Do you really need that Sensored Brushless Motor Option? This video shows the very distinct differences between both types of operation. Above the very slow speed you see in the video, both systems will operate in sensorless mode (common with other ESC's too) as synchronization is very well established.

What a perfectly timed video for me! I recently upgraded from brushed to sensorless brushless and didn't realize what I'd be giving up in startup and low speed control. It's awesome to see my exact issues in a direct comparison in slow motion.

A captured output on a O-scope would show a linear rise on current and voltage for the sensored motor. Not choppy. Thanks for the demo.

Awesome and profi content as always. That slomo video show perfectly what is advantage. Which sometimes is hard to recognize for beginers. Also in racing is sensored system preffered and standard for perfect "connection" between human who control and the truck. Good fast and acurate radio is needed. Keep doing good videos in 2023. I wish you all good :-)

Awesome video. I picked up a used Traxxas Slash with a Castle Creations Sensored motor but the esc died. I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth buying a sensored ESC like the Copperhead or just getting a sensorless esc like the Sidewinder 4.

This is the best comparison I have seen i am looking for my 1st brushless system and i do not want the hobbywing would a 10 pole sensorless be any better on start up

In scale comp crawling some are actually using sensorless outrunner motors for lighter weight and they perform as well as sensored inrunners. Holmes Hobbies revolvers with castle esc s or Holmes' own esc. Outrunners are typically 10 - 14 pole for crawling applications.

Interesting. Using motors with more commutation steps per mechanical revolution can greatly help slow speed control.

Happy New Year and a great video! My wish for this year is to have a sensored system that is cost competitive with a sensorless sytem. The cost of most sensored systems is prohibitive. IMO.

It highly depents on the motor and ESC combo you are using I think. I have a Holmes hobbies Revolver 380 2000kv sensorless motor with a RhinoESC 40A sensorless ESC and I have never any sync problems. If you program the ESC in a perfect way to the motor specs It run as smooth as a sensored system. Except the sound. On a sensorless motor it pops your ears😂

Happy New Year Ryan, and to all RC fans here! I have a question: Many Sensored Motor/ESC Combo's are offered with motors which have high kv values. I saw one offered in a 5200kv version! Maybe I'm wrong, but I would have thought that lower kv = better low speed control. I fully understand that a sensored setup is perfect for crawlers, what I don't understand is why they often have such high kv. Why is that? As a side-note, I'm currently building a RC tugboat which has dual 192kv outrunner motors (sensorless, 6s), and these motors can turn at ridiculously low rpm, giving me all the control I need. Sure, a sensored setup might be better, or would that be OTT for a tugboat?

Because sencered generally for racing and not using more than 3s therefore wanting as fast as possible. Crawlers geared so low and can increase voltage effectively

Happy new year. High kv motors generally have weak inductance that makes it difficult for the ESC to control as extreme slow speeds. For motors designed in this way with weak inductance, a sensored setup will greatly help. Your low kv outrunners will have excellent slow speed control. For RC cars, slow speed control can have very high loads. Imagine a rock crawler stuck on a rock trying to cross it. For your boat, the load on a propeller at slow speed will be very low.

kind of off topic but, my rc car has a warning saying that it can only run batteries less than or equal to 25c, why is that warning there, can i run a higher C rating battery even though the car warns me against it?

@@sohamnirantare1827 when you say you don't think you are, this is concerning. Measure the temperatures after a run and find out if you are within maximum thresholds.

Thank you, I did a run a measured and the motor wasn't hot 😁, I just had another question, recently one of my front shocks started leaking, so what shock oil weight would you recommend for a 1:10 scale rc truggy, and can I just fill the shock back up and I'm good to go? Or will i have to diagnose the problem and find out the reason of the leak. Thank you for all your help!

Unfortainetly Castle isnt the best RC motors and ESCs to show the difference as Castle is quite good at preventing cogging even in an unsensored setup.
