I have this mental image of an EPA employee watching this and just having an absolute meltdown.....

I did the same propane tank setup except I heat the oil before passing through the filters, not sure what gave me the idea but it seems to work really well.

What does heating the oil do?
@angusgraham30287 ай бұрын
Evaporates water and also thins it out so it can flow through filters better

A roller pump for fertilizer from a farmers coop might work pretty good too, they will buck around 80psi

I made my pump from a new GM old style V8. Used epoxy on the input shaft to hold a seal around the shaft. I used a 12 volt dc motor to line drive it directly. It hooked up to the truck battery , so I could pump out of anyone's barrels.

where did you find the DC motor ? How much HP?

@@joekeller5417 It came from one of those 12 volt scooters that the kids ride on. I'd say a small engine starter motor would work as well. They do get hot from continuous running tho. Not sure they turn in the direction you need. But those electric scooters have a bicycle chain on them. Just pull the sprocket off , and use a good piece of rubber hose with clamps on both the pump , and motor shaft. They're the same diameter. Those little scooter motors might have been 24 volt , I can't remember , but pumped great with 12 volt. You can't shut the output side down , or the gear driven pump will either burst the output hose or ring the hose into between the pump n motor. Just have a switch on it or simply unhook from the power supply. Kids get tired of things and you should be able to find one. If you get creative you could use the whole controller to regulate the pump speed. I simply hooked a couple clamps and would unhook one to stop the flow. It's been a long time since using this thing , but it would empty a 55 gallon barrel much faster than a siphon hose. The starter motor might be too fast , but sure worth a try if you can't find the motor I used. Even an electric drill would work as well. It would have a chuck to attach to the pump. At the time I seen the scooter sitting in the barn an had an idea. A cordless drill will work on 12.volt if directly wired , or the older ones would. I've made adapters for my older 18volt drills to hook to the truck battery when the batteries went bad. An old cordless drill can be found in any pawnshop. Don't know about the new brushless tools , if they will work off of 12 volt. Don't know if a sewing machine motor would have enough torque , but the little scooter motor wasn't under any load while pumping. Mine was just made from a new extra volume oil pump I had on the shelf , and some rusty crap laying outside the shop on a rainy evening , oh and the butchered scooter. It looks like it was made from a bunch of rusted crap and welding rods laying around on one rainy evening. You sure would not want the kids playing with , but it just works , n works well. Hope this gives you some ideas

I would distill that oil into diesel and sell it to make more money... already doing that where I live

I use a washable mesh filter that fits in a standard whole house housing not sure what micron they go down too

That might be a good idea for my pre-filter. Ill look into them

Nice setup. Do you mix the dirty oil with gas or diesel, to make it thinner?
@spankranchgarage8 ай бұрын
I dont mix it intentionally but it really helps to. A few winters back I got 100 gallons of contaminated diesel and once I pumped that into my tank, the cold starts were way easier.

Hellow from Brazil, very cool, do you think is fine for chainsaws? I want to built one for this appliacation, no one buy new oil for chainsaw bars here
@spankranchgarageАй бұрын
Yes I think that’s a great idea. It will make nice bar oil and it’s free

You should keep the tank inside in the corner so it won't be so cold
