Drove out to watch the waves at Shore Acres last Thursday. Saw your video this morning. Hey, that's me there in the crowd! Everyone had lots of fun. Glad the wind carried most of the spray back out. That's not typical. Usually get soaked!!! THANK YOU for posting so many great trips throughout Oregon. They are all terrific reference material.

About a year ago, I was standing videoing the waves crashing on the point (north of the shelter) when Steven Michael, who was next to me, yelled, "don't look back, don't look back."Spray from a wave that had crashed at the south end of the viewing area drenched us. Yes, the south end. It was unbelievable! SO, where are you in this vid?

Many years ago, my sisters and I were with our uncle and our dad, fishing out of Gold Beach. We were just outside the Rogue River bar when a train of these big waves arrived from a distant storm. My sisters and I were not concerned, since the fishing was good that day and we had several ling cod. Dad and our uncle took notice when we exclaimed about a wave cutting off the view of the bridge and the mountains while we were in the trough. They moved close to a tug that was there with a barge, intending to transfer the tow to a smaller tug to take into the harbor. A conversation with the Master of the tug ended up with the Gold Beach Coast Guard lifeboat coming out to take my sisters and I off the boat for the trip back into the river mouth. The waves were breaking across the entrance. We didn't get to see anything because they put us in the forward locker with a stack of lifejackets, but Dad told us that they stayed on the back of the wave and matched speed with it. Another, smaller boat, was behind them and about 12 feet above them behind the shore break of the next wave. Dad said that he thought the Coast Guard should have left us kids on the boat and put him and our uncle in the lifejacket locker because both of them had back problems and Dad had heart problems.

Great footage of the beautiful surf. One small correction though: the storms that generated this historic swell did not batter CA. beautiful video, very well capture. This air bursts of white wash reminds me very similar thing in Nazare. Also shooting around 20m high in the air or even higher. Just be careful while u are at those view points, pay attention if you are not too close to the edge because sometimes theres that one time when white wash will land on them and believe me it may not seem like it but its VERY heavy. Could whipe you off. Definitly smack on the ground. Its what happened to me in Nazare.

There is a website called surf-forecast.com. Plug in Oregon South and Bastendorff Beach. When forecasted wave heights are 18' or better it's is likely a "show" will happen.
