@@albonthegoat it is kind of similar to a person in severe emotional pain actually having better memory when drunk. Normally alcohol harms memory, but if someone is so stressed out that the effects of the stress are debilitating, then relieving that stress with moderate amounts of booze can help... I knew an incest survivor who needed to drink and get high before doing graduate-school mathematics! When sober she was so distracted by remembering her childhood trauma that the drugs and alcohol actually allowed her to think more clearly...

Once I went to a sparring session on a Sunday morning - still drunk af - slept maybe 4 hours after a heavy night but promised I'll come so it was my secondary priority lol The session was good tbh - I felt like shit, had still super-blurred mid, but I was relaxed (more like numb) and did not give a shit too much about getting hit. Not that I got beaten stupidly, but the session was more playful and fancy than usual. This does not compare to being at the peak of drunkenness and streetfighting, but I still think of it as a kind of 'experience' - P.S. I quit the session after we went for clinching rounds and got kneed in the belly a few times - it was a threat for everyone around.

I know videogames has nothing to do with fighting but I noticed when I play competitive videogames whilst slightly drunk (there's a point of drunkenness where my vision is too blurry and I can't focus well enough) I'll definitely perform better like it gives me a version of mental clarity I will be relaxed enough in a moment that would usually make me panicked or stressed to make calculated decisions and react appropriately if that makes any sense

In Kung-Fu we have something that often called drunken boxing/drunken Monkey. A style in which you are not really drunk rather you pretend to be, but as an added content they teach you how to handle drinking to a certain point that afterwards you are really drunk. I tried to fight drunk once but it didn't go well, luckily I did this near people who cared about me but I fell and came out with a broken nose.

love Seth's videos. In Geoff Thompson's book Watch my Back he recalls his experiences as a bouncer. It's not that people are better fighters, but that they are willing to do things they would never do sober, ex: throw a bottle at a face, pummel a downed guy, etc
@tycarne7850

There's also that drunk people can definitely ignore pain and shrug off damage that would stop a sober person instantly. Also, having worked as a bouncer in the same city as Geoff Thompson, after him but with people who knew him, have to say, a lot of his book needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.

There's this thing known as state dependent memory. State-dependent memory or state-dependent learning is the phenomenon where people remember more information if their physical or mental state is the same at time of encoding and time of recall. So you could actually be better at fighting, math problems, or really anything while drunk if you learned it while drunk previously.

The added muscular relaxation and loss of fine motorskills gives drunks a natural gross- motor whippiness which is great for striking! P.s. I am not advocating that untrained people try to swing a blade while intoxicated... I am very experienced, and use intoxication as a solo drill form of pressure testing my skills. If I can pull off an improvised sequence of knife movements safely and accurately when drunk, then I figure I can do the same when frightened or injured.

Thats because of blood pressure. Arabs have a lot of ACE D gene, so they naturally have high blood pressure(sine they can`t drink, it is REALLY bad for their health, as they have high blood pressure even without alcohol). But for lets say Asian, to get high blood pressure, he would need to drink alcohol. High blood pressure makes you more violent/aggressive, and simultaneously stronger.

Obviously the blurred vision, lack of balance, and impaired motor skills are going to make you a worse fighter from a technical perspective. However, alcohol also dulls pain, reduces inhibition, and increases aggression. If you're someone like me who naturally tends to avoid fights and tries not to escalate a confrontation (even when you know the other guy has already decided that he wants to fight) and have tendency to get blasted in the face as you're trying to reason with a violent s--thead. I also have a tendency to freeze in the first few seconds of a physical fight (which are often when the winner is decided). However, when I am drunk, I didn't hesitate when I knew a fight was coming. After the first few "Hey, look I don't have a problem. Let's just kick back and have a good time" failed and it was clear this wasn't just some guy blowing off hot air; I got right into the mix. And I am just talking about my experiences in my late teens and twenties. I am almost 40 and haven't got into a fight (drunk or sober) for almost a decade and only got into two fights as an adult. I am neither some bad ass tough guy ("I don't start nothin' but I sure finish it") nor some idiot who goes around antagonizing people and I wasn't like that when I was younger. I just have some firsthand experience in violence when really drunk and just sharing my firsthand experiences.

There is something about a small amount of alcohol being enough to mentally make it easier to take risks and feel more comfortable and relaxed while still being sober enough to be in control. Some studies have shown good drivers become better after a small amount of alcohol (but become worse after a certain amount more). Obviously the effects and limits differ from person to person and I wouldn't suggest drinking to be a better driver or fighter, but there is some theory there to support small amounts of alcohol could be helpful.

pros and cons, pain reduction, and disinhibition lending itself towards hightened aggression response(if you dont freeze or flee). but none of that compares to the deficit in response time and coordination, and especailly balance(the leading serious injury in unarmed hand to hand street fights is from accidental falls during the fight and hitting the head). choke holds are pretty common tactic too and alcohol lowers o2 so doesnt take as long to finish the job, and increased risk of cardio failure overal from alcohol inflamation is just bad news bears cocktail for preventable accidental death. BUT knowing the pros and cons, if you happen to get in a fight you cant get out of, since you lack coordination and response time, dont be fancy, shed all the best practice reaction counter attack and defense that you otherwise would do and keep it simple, bullrush, bear hug, full mount. sticky open hand strikes reduce uncoordinated wrist injury, and provides an anchor point for balance, id avoid hooks because of the circumferential forces complicating balance, and avoid kicks(or keep them low to mantain balance), broaden the stance a bit for stability(sorry yall karate purists). this all kind of starts sounding like krav maga, catch wrestling, and wing chun, are these the drunk martial arts, and the real secret to their power, the context they were meant for? lol

