Had an 07 Yaris reliable but not boring. Half of the families in my small N.Wales village ownToyotas as we have a dealer here who gets returning customers who like the service & reliability, lots of these are Mk.2 Yaris's.

Yes, I can't say that I am surprised about that! These are tough and practical little cars, just perhaps not the most exciting ones, but they do remain very popular indeed. I enjoyed driving this one.

Thanks for reviewing our Yaris. Admittedly, not the most dynamic drive in the class but extremely easy to drive and bullet proof. In the eight years we’ve owned it I’ve just replaced tyres (on age) and recently a battery (the first lasted nearly 11 years). Despite the mileage, it’s used every day and we’d be loathe to part with it.

Thank you again, Simon! I very much enjoyed it, and it is one of the very few cars that I have driven that I wouldn't mind living with every day (there are not many). I hope that you enjoyed the Rover as well.

Between 2005 and 2010 this Supermini Class of car had reached a Standard of sophistication that was well engineered and built, reliable, comfortable and powerful. The Yaris was simply the Best of the Best.
@lloydvehicleconsulting2 жыл бұрын
Yes sir, it was definitely one of the best at the time, although a Fiesta does drive a bit better than this. I actually test drove a Mark VI Fiesta against a Mark I Yaris with a client in 2018, and she chose the Fiesta in the end, although it was very close.

That's a lovely example. They look great in red. A work colleague has a silver 06 reg Yaris. I don't know what spec but it has steel wheels and the 1.33 litre engine.

It is a ridiculously nice example, sir, less than 17,000 miles! The 2006 Yaris will be a T2 or T3, I would think. It will be the 1.3 85 bhp engine rather than the 1.33, as that did not come out until the 2009 facelift.
@scottishcarenthusiastsandtrain2 жыл бұрын
Great review Sir, I had the later mark 3 SR 1.33 so I know that the engine is a little cracker, I think by the time it got to the Mark 3 it had lost some of its uniqueness ie the instrument panel in the middle and it's storage space like the 3 gloveboxes.

Yes, they sort of split the range when they were launched as the more spacious Verso-S came out at the same time as the Mark III Yaris. They are quite different in character compared with the Mark II, you are absolutely right! Thank you again for watching, sir.

@@zzhughesd , yes, insane secondhand prices at the moment. If you look in the description, you will see a link to the Yaris Mark I T Sport I filmed in 2020. I had heard a lot of hype about it, and I just found it a bit underwhelming, I am afraid. It didn't help that the driving position was very uncomfortable for me. This was much more comfortable, and better thought out, really than a Mark I, although a Fiesta Mark VI has a better gearchange and handles better. I didn't find the clutch bad at all, either on this car or on the one I drove in 2018, to be honest, and having done 250 reviews on this channel, I do have a fair idea of what a lot of cars are like, but you have probably driven more of these Yaris models. The 1.8 SR is completely forgotten, whereas the Fiesta ST was not, even if they were on sale at the same time, which is very strange. It's actually very rare that I drive a car on this channel, and then immediately think that I could live with one and consider buying one, but after this, I did wonder if I should. That probably doesn't make much sense, but I have quite unusual tastes in cars!

@@zzhughesd , if you want to sell old weird Korean cars, then have a look at the Seoul Classics Facebook Group. They love that sort of stuff in there. I have driven a huge variety of different stuff over the last three and a half years, from sub £500 Renaults and Rovers to brand new £30,000 electric cars, but cars like this Yaris are typically the sort of thing which I source for clients, and often they are surprisingly popular for some reason. I am filming three different cars for three different series on the channel tomorrow all over the place in terms of budget, make and age, you will have to let me once they all come out which one you prefer...

The Zetec-SE in the Mark VI and Mark VII Fiesta is a very good engine, and they are generally very reliable if they are looked after properly. However, these Toyota engines have proven to be even more reliable!

It's a great car, but the strange placement of the dash forces me to look elsewhere, for instance at the Auris, or Honda Jazz. I know it's probably something you might get used to, but it doesn't seem like an intelligent (or safe at high speeds) decision to have the information to your left as opposed to right in front of you.
@lloydvehicleconsulting2 жыл бұрын
Certainly the standard specification pre-facelift models had a different dashboard with digital readouts, which were even less conventional than the one in this car. The contemporary Hyundai Matrix and some other cars have also had a similar layout to this. It was pretty easy to get used to it, actually. It was abandoned, however, with the third generation Yaris.

16,000 miles is low mileage for any car and its extremely low milage for a Toyota. That car is capable to last for many more miles.
