I have used oil that's been improperly stored in buckets outside. The buckets of oil get rain water in them. I wanted to separate the water out of the oil so I could finally get the oil to a recycler. And now I have a more responsible way of storing used oil.

Appreciate the video. Safety warning: DO NOT drink water from separted oil. Just because the oil seperates from water does NOT mean that the additive chemicals will not at least contaminate the water to a small degree. Many "packets" of chemicals are added to oils such as detergents, emulisifiers, antioxidizers, etc. Be safe.

The other video I just watch had some sort of fan and a siphon and multiple levels of purification. This is what I actually needed. Thank you.

the "fan" was a propeller. to agitate the water I think. Easy to separate water from oil, they don't mix, not as easy when emulsified.

Thank you! I bought a custom waste oil DIY heater from a gentlemen in New Zealand and the source I get plan on getting oil from (your average lube shop or restaurant) definitely comes with water or washer fluid mixed in. I wanted a way to remove anything that isn't a lubricant or oil to make it easier on the burner to do it's job. Thank you for this video!

water and oil do not combine without a lot of help. Look at your salad dressing, shake before you pour. Oil and vinegar is just like oil and water.

2-3 weeks depending on the emulsion level. Oil and water will not mix if you just pour water in mineral oil.

This is horrible to hear. My problem is very similiar to one that is shown at the video, but I am really sorry for your situation. I think, that there is no actual solution I can think of. Maybe I would advise to collect it to some sort of container, make a little hole at the bottom, as shown on the video a drink in such way. Oil spills should float at the top. I understand, that this might not be easy regarding your fauna, but if you can obtain several closable containers, you should be fine. Keep the level of water always relatively high, to prevent containers to get dirty (on the other hand don´t let bacteria live inside, so maybe clean it time to time?) and if you decide to collect oil at the top time to time, never release it back to nature. Rather collect that into plastic bottles and store it. Hopefully someone will take care in future. I mean, this is the best solution I could have think of. It is still better than to drink dirty water. Oh man, I mean, wish you a good luck. Just write me, if you find a solution. I might be a journalist by that time and this would be a heck of a story. :)

If it is oil you should use a standing tank with a tap at the bottom. You can either have an overflow for the oil that accumulates or scoop it out. Getting the oil out no too bad but it will still not be something you would want to drink if you can avoid it. It is a disgrace that you don't have clean water. Sadly, not many really do these days.

I read that one quart of oil can contaminate 250,000 gallons of drinking water. I'd get 2 or 3 clean 55 gallon barrels and put 1/3 gravel in bottom, 1/3 sand in middle, 1/3 charcoal or anthracite on top, it don't know if it will be enough to filter out all the oil. Pour the oily water in the top and put a drain for the clean water in the bottom. Remove the clean water from the bottom and pour in the top of the 2nd barrel, etc. You may need two or three barrels to filter it.

Why are you wasting fuel? Add it to your diesel. I know a gallon of diesel is less than three dollars. But why give your money away?
@jfugal5237
@jfugal5237 5 жыл бұрын
I like the sound of that...but I don’t know how. I don’t drive diesel, so I’m not familiar with the idea that you can add used oil to it. Tell me more. How much used oil can you add to a 25 gallon tank of diesel? Do you pour it directly into the tank? Does it need to be properly mixed? I like learning new things.
@Nostradamus_Order33
@Nostradamus_Order33 5 жыл бұрын
J Fugal 20 percent waste oil is the maximum amount you can add to mineral diesel for pre 2003 diesels. So, for a 25 gallon total, you add 5 gallons waste oil to 20 gallons of diesel. You need to separate any water from the oil. Technically you can wash the oil of additives and contaminates like antifreeze with water. It is an extra step. Filter and use a magnet to remove small particles. (Premix 50/50 before filtering)

@lylestavast7652 4 жыл бұрын
@@jfugal5237 don't do this at all with the newer diesels with DPF/SCR etc. Older ones you can get away with about a half gallon (well filtered and dewatered/demulsified) per 20 gallons of diesel.

@@jfugal5237 there are older diesel engines that can run on 100% oil. Mine! :-) I have 97 turbo diesel Jeep and it runs on 30% diesel and 70% wasted motor oil without any problems. The last two years I drove it on vegetable oil, over the summer when it was warm I drove on 100% veg oil. Here is the video how I use WMO for fuel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6bceoZum7qmjKM