Drinking... retract that; doing ANYTHING that can be considered intoxicating and fighting is so dumb that i cannot even stress it enough. People who do that should be stopped from even eating sugar. I've done it- i am not proud of it. I should be punished harder for it. It is not an excuse, that i was in a bad spot in my life. I am ashamed of that and i hope that i grew since It is so moronic to start a fight when you are on ANYTHING- even things that improve coordination or make you faster, like cocaine. Even outside of "i don't feel pain, so i cannot assess how much damage i've taken", "my heart is about to explode out of my throat and i cannot feel it" and "i thought i barely touched him, but here he is on the ground, with his head caved in from the hit it took from the pavement on his way down". Even outside of having to deal with escalation, while you are not in full control of your body- you managed to take him out and here comes the goon squad to avenge their alpha... Even outside of all that- remember- it spoils fun for the rest of us. Don't be selfish, and remember you will want to have same freedom in the future- so don't do things, that will be an argument toward taking it away. In my country drinking one beer in public is enough to get you a ticket. Why? Because some idiots will get hammered and then go into town swinging, or urinate, or puke on something Irregardless of one's stance toward alcohol and/or drugs(alcohol is a drug) i will not let somebody suffer through any stupid crap, whether they are cool with it or not- keep your fun to yourself and your friends- i don't care what you do. Even things that are "ego reaffirming" can be done in such way, that you do not have to get out there and prove to anybody how tough you are... From any point of view- including fellow user- decision to fight under influence is one of the worst you can possibly make, and so drill it into yourself so hard, that even when you lose your temper while drunk or high- you back away

I’ve actually done a drunk mma sparring session before again someone sober (don’t do this btw it’s stupid the only reason I did this is because I fully trusted my partner to not kill me, and we made head shots off the table for more “safety”). I noticed that it made me go for moves that I wouldn’t normally go for and in striking it didn’t work out that well. The thing that surprised me the most is that my grappling didn’t feel awful could be that I manly train grappling and my other friends dose not but it surprised me how much muscle memory took over. This isn’t to say that I was better drunk because I was not but it’s interesting to think that my body defaulted to grappling. I think that’s why when you see a lot of drunk fights they usually go to the ground we naturally default to grappling because striking isn’t natural for our bodies grappling is, at least for an untrained person

Drunks get serious physical AND mental tunnel vision . The first makes you open to hooks and upper cuts, they won't even register . The second version makes them fixate on just one phrase or idea making them easy to manipulate . I play a lot of bar as a musician and see this all the time. If it's going to be a fight the drunk will square up , drop the arms and raise the chin then teeter back and forth . Pretty much the dumbest thing you can do. If it's just starting you have to figure out what part of version 2 they are fixating on and either move them off it or just bail. Dudes ALWAYS want to play my guitar or hold it. It's a $3000 guitar plus we need to get our gear offstage so I learned to get out of this in a way that doesn't offend said dude and make him want to fight

1 time I actually practiced "Drunken Boxing" ( and no it's not the Kung Fu one ) it was on a halloween night I had a few slightly larger than average glasses of wine 🍷 and I started feeling a bit tipsy and I thought it would be fun to practice some jabs crosses and hooks. So yeah actual "Drunken Boxing" 🥴🥊. And then I threw up in the toilet afterwards 😅.

I mean in reality we all know that our BOI should have had a few Bev's and ditched the silly goggles because it's not just your eyes that go....

I used to practice a physical art form on different drugs. It seemed alcohol had a small margin of intake where there was a performance increase compared to others drugs that overall it was very unreliable, inconsistent and short lived. All factors considered it would be lucky to titrate alcohol at a level where it was potentially helpful.

Seth, me and my opposite of a big brain has computed a new fighting strategy, if you just keep swinging they will be too distracted trying to block your hits. They could also be too distracted by the pain so they fight worse. Please test my theory

I think the idea of fighting better when drinking has more to do with lowered inhibitions, and reducing anxiety in the situation. It also acts as a muscle relaxant and pain in numbed. Obviously intoxication to fall over drunk, can't walk straight will severely impair you. But there might be a threshold before that giving you an optimal relaxation for muscle contractility, reduced nerves from lower inhibitions and numbed pain.

I think grapplers might do better with drunk glasses because you can still grapple blind.

The key is with the goggles is cover distance and just swing same way you would in a bar fight imo distance is non existent nether is timing all you can do is cover distance and swing and hope some get through just windmill I think fighting proper is goina get you hit more with the glasses I’ve more research to do on fighting with alcohol I’m Irish it might take a while

Why does no one want to consume alcool to test this out. Its not the first video on youtube that tries to emulate being drunk instead of just sparring after a few drinks. Seems like the most legit way to test it
