Thank you so much for this video!!!! I’m just about to start the switch to feeding our pup raw and I was stressing on how to figure out how much bone vs meat in any given piece of bone in meat lol! Now I know to just look up any pieces I plan to ever feed, and just keep a cheat sheet to look up as I’m meal prepping!! I hadn’t found another video yet that explains this so well, I had no idea how to go about figuring out my bone percentages lol 🤦🏻‍♀️

What exactly is sweet bread? I’m trying to figure out how to source an additional secreting organ. I found chicken hearts at a local store, but I’ve been told they’re muscle organs.

I found you through Kimberly and just subscribed. We've been raw feeding for a little over a year -- the changes have been positive and dramatic. When I'm meal prepping I put a large piece of plastic wrap over my scale so I can tare the scale and not get yucky stuff all over the scales. I'm a little bit of a germaphobe.

This method looks simple in theory but might not work for all dogs. When I started feeding my Sammy raw I discovered a few things. He refused any meat on bone... he also refused anything w skin on meats. Then there was the issue w getting organs locally. So I had a lot of challenges. As a result, I decided to purchase premixed raw meals from “Raw Paws” where the meats, liver, other organs & bone balanced out so I don’t have to worry abt measuring portion each meals. The only downside is that it’s costing me a bundle since I can’t purchase bulk to include free ship since I don’t have the freezer space. I can only order two wks of food... honestly it is costing me more to feed raw but I’m doing it cuz my Sammy’s health has improved.

Hello I have gone raw and I found that one of my dogs was a dining eater. I started grinding the meat myself.. grinding yourself you can grind in everything you need except the meat with the bone and the extras: egg, coconut oil, sardines, ect.. My dog eats like a champ now.. I now grind but have started cutting up some of her meat into cubes.. they are in seventh heaven.. they are more playful, their breadth is not horrible, we are seeing a change in their body..and they seem happier.. glad I made the change. I couldn’t buy premise..it’s too expensive.. good luck

I AM HERE because my shipment of WWW.rawdeliveryMN.com came, and it says "to be supplemented", yet I find no instructions on youtube. I am so pleased that my indoor cats love the patties....and it's a surprise because these cats turn their nose at chicken and and any cooked homemade dog food I made, except the day I added calf livers from Walmart. These cats definitely do not eat like my childhood barnyard cats! They at squash, oatmeal, beyond pet food....you name it.

Loved the video! I started raw feeding almost 10 years ago. Since that time I've radically changed my methods for buying, storing, keeping an inventory and assembling meals for my dogs of various sizes. One thing I learned early on was to switch to metric weights. It's incredibly easier to make calculations and determine appropriate weights (especially if you're using spreadsheets - as I do). Thanks for posting.

Is the percentage of the bone excluding the meaty part or including?
@RawFeeding101
@RawFeeding101 4 жыл бұрын
The bone percentage is how much bone is in the total amount. Pork ribs for dinner example are about 33% so 1/3. So if a pork rib weighs 9 ounces, then 3 ounces of it are bone and 6 ounces of it are meat.

The thing I worry about is the different proteins in the meats, if I give my puppy more pork than beef one day and vice versa the next day isn’t there a difference in protein amounts? Same with the meaty bone sources, 9 oz of turkey wing and 9oz of pork ribs have different amounts of protein. That is my biggest fear, not giving enough of something.
@RawFeeding101
@RawFeeding101 4 жыл бұрын
Yes that is a concern. Some people take care of this by providing a rotating variety of proteins and raw meaty bone sources. Some people have balanced meals created to ensure these needs a precisely met every day. You need to be much more accurate and precise with puppies.

Ok, I've been wondering. I have been RF for a few months. I am a serious approximater. I do use a scale, but my percentages are ?? First my boy eats a ton of food. I split his meals up. I use premade raw answers in the morning I've been scared to completey cut the chord. I shoot for 40-45oz total. I'll typically feed 13-16oz in the morning 25-30oz in the evening of home made. Sometimes I use chicken quarters or pork ribs sometimes and mostly turkey necks. I feed half his meal in weight in rmb and match that weight in meat. I then add 1-1.5oz of liver and 1-1.5 oz of other organ. I'll give him a frozen sardine and sometime a raw egg. I keep a bag of each item relatively amounted in the fridge with about 3 days worth of each. The percentages confuse me. I add pureed veggies too. I don't count the sardine, egg or veggies in the weight, I look at those as supplements. Am I atleast in the ball park of percentages? He has actually lost a bit of weight on this diet. He is 66lbs now down from 72 since raw feeding, and the vet says he looks great so? 4% body weight seems to work?? The percentages of everything just really has me wrapped up so I'm doing the best I can. I'm just wondering if I'm close. Poop is good if my bone percent is up. The turkey necks work really well. They will get loosy goosy with the ribs and quarters. Maybe that is more allergy? IDK any thoughts much appreciated. Thank you!
@RawFeeding101
@RawFeeding101 7 жыл бұрын
Hey m glutch! Thanks for the comment. I think that you are doing great. ;) The most important things are that you are actually weighing your dog's food to ensure you are getting approximately the amounts you need to feed and that you are keeping your vet in the loop. If the weight loss continues past his breed's ideal weight consider upping his food a bit but I doubt that will need to happen. :) Do some self education on your dog's breed or mix and find out what ideal weights are, keep weighing him, and you should be good to go. :) If you haven't already do me a favor and give this video a thumbs up and a share!

Thanks for getting back with me loved the course... I just worry my math is wrong. I'm trying to balance calcium and phosphorus and there is so much info out there on RMB's and how much and I even took DNM course, but the math leaves my head spinning. So I did read somewhere about just matching rmb weight to extra meat and over time or even with a turkey neck at the most I'm feeding 25% bone? I just wanted clarification on that and also not wanting to OD him on liver with vitamin A and wanting to make sure I'm not shorting him either on A or the other goodies in liver. The math is just a bit confusing for me. I hit the thumbs up button. Love all the videos esp your chats. keep it up.. please lol

Great video. The first time I bought bulk meat it, the prep was so overwhelming and very messy! It comes frozen so I have to thaw, make my individual meals and refreeze. The first time I did it, it was like a fricken massacre! I had blood and meat everywhere! I almost gave up because it was just sooooo gross. The bulk supplier I use (the only option I could find in my area) doesn't list the bone to meat ratios... It's so frustrating. I'm not sure how to handle it except maybe just feed meat (veg and organs) , but do something else in lieu of bone (eggshell?). Any ideas would be welcome.

I get ground turkey ... Not the same as a 'grind' . This is what we would make turkey burgers out of. 2. "Ground Lamb and Bone"... No idea of the ratios ....called, they didn't have an answer, but when I feed this my dogs' poops do not turn all white and powdered. 3. Ground whole salmon (this is like a traditional 'grind' 4. 'Turkey Frames'. Again they don't know the ratios of bone to meat. I cannot feed much of this..very hard, powdery poops.

What I would do is use the combination of foods that brought my dog's stools to a firm but not dry level and then control everything else as much as I could. At least 5% liver, 5% other secreting organ, 1-1.5oz of oily fish oer 30-35lbs. of body weight, and reproductive foods like high high quality sourced eggs and RAW milk.

I also get free meats from local sources like cattle and other livestock raisers when something bad happens. For example the other day my neighbors goat gave birth to triplets but one didn't make it. The more people you tell that you feed raw, the more meat that will come your way. We got 100lbs of beef from a friend who's family had butchered a cow on Christmas eve.
