.
