You know watching this makes me think that hojo shouldve been the antagonist, sephiroth never deserved to go through what he went through I wish he found out about Lucrecia and realized that Jenova wasn't his mother I feel bad for him

The thing about Sephiroth is that he's really quite tragic and sympathetic . . . but at the same time, he's a vicious and cruel antagonist. I think Square really got the balance and complexity of his character right, which is why he's the best game villain in my opinion.

@Fallon Taylor Have you forgotten that it was Gast,Hollander and Prof. Hojo`s tampering with the JENOVA Cells that weaponized them?Also,Sephiroth and the Remnants were crazy because of their own minds,the JENOVA Cells just gave them silver hair,superhuman abilities and catlike green-flecked eyes.We know this because Genesis,Cloud,Zack,Angeal and others who have been exposed to JENOVA Cells did not become evil.The Geostigma-infected kids also didn`t become evil,just malleable to the Remnants` and Sephiroth`s wills.They were using JENOVA`s legacy to justify their own agendas.This is confirmed in FFVII Ultimania.

In the original game, Hojo explain to Cloud and the party how his experimental plans were to place JENOVA cells inside the body of the woman he impregnated (aka Lucrecia). It is also mentioned sometime in DoC, I am quite sure... Everyone wonders whether Vincent actually did it though. It is a fan rumor that Vincent is the father and Hojo thinks he is, and that's what Vincent's mad at himself for. *Shrugs*

Sephiroth's father is Hojo, because Lucrecia bwas guilty about her involvement in Vincent'c father's death. So she wished for comfort from Hojo and became romanticly involved with him and ended up conceiving Sephiroth. Something she would later regret in her life.

For all those who think Jenova is Sephiroth's mother. Sephiroth is the biological son of Professor Hojo and Lucrecia. He only believes Jenova is his mother because that is what he was told so by Hojo and that his mother was dead. He never knew who his true parents were. Before he was born Lucrecia was romantically involved with Vincent Valentine but when he found out and tried to console her about his father’s death and the part she had to play in it. She distanced herself from him and became romantically involved with Hojo. Who she later married and who impregnated her, while Sephiroth was still in her womb, Hojo injected him with Jenova cells. Vincent who was livid about Lucrecia being used as an experiment tried to stop it from happening but was shot and was experimented on by Hojo. Lucrecia found out and tried to save him, to save him, she merged his body with Chaos but he was unable to control it. Lucrecia implanted the Protomateria into his chest but when she bore Sephiroth, she wasn't even allowed to hold him as he was taken away from her. Devastated, she tried to commit suicide but was unable to because of the Jenova cells inside of her. This proves that she is Sephiroth's mother not Jenova and that she regretted what she did.

Miss Sakura Actually this proves that Sephiroth *IS* connected to Jenova. Hojo is his father, Lucrecia his mother, and Jenova, the 3rd party. Genetically speaking, Sephiroth is 1/3 Jenova perhaps even more-so. Jenova's cells take over a host, so Sephiroth could be roughly 2/3rds Jenova and 1/2 of a 3rd Lucrecia and 1/2 of a 3rd Hojo. Yes Lucrecia is the biological mother of Sephiroth. Jenova is most likely what makes up the most of his being, and Jenova is an Alien cell and not a cetra, it has no gender, so no Jenova is not his "Mother" just a large 3rd party inside him.
